May 2015 Newsletter - Aransas Pass Chamber of Commerce
The Aransas Pass Chamber of Commerce proudly presents the May Business of the Month Award to Coldwell
Banker Myers-Gallagher! COLDWELL BANKER MYERS-GALLAGHER and ARANSAS PROPERTY MANAGEMENT
have been co-owned and operated by Joe Myers, Raymond Gallagher and his wife, Shirley Gallagher since
1997. Joe Myers is the designated Broker for the Coldwell Banker Myers-Gallagher and Shirley Gallagher
manages the office. Raymond Gallagher is the designated Broker for Aransas Property Management and Lisa
Barker manages that office.
The three owners have always felt that Aransas Pass is the jewel of the Coastal Bend and the perfect place to
buy real estate. You can still find some of the least expensive waterfront property in the nation, right here on
the South Texas Coast. With plenty of fishing, boating, birding and golfing for the outdoorsman/woman,
Aransas Pass is one of the best places to live especially when you consider the cost of living and affordability.
Therefore, this very successful company was formed and has since expanded to the Naylor Building, which
was purchased in 2004. The office operates with 12 Broker/Agents and will expand to 14 by the end of the
month. They have enough office space to expand as the market grows with the new companies that are
moving into the area along with the much anticipated development of Harbor Towne. We appreciate the
support you have given the Chamber and the Community. Thank you!

WORKFORCE LABOR and EMPLOYMENT 2015 BRIEFING
Sponsored by the Aransas Pass Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Ted Phlegar, Senior Counsel
for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Workforce Freedom Initiative gave an overview of
labor and employment regulations and legislation issues impacting the workplace focusing
on the anti-employer agenda being pushed by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB)
Phlegar spoke to the NLRB’s ambush election rule which went in effect on April 14,
2015 and said, “It reduces the ability of workers to get balanced information about unions,
and requires employers to give union organizers personal information about workers, such
as home addresses, home phone numbers, and private e-mail accounts. Employers use of
social media, like Facebook or Twitter, is a hot topic for the NLRB, which has stuck down
many sensible employer policies related to using social media to discuss the work place.
Even policies simply encouraging workers to be respectful have been rules overbroad and
unlawful.”
The Workforce Freedom Initiative is a grassroots, education and advocacy campaign to
preserve the workplace democracy, protect employer free speech rights, employee freedom of choice and block the anticompetitive agenda advocated by many labor unions.
For the first time in the Aransas Pass Chamber of Commerce history the “Community Goodwill” award was presented to a very deserving individual. This is an outstanding award, the type of recognition that will only be given
when an individual displays remarkable service and dedication to the City of Aransas Pass, the Chamber of Commerce, and the entire community.
The Community Goodwill Award was presented to Mr. Rudy Abrego by the Aransas Pass Chamber of Commerce
and was sponsored by Sherwin Alumina Company.
Rudy, has been a resident of Aransas Pass for 42 years since moving from Corpus Christi and has been an employee with AEP for over 44 years. In the past, he has served on the Advisory Committee to the Mayor, a group that
was tasked with working to improve, enhance and beautify city streets and parks of Aransas Pass. As a dedicated
Board Member of Aransas Pass ISD, he is a proud supporter of our “Panther” students.
He has served a 5 year term and is currently serving a 3 year term with the Aransas Pass Chamber of Commerce.
When not serving on the Chamber Board, he volunteers for the Chamber by working many of the various events.
He served as President of Aransas Pass Little League ten years and currently serves on Aransas Pass Tri County
Christian Service Center Board.
Rudy demonstrates his passion for Aransas Pass daily with his selfless acts of giving back to the community he
lives in. His hard work and dedication to help with countless projects within the community have resulted in
many positive outcomes, projects and accomplishments.
His passion, support and efforts do not go unnoticed. In fact, Sherwin Alumna Company stepped up and partnered with and sponsored this historical award. They also expressed their appreciation for all this individual does
by sponsoring a custom bench in front of the Chamber building in his honor. Rudy is pictured here, seated on the
bench. This award was originally presented at the Chamber’s Installation of Officers Banquet in January of this
year.
