Wood’s Words
The Lizard Creek Blues Society is continuing its tradition of hosting outstanding
blues performances. The Lionel Young band was exceptional, Saturday March
10. This musically gifted band really presented the blues with a touch of style that
included some jazz and R&B mixed in for good measure. The depth of Lionel
Young’s performance was outstanding. A great opening act, blues harp player
Ronnie Shellist, offered some wonderful traditional blues that was well appreciated. Hope you made it. Lizard Creek always delivers great music.
Now we look to the summer. We are working feverishly on the details of our annual Blues Under the Trees. Saturday, July 28 is our date and we can announce
the performers for another wonderful festival.
12 NOON, GATES OPEN.
1 PM, Kevin Burt and the Instigators
3 PM, Bob Pace Band
5 PM, Rosie Ledet and the Zydeco Playboys
7 PM, Steady Rollin’ Bob Margolin
9 PM, Smoking Joe Kubek, featuring Bnois King
This is a great lineup, friends, and you will enjoy
the day! All calendars should be synched so your electronic devices will all beep,
chirp, ring, and wail the Blues Under the Trees festival is here! Or use a post-it
note and blue crayon. Just get it on the calendar!
Blues Under the Trees is going to be an exciting event and we look forward to
your attendance, volunteer efforts, and patronage of our vendors. The offer to
come prepare, set up, and clean up is open to all who want to help. This show
does not get done without elbow grease and sweat. Good work makes for a fun
day for all. Please, join us! More details will be forthcoming in future newsletters.
For now, get out your CD’s and practice partying.

A Concert to Remember
The Alzheimer’s Association Greater Iowa Chapter proudly presents
A Concert to Remember- June 24th, 2012 at the Starlite Best Western
Inn and Suites. The concert is a fund raiser for the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of local Ski Band member Dean Morris, and in
honor of his wife Shirley Morris who is currently battling
Alzheimer’s disease.
For one day only, June 24th, 2012, 6 incredibly talented bands will
take the stage at the Starlite Best Western starting at 2pm , united in
their mission to help the Alzheimer’s Association find a cure to stop
this disease from taking yet another friend or family member. The
bands that will be rocking the stage are: Planet Rock, Beaver Creek,
Cody McClintock, GearDown, Mudd Jugg, and Brandon Scott Sellner
and the Austin Stranglers. This all age show will feature a little bit of
something for everyone, from classic rock, to heavy metal, and blues.
There will also be a silent auction and an art exhibit featuring art
work of local Alzheimer’s patients, and some incredible information
about how the last parts of the brain to go are the parts which understand and relate to art and music, and how music and art can be used
to help those with the disease. There will also be information on how
people can do more to help in the fight against this currently incurable and unstoppable disease and where those affected can turn for
help.
Join us for a night of great music and incredible talent, all for a very
good cause. You won’t want to miss out on this concert. Line ups like
this don’t come around twice.
Tickets for A Concert To Remember are $25.00 in advance and $30
at the door. They can be purchased at the Alzheimer’s Association
Greater Iowa Chapter in the Wells Fargo building downtown Fort
Dodge, 822 Central Ave suite 310 or at Hy-Vee Food Store in Fort
