Putting it all together
Printing continues to be one of the
most competitive of all industries. The
companies that thrive and prosper are
the ones implementing new technologies,
new ways of doing business and new
offerings to satisfy the changing needs
of their customers. Printers tell us that
the number one customer demand in the
marketplace today is affordable short
run color.
The Kodak family of next generation
DirectPress DI digital offset presses
is the ideal solution to fill this need. The
DirectPress direct imaging technology
combines the high quality of offset
printing with the automation and speed
of digital printing to provide you with
beautiful color that's profitable for both
short and medium runs!

The Kodak DirectPress system
enables short run color capability
Digital offset is changing the world
of commercial printing
• Very efficient workflow from file to
printed sheet
• From digital files, all four plates are
simultaneously imaged and registered
on press
• Fast makereadies are enabled
• Wasted press sheets are reduced
• Superior print quality through
waterless printing
• A better printed product
• Direct imaging technology has evolved
over the last decade and has grown
to over 2,000 presses worldwide
• Studies show that gross profit numbers
for direct imaging presses are nearly
twice those of conventional offset
• Growth in DI digital offset press
applications is substantially higher
than that of traditional offset
The Kodak DirectPress DI digital offset program includes
four essential elements of success:
• industry's most advanced digital offset press
• color management
• efficient workflow
• technical support and service
workflow enabler with advanced digital
prepress capabilities. Based on the
Adobe portable document format (PDF),
Kodak Prinergy EVO software addresses
all of your digital needs in one solution.

Advanced Technology
Enhances Productivity
The Kodak DirectPress DI digital
offset press allows you to get more jobs
on and off the press every day than you
ever thought possible. State of the art
technologies take you smoothly and
rapidly from digital file to printed sheet.
Your Kodak DirectPress system connects
seamlessly to your prepress network,
resulting in superior quality offset with
incredible consistency.
Efficient workflow
• From both Apple Macintosh and PC
systems on your network, files are sent
directly to the Kodak DirectPress raster
image processor (RIP).
• Using proven Kodak DirectPress
technology, the RIP generates bitmap
images ready for on-press platemaking.
4
• Operators can preview data before
print production or can send the file
to an optional inkjet or other digital
proofing device.
On press direct imaging platemaking
• 2 ProFire Excel laser imaging modules
image the thermal plate media by
removing the top ink repelling layer
and exposing the ink receptive layer.
• Depending on the Kodak DirectPress
DI model you select, the entire plate
imaging process is completed in less
than 4.5 minutes at a full 2540 dpi.
• First generation plate imaging
integrated with short run optimized
press mechanics provide you and
your customer with outstanding
output quality.
Benchmark output quality
• The newest members of the
DirectPress DI digital offset family
leverage the very latest in plate and
plate writing technology.
• Next generation laser imaging
produces a 16-micron spot size,
enabling offset printing with ultra high
resolution, 300 line stochastic, AM
and hybrid screening.
• The efficiencies of on-press, digitally
enabled platemaking with best in
class image rendering mean that
DirectPress DI systems are setting
new benchmarks for outstanding
print quality and productivity.
More Jobs Per Day
Enhance Your Bottom Line
Quicker makeready and a high level of
automation translate into more jobs per day.
The Kodak DirectPress DI system is packed
with features that allow you to optimize your
ability to produce more runs in less time.
Profit building features
• New plates are automatically fed and
mounted onto the plate cylinder. Used
plates are automatically transferred
to a take-up cassette.
• Each ProFire Excel module images
two printing plates in register.
• Highly efficient, automatic plate
cleaning provides print ready plates
right after imaging.
• Automatic ink key preset from ripped
file information means quick set up
and reduced waste.
• Roller temperature is automatically
maintained, ensuring consistent quality
throughout the day.
• Infrared dryer allows reduced drying
times and faster job turnaround.
• Blanket, ink roller and impression
cylinder cleanup is automatic.

Unique compact design
The compact cylinder design of the Kodak DirectPress
DI digital offset press gives it a footprint similar to a
2-color conventional press.
5´ 6˝
(1665 mm)
6´ 3˝
(1915 mm)
The design features a triple-size impression cylinder
and two double-size blanket cylinders. The twin plate
cylinder is a breakthrough design that permits the use
of only two imaging heads.

The advanced Kodak DirectPress DI system process
There are no gripper changes or transfers
during printing. The paper is held on the
impression cylinder for two rotations to
complete 4-color printing. The results
are exceptional color to color registration
and minimal paper deflection.
A double diameter chain delivery eliminates
the need for anti-scuffing equipment. Ink
rollers engage alternately during the two
rotations of the paper. This doubles the ink
recovery time permitting the printing of
heavy solids and tints. These all add up to
no-compromise, offset quality output.
