Director’s
Message
Welcome to the new look of the Joliet Park District Program Catalog! We’ve
made a number of changes to make the catalog more user-friendly and easier
to navigate. We’ve gone to full color, introduced icons to make facilities easier
to identify, and changed the layout to make program searches easier. If you’re
interested in online registration, just scan the bar code on the cover of the catalog
and you will be redirected to our website.
Summer is the most exciting time of year at the Joliet Park District. With three
championship golf courses, Splash Station Waterpark, summer camps, over 70
community parks, the Sundowner 5k, and the Taste of Joliet, we have something
for everyone. After the winter we just endured, I hope you will make plans to get
outside and enjoy one of our great facilities. You deserve it!
All this activity means a lot of hard work. Did you know the Joliet Park District
employs over 1000 people throughout the year? At the height of the summer we
have 800+ employees who make the programs and facilities run. I’d like to thank
everyone who pitches in to make it happen.
Sincerely,
Dominic Egizio
Chief Executive Officer

Residency Information
Who is a Joliet Park District Resident?
Did you know that not all City of Joliet residents are Joliet Park District residents?
Based on formal action by the Joliet Park District Board of Commissioners, a Joliet Park District resident is described as a person whose legal domicile is within
the boundaries of the District. Residency is the principal place of habitation of
the individual occupying the home, apartment, condominium or estate. It shall
be the principal yearly residence for the family residing at the location. The resident must be able to produce a valid driver’s license and a current property tax
bill or utility bill verifying residency at that location. Individuals who own rental
property that is occupied by others may not be considered Joliet Park District
residents. However, individuals who reside in rental property within the Park
District boundaries are considered Park District residents.
Who Needs a Resident Discount Card?
Resident Discount Cards are issued to Joliet Park District residents only and are
mandatory for all residents six years and older who wish to take advantage of
lower, resident rates for programs and services. If a parent is registering a child
under the age of six for a program, the parent must have a valid Resident Discount Card.
Where Do I Obtain a Resident Discount Card?
Obtain your Resident Discount Card at the Presence Inwood Athletic Club,
3000 W. Jefferson St., the Multi-Purpose Center, 3000 W. Jefferson St., Hartman
Recreation Center, 511 N. Collins St. or Splash Station Waterpark, 2780 U.S. Rte.
6. When obtaining/renewing your Resident Discount Card and/or the cards for
your family members, bring your Resident Discount Card (if applicable), (1) form
of picture I.D. (in addition to your RDC), and a current property tax or utility bill
showing your name and address.

Joliet Park District Helps Community Lose A Ton
In early Januar y, the Joliet Park District
issued a challenge to the community
- can we come together over the
next six weeks and lose a ton (2000
pounds) of weight? The response
exceeded our expectations, and the
answer was a resounding yes.
The weight loss initiative kicked off
Januar y 21 – 22, with 738 people
weighing in. As part of the six week
program, participants were eligible
to attend free seminars on topics
like nutrition and goal setting. They
also received motivation and exercise
tips via email. Additionally, the top
five males and top five females were
eligible to win a brand new VW Beetle,
compliments of D’Arcy Volkswagen.
“A major part of our mission statement
is a commitment to healthy lifestyles,”
said Joliet Park District Chief Executive
Officer Dominic Egizio. “ This initiative
not only helped the community
lose weight, but many participants
improved their overall health as well.
We heard a number of success stories
ranging from lower cholesterol to
improved running times.”
On March 3 – 4 staff conducted final
weigh outs. 320 participants weighed
out, with a total of 2312.4 pounds
lost (an average of 7.2 pounds per
person). The community lost more
than a ton in six weeks, and staff is
already planning another challenge for
2015.
Congratulations to the top 10 men and women. Back row left to right, Laura Esquivel,
Michael Reilly Sr., Britt Kolb, Larry Collins, Paul Grachan, Mike Pitsenberger, Scott Slick.
Kneeling left to right, Patricia Edwards, Natalie O’Connell, and Julie Lechelt.

Did you know??????
The Joliet Park District offers you many ways
to advertise and market your business while
you are giving back to the Joliet community.
We work with local and national companies
to create unique partnerships that benefit
both the business and the community.
From signage on the scoreboard in the
10,000 seat ATI Field at Joliet Memorial
Stadium, to tee signs at our three golf
courses to dasher boards in the Inwood Ice
Arena to event partnerships, we’ve got it all!
We host three running events each year
– the Rockdale Ramblin’ Run 10k, the
Sundowner 5k and the Red Eye 8k. If you
are a health or fitness oriented business,
this is a perfect match for you! Our races
give you the chance to directly market and
advertise to your target audience. Our
runners pay to run, they have disposable
income, and our sponsors tell us that the
people who run our races patronize their
businesses.
The Taste of Joliet is a three day music and
food festival that welcomed over 55,000
attendees last year. We offer a multitude of
partnership opportunities that allow you to
advertise your business, meet face-to-face
with potential customers or entertain your
guests in a VIP tent that offers direct access
to the Reserved Section directly in front
of the stage. Taste of Joliet sponsors are
featured on signage throughout the venue,
on our marketing materials and on the
t-shirts worn by all of our festival volunteers.
It’s a great way to reach a large amount of
people in a short amount of time!
Our youth programs and camps offer
sponsors a unique chance to market to
parents through programs and events,
summer camps and youth sports
sponsorships. We offer signage at
our sports facilities, on summer camp
t-shirts and backpacks as well as tabling
opportunities throughout the year.
Our staff will work with you to design a
custom package that creates a “win-win” for
you and the park district and benefits the
Joliet community. If you are interested in
sponsorship opportunities, please contact
Beth Ley today: [email protected] or
815-207-6303.

roast marshmallows around a cozy campfire while
we learn about bats, then go on a hike to find these
mosquito-eating machines. We’ll use bat detectors

Tumble Bees Early Childhood Movement
Enrolling your child in our Tumble Bees Early Childhood
Movement program is a wonderful way to expose participants to balance and movement activities Your child will
learn movement skills, coordination, and self-confidence
in a positive atmosphere. Our staff has years of experience
with children. Each week Tumble Bees will practice skills
and learn new progressions in creative formats that keep
learning fun. To assist in creating a positive instructional
environment, classes have a three-week policy in which, if
your child is not enrolled in the proper class, he or she will
be placed in the appropriate class. Children should enroll
in classes based on the age they will be when the session
starts.
The Joliet Park District has an observation area available for
the Gymnastics and Tumbling programs. Please be respectful to all classes in session when in the observation area.
Wear your Tumble
Bees t-shirt to class
each week! If interested, purchase can
be made at the MPC
front desk!
Tumble Bees Tumbling Attire
Appropriate attire includes leotards, shorts, sweats, tshirts, and non-skid socks or bare feet. Please do not wear
jeans, belts or jewelry.
Children’s Nursery
Only parent/guardian and participant are allowed in classes. Please utilize the children’s nursery for all other siblings.
A children’s nursery is available at the Presence Inwood
Athletic Club, located adjacent to the Multi-Purpose Center.
Rates are reasonable and the care is exceptional. Call 815741-7275, ext. 122 for details.
Joliet Park District Program Philosophy
Every participant can have fun learning developmentally
appropriate movement in a safe environment that promotes positive self-esteem.

A Gentle Reminder
Your promptness in picking
up your child after class is
greatly appreciated. A few
minutes without mom or
dad after everyone else
has left can be frightening
to small children. Thank
you for not parking in the
fire lanes.
Baby Bees
Bustling Bees
Tots will participate with parent assistance. Excellent
large motor skill development, balance, coordination
and a great environment to promote socialization.
Come join us and experience the ever-changing

Our Little Sprouts program is dedicated to bringing
children and nature together. We will offer the experiences typically found in child-centered learning centers;
however, what is special about Little Sprouts is that
these experiences will be focused through daily interaction with nature, animals and plant life. Research has
found that children who spend more time in nature
pay attention better, think more clearly, and are able to
cope more effectively with stress. The nature curriculum
is based on seasonal changes. Topics reflect current
events in the natural world and provide the basis for
daily outdoor discovery plus:
• Creative arts
• Natural science
exploration
• Large & small motor
skill development
• Construction play
• Math &
manipulative
activities
• Language experiences
Little Sprouts is more appropriate for children whose
families are looking for discovery-based learning rather
than traditional lessons that are scheduled and confined
by curriculum objectives. Natural themes and materials are incorporated throughout indoor and outdoor
activities.
Program deadlines are 1 week prior to start date unless otherwise noted.

Welcome to the Sunshine and
Rainbows Learning Center!
The Sunshine and Rainbows Learning Center is an extension
of early learners of the Joliet Park District. The preschool
program has been in existence for over 35 years. Today the
Learning Center has openings for students in 12 different classrooms that attend
either a 2-day, 3-day or 5-day program in the morning or afternoon in the
Multi-Purpose Building.
The Early Childhood Classroom
Preschool Birthday Parties
The Sunshine and Rainbows Learning Center follows the Illinois Early Childhood Standards and Benchmarks. We teach
children holistically and as individuals in a caring environment.
In the classroom many different opportunities for learning
are provided using center-based exploration, sensory tubs,
developmentally appropriate literacy and math lessons, props,
and manipulatives.
Have your child’s preschool class birthday party directly after
your child’s preschool day. We will extend the day to make it
convenient for you and your child’s classmates’ parents. Call
Karen Cooper at 815-741-7275, ext. 129 for information.
In addition each classroom has physical education and music
instruction. Our Learning Center uses the “Handwriting Without Tears” method for teaching pre-writing and printing skills.
Computer time is also available that helps reinforce colors,
shapes, patterns, and letter recognition through the use of the
mouse and keyboard.
Family Involvement & Community
Events
We also include the family in many events. We have music
presentations in Fall, Winter and February. Both the 3’s and 4’s,
according to the Early Learning Standards, are involved with
Kris Kringle, Science Fair, Family Picnic, Grandparents Dance,
Mother’s Day Tea, Family Dance, and Bicycle Rodeo. These are
just a few of the events held during the school year. We also
do community outreach programs to help teach caring, sharing and giving.
Flying Solo Learning Program
For the child who misses the September 1st birth date deadline
for entering Illinois Elementary schools, we offer the Flying
Solo Learning program that allows children, who turn 3 years
old after September 1st, and are ready to begin a preschool
program, to attend an extended program available during the
day. We also have available, Meeting the Challenge, an opportunity for children to attend an extended preschool program in
a mixed age group setting.
Summer Learning
The learning does not stop in May! We offer the following
enrichment learning opportunities for preschoolers through
3rd grade:
• Camp Starfish
• Fabulous Fridays
• Summer Puddle Jumpers
• Kinder Camp (PK-1)
• Camp Sendak (1st-3rd)
Currently enrolling for the 2014 summer session. Registration is open to
Joliet residents and non-residents. Questions may be directed to Karen
Cooper at 815-741-7275 ext. 129 or at [email protected].
Joliet Park District Recreation & Enrichment Program

Summer Puddle Jumpers
Whether you’re planning to enroll your child into
Sunshine & Rainbows Learning Center, or another
area preschool, these classes are necessary for
getting your child ready to take that jump towards
independence. Our curriculum includes valuable,
developmentally appropriate activities that enhance
the skills needed to start preschool. Children do not
have to be potty trained for Puddle Jumpers classes.
Parents do not stay with their children for our Puddle Jumpers Classes. Summer Puddle Jumpers class
focuses on getting children accustomed to being
away from parents in a warm, caring environment.
Our ultimate goal is to overcome the tears, complete an art creation and teach class participation
skills, but also focus on more preschool preparedness skills. As the child progresses, the child will
be encouraged to make choices between interest
areas, taking turns, listening, circle time, following
directions, sharing, and participating in clean-up
time. Your child will also work on fine motor skills as
they learn to use a glue stick, write, draw, and paint
using a variety of art materials. Your child will also
be visiting our sandbox, playground, flower gardens
and use our sensory tables. Please dress your child
in play clothes.

What is Skyhawks?
Skyhawks Track & Field Camp
Skyhawks provides a wide variety of fun, safe and positive programs that emphasize critical lessons in sports
and life, such as teamwork, respect and sportsmanship.
Our programs are designed to give each child a positive
introduction into sports while fostering a lifelong love
for an active, healthy lifestyle. Our patient and knowlegable staff use a variety of skill-building games and
activities to give each athlete a complete understanding and overview of the sport. Since 1979 Skyhawks
has taught over one million boys and girls life lessons
through sports.
Skyhawks Track & Field was developed to introduce young athletes to a sport rich in tradition
and history. These programs combine technical
development and fundamental techniques with
safety while keeping a major focus on fun! Using
special equipment, our staff teach the standard track
& field events: long distance, sprints, soft hurdles,
relays, shot put, discus, and standing long-jump.
Our exercises and drills prepare athletes for a future
in cross-country, track & field events, and distance
running while inspiring a love for running and being active. The fundamentals of body positioning,
stride, proper stretching, and cool-down techniques
are covered in this unique program. Participants
will put it all together for one fun-filled day at the
end-of-the-week track meet! All participants receive
a t-shirt and a merit award. The participant-to-coach
ratio is approximately 14:1. Participants should bring
appropriate clothing, two snacks, a water bottle,
running shoes, and sunscreen.
Skyhawks Basketball Camp
This fun, skill-intensive program is designed with the
beginning to intermediate player in mind. Using our
progressional curriculum, our basketball staff focus
on the whole player, teaching your child the skills
needed both on and off the court to be a better
athlete. Each day will start with a “skill of the day”
and progress into drills and games. After a week
of passing, shooting, dribbling, and rebounding,
your child will show you why this is one of our most
popular programs. Go to www.skyhawks.com for
more detailed information and sample schedules.
All participants receive a t-shirt, basketball, and
player evaluation. The participant-to-coach ratio is
approximately 10:1. Participants should bring appropriate clothing, two snacks, a water bottle, and,
gym shoes.
