Music Notes
At the end of this month we will begin to prepare for our second
Southern Gospel Singing Banquet. You may remember that the
first banquet saw the creation of an ensemble composed of the church
staff and their wives, which is sure to make another appearance. On
July 28 we will begin to put together groups of singers for the
September 22nd event. Include yourself in the celebration by com-
ing at 5:00 for the first get together!

Prayer Ministry
In the book Under his Wings we find the following excerpt:”According to Everet E.
Storms there are 7959 promises in Scripture made by God. If we use one promise each day
it will take us twenty-two years to use each of the promises once. Caleb lived forty years
on one promise. How many years can we live on 7959 promises?” The problem in numbering
promises is, what do you do about a promise that contains several parts? Do they count as
one promise or several? Commentators on the Bible have tried to count them but only prove
they do not agree.
It really doesn't matter how many there are. What matters is that God has shown
that He keeps them all. We see in 2 Peter 1:4 “Through these he has given us his very
great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine
nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”
Prayer is the key to opening these promises. Have you learned how to make the Bible
your prayer book? This should give you new motivation for Bible study; to search the Scriptures...meditate...mark its many promises. There are thousands of promises; a promise for
every need, burden, problem, situation. The last promise in the Bible is Revelation 22:20,
"He who testifies to these things says, 'Surely I am coming quickly.' Amen. Even so,
come, Lord Jesus."

It’s Still “Old Glory” for Me
“It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to
obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits and to humbly implore His protection, aid
and favor.”—George Washington. “Unless the great God who helped George Washington
shall be with me and help me, I must fail…Let us all pray that the God of our fathers may
not forsake us now.”—Abraham Lincoln. These two men from very different backgrounds shared a
common trust in God. Their faith in God is part of the rich heritage of our country.
As we think of these men and what they did for our country, let us also consider the great
symbol of our freedom—the FLAG. Our flag has long been a symbol of free men and a free nation;
one nation under God. Let us see if we can learn a deeper truth from the colors of our flag. WHITE
is the color of purity and spotlessness. When the Bible talks about making us “whiter than snow,” it
does not talk about washing the dirt off our hands and faces, or changing our skin color; it talks
about making us clean and pure on the inside. There is only one person who can do this. The Bible
says, “If the Son shall therefore make you free, you are free indeed!!!” RED in our flag reminds us of
the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. At Calvary Jesus endured the punishment for our sin. In
death He won the victory over death and sin and rose victoriously from the grave. Through Jesus we
are free from the power of Satan!!! BLUE reminds of Heaven. Heaven is God’s home and the home of
Jesus and all the angels, it is the only place where a person is really free from sin!!! The STARS remind us of those who have the Lord Jesus Christ living in their hearts!!! Daniel 12:3 reminds us that
we will shine as the start forever and forever. The story of the flag reminds us of the freedom each
believer enjoys in Jesus.
White—Purity
Red—Blood of Jesus
Blue—Heaven
Stars—Forgiven Believer

Corner
This Independence Day, as we thank God, our forefathers and our military for the
freedom we enjoy, let’s also remember the freedom we have in Jesus Christ. He died on the cross
to purchase our salvation and to forever break the bonds of sin over mankind. As Christians in the
United States of America, we have much to be thankful for when it comes to freedom, both politically and spiritually speaking.
It’s been a while since I included a quiz in the Pastor’s Corner, so enjoy these freedomcentered questions!
