The original source is a fountain located in the public garden of Udine, Italy (see photo on the left). I used a piece of black paper to obtain oblique illumination on some images. I processed them with Helicon Focus or ACDSee software. A maple leaf was boiled for several hours to soften the tissue. The leaf was placed on a flat surface and the soft tissue was carefully removed with a soft brush to expose the leafveins. This procedure does not work with all types of leaves and experimenting is necessary. Remaining chlorophyll was removed from the veins with alcohol and the leaf was re-hydrated with water to compensate the shrinking. The veins were then scanned with a flatbed scanner at high resolution.
