PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Firstly congratulations to our Year 12
Students, whom as I write this are putting
the finishing touches to those final
assessment pieces and sitting their final
exams. Congratulations for making the
decision to complete your formal secondary
schooling, a decision that is backed up by
research that leads to better outcomes in
terms of job prospects and well-being. The
final weeks for all our students are drawing
close and I know that all of our students
will want to achieve their very best. Please
keep in mind in this busy and demanding
time of the year to ensure that you balance
study commitments with rest, a healthy diet
and exercise. In addition, to the families and
friends that our students use for support
them and of course, our staff are always
here to provide support and guidance
through this time.
I was impressed by the calibre of our music
students performing at the prestigious Elder
Hall. Once again they demonstrated our
values of excellence, learning and respect.
Our packed schedule of performances for
our Arts students, whether they be Dance,
Drama or Music are wonderful opportunities
for them to showcase their learning. It is also
pleaseing to see our Junior Years Students
enjoying their violin instrumental lessons
and engaging with extensive performing
arts programs.
We have much to be proud of at Charles
Campbell College and this term we have
had many opportunities to celebrate
our achievements. I know that many of
these achievements are published in this
newsletter and on our Facebook page, I We launched our Specialist Sports Program

members and of course our community
partners Norwood FC, Newton Jags,
Campbelltown Council and our sponsors.
We celebrated our progress so far, and
look forward to continued success in this
area.
Two of our students are finalists in the
ANZAC Day competition to Gallipoli. The
students had to prepare a written application
and have been interviewed last week. We
are very proud of their achievement thus far
and keenly await the final outcome of the
competition.
Finally, as you know we were successful
in meeting the rigorous standards of the
Council of International Schools and
received International Accreditation last
term. In the very comprehensive report
we received shortly afterwards ,the visiting
team acknowledged, “the professionalism
and dedication of staff in their continued
commitment to continually improving the
outcomes of the students”. To celebrate
the wonderful work of our staff we held
morning teas for SSO Week and World
Teachers Day.
I look forward to the official celebration
ceremonies for our Junior, Middle and
Senior students later in this term. In the
meantime keep informed by following
our Facebook page and downloading our

The Big Fairy Elephant and the
Fairy Ballerina
Once upon a time a ladybug and a witch
were flying in the sky. They landed in
a haunted house. They saw a ghost
skeleton and got scared and they went
away and never came back. The ghost
skeleton said “You will never return”.
One day a big Fairy Elephant and a
Fairy Ballerina went swimming at the
Fairy beach. All of a sudden the big Fairy
Elephant and the Fairy Ballerina were
sinking in the water because the water
was deep. Then the Fairy Ballerina and
the big Fairy Elephant remembered they
had wings. Then they flew up and landed
on the sand.

Last term we went on a long bus ride in
the Adelaide Hills to the Birdwood Motor
Museum. While we were there we saw
many old cars that looked very different
from the ones we see today. We also
participated in a Lego Workshop where
we had to follow instructions to build our
own car out of Lego.

Plan
Copies of the Department of Education and
Child Development Strategic Plan arrived
in school this term. The Department for
Education and Child Development’s new
Strategic Plan 2014 – 2017 outlines how
our public education system will become
even stronger over the next four years.
The plan is a commitment to children,
families and the community to improve
learning achievement, health, wellbeing,
child safety, community engagement, and
access to services.
Pit stops played a major part in the
outcome of the race, Hazelwood and his
pit crew elected to change the tyres at the
10th lap mark, helping Hazelwood gain a
few positions and having to learn a whole
new dynamic of taking a pit stop during a
longer race but this in turn left Hazelwood
struggling with tyres by the end of the
race. “I just drove the wheels off the car,”
Hazelwood stated.
With the Five cars behind him having had
fresh tyres with 10 laps to go, Hazelwood
knew he had to hold on and finish.
Hazelwood mentioned that this race felt
like a win to him.

Hazelwood and his family have sacrificed

2013, Ex Charles Campbell College

age has defied all the odds and finished
impressively in fifth place at Bathurst

The fifth place finish has now put
Hazelwood into eighth position on the

making him the best placed rookie and
the highest ranked pilot without an endure

The extremely talented South Australian

Charles Campbell
leading the pack
Charles Campbell College is the first
R-12 school in South Australia to receive
international accreditation from the
Council of International Schools.
The Paradise school – which formed in
2012 through an amalgamation of Charles
Campbell Secondary and Campbelltown
Primary Schools – received the recognition
last month after a two year evaluation.
As part of the process, two inspectors from
the not-for-profit Council of International
Schools visited the college in late August
from the Australian headquarters in
Victoria.
Principal Sue George-Duif said the
accreditation would help make the College
even more attractive to families relocating
to Adelaide from interstate and overseas.
“To reach those international standards is
a great achievement and we now know
we deliver world class education and it
definitely will attract more international
students to the school,” Ms George-Duif
said.
The school, which has about 1090
students is the largest public school in the
Campbelltown Council district and has
become one of the 12 schools in the state
to receive the international accreditation.
