Dear Participants, Directors and Parents,
Welcome to the 2008 American
Dance/Drill Team® National/International Competition held at the University
of North Texas here in Denton, Texas. We
are proud to present this great event at our
alma mater and offer a great venue for the
teams participating here this weekend.
This year marks the 50th year of
operation for American Dance/Drill Team. I
am proud to have been a part of over 40 years
of that history beginning as a student in the
60's, a director in the 70's and an executive,
then owner in the 80's to present time. We honor Gussie Nell Davis and Dr. Irving Dreibrodt, our founders.
A special welcome goes to the Australia Drill/Dance Team from Adelaide, directed by Jean Richards. I
hope that each and every one of you will take the time to meet and greet them and show them a warm Texas welcome.
A special thanks goes to our corporate sponsors including, Curtain Call Costumes, Biogime International,
Tote Unlimited, Doughmakers Inc., Happy Feet Boots and ATS Tours and Travel. Directors will have the
chance to visit the Director's Hospitality Room on the West concourse to thank these fine companies for their
support of the dance/drill team industry.
This year we are so pleased to have a fabulous opening of our awards ceremony with the Parade of Nations
and each country's national anthem. With over 130 teams in attendance, this is the largest event of it's kind in the
country! We also welcome the Dallas Mavericks Dancers that will be our featured performers at the awards ceremony. Meet and speak to the many college dance teams that are competing here today. They will have recruiting
tables on the concourse to offer information about their programs.
We hope that you will find this contest a positive experience for everyone. We will have over 75 experienced staff members that will be working tirelessly behind the scenes to make the event go smoothly. Each and
every one of us considers it such a privilege to work with young people like you, and thank God each day for the
joy we find in our work.

Brief Awards Explanation.....
TEAM AND OFFICERS: The National Council of Drill
Team Camps voted in 2003 to award Sweepstakes, Divisional trophies and Best Overalls at Regional contests only
and not at Nationals in order to offer more rankings in each
division and category to competing teams.
GUSSIE NELL DAVIS AWARD: Those teams entering
in at least three team events and receiving 90's or above
from every judge.

INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONS
Teams entered in American Nationals can pay an additional fee to have all of their scores count in the Intenational
division along with our friends overseas. The top scores in each category will be considered International Champions and the highest accumulative scores in their combined team events will be ranked as overall International
Champions and runners up. Each team entered in International will be ranked and receive an award.
CURTAIN CALL NATIONAL ACADEMIC CHAMPIONS: Each team entered in team events could submit to
our office a verified list of team members and their current Grade Point Average. The highest GPA in Elementary,
Junior and High School will be awarded the Curtain Call Academic National Champions.
SOLOS: The solo finalists will be announced prior to the end of the contest in the coliseum and will appear at the
awards ceremony in their solo costume to accept their awards. The solo winners will perform their winning solo
routines.
BIOGIME SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD: Each team will cast their ballot (find in director's packet) near the end
of the day for the team they feel deserves to be named to the Biogime Sportsmanship Award.
OUTSTANDING DIRECTOR: Each team will cast their ballot for the Curtain Call Outstanding Director of the
contest sponsored by the Curtain Call Costumes.
OUTSTANDING TEAM: Each team will cast their ballot for the Outstanding Team of the contest, sponsored by
ATS Tours and Travel, the official travel agency for all American Dance/Drill Team® Events.
HAPPY FEET NATIONAL MISS HIGH KICK: We are proud that Happy Feet Boots will be sponsoring the
National Miss High Kick awards at our contest.
