I am very excited to serve as HBASE President while
we join our Care Foundation to undertake an incredible
project such as the spec home fundraiser. The sale of the
new 3,300 sq. ft. home in Prairie Vista II in southern Sioux
Falls will benefit the Foundation which ultimately helps our
industry remain strong and grow for future years.
The construction of this home will be done with the help of hundreds of
HBASE members. Has your company signed up to help yet? Perhaps it’s
just a day or two that you’re able to donate labor.
I’d like to personally thank everyone who’s stepped up to donate materials, labor and money. We appreciate your willingness to help out. It
shows a lot about our association and our industry as a whole. When we
work together as a team, a lot can be accomplished.

I’m so passionate about this project because of where the proceeds
will go. One of the main areas our Care Foundation focuses on is giving
scholarships to students interested in entering our industry after they graduate. This alone is crucially important to the success of our industry.
I would encourage your company to consider taking part in this incredible project. Construction has begun and we’re planning to have it finished
by the end of the year. Stop over and check it out sometime. The home is
located just east and south of 69th & Western.

for Repair Affair, you are especially invited
to attend this commemorative event. We’ll
take you down memory lane as we show
photos from the past 20 years and reminisce with a few fun stories.
Those volunteering at this year’s
event (Tuesday, June 11) are asked to
attend the brief meeting at 5:30pm. At that
time we’ll pass out volunteer t-shirts and
you’ll be able to meet your team leaders
and those serving on your team.
REMINDER… This meeting will replace the breakfast at the HBASE on
the morning of Repair Affair Day.

All repairs are free to the homeowner
as materials are donated by Sioux Falls
Community Development and the Sioux
Empire Home Builders Care Foundation.
Income qualified homeowners are
preapproved for the repairs by the Repair
Affair Coordinating Committee.

Care Foundation. The 5 bedroom, 3 bathroom
home will be priced roughly between $400,000 and
$500,000 depending on what amenities and added
features will be in the home.
The construction project is the largest fundraiser organized by the Care Foundation. Over the next few months, the Care Foundation will assist HBASE in
securing donations for the project along with recruiting qualified volunteers to
help with the construction of the home.
The lot for the future home is located at 1317 W. Wicklow Court in Prairie
Vista II and has been secured with the help of Ronning Companies. The home’s
layout was designed by students in the Architectural Design program at Southeast Technical Institute.

The 2012 International Residential Code
(IRC) and amendments have been adopted as the
residential building code by the City of Sioux Falls
for regulating the construction of single family
houses, two-family houses and buildings consisting of three or more townhouse units including
structural components, fireplaces and chimneys,
thermal insulation, mechanical systems, fuel gas
systems, plumbing systems and electrical systems.
The minimum building standards in the 2012
edition of the International Residential Code and
amendments thereto shall be applied to any building permit issued after April 30, 2013.
The HBASE is offering this class to inform
home builders of notable changes from the 2009
IRC to the 2012 IRC.
Become knowledgeable about the 2012 IRC
code provisions by attending this class presented
by Ron Bell, SF Chief Building Official.
This class qualifies for
continuing education credit to
satisfy the Sioux Falls Residential
Contractor Licensing requirements.

award program that honors individuals who have
made significant and lasting local, state and/or
national contributions to the housing industry.
The Selection Committee is chaired by the immediate Past Recipient and 5 other past recipients or appointments made by the Chair.
Nominations to the Housing Hall of Fame
may be submitted by any HBASE member.
Please call the HBASE office to make your
nomination. Upon induction or retirement, Hall of
Fame inductees will become Honorary members
of the HBASE. Candidate criteria includes:
BUILDER/DEVELOPER — Owner or major
principal of a residential building company
GOVERNMENT — Elected officials or others in
housing related public service
