A few reminders about parking for our student Mass:

Do not park at Young Eye Clinic, Steen's, or Dore' Accounting Firm. These
spots must be reserved for client and patient parking as they are open for
business. This is not an issue on the weekend as the businesses are closed.
Please be respectful of these parking areas.
In the front of St. Mary Magdalen, be sure to fill in all of the spots while
double parking to allow space for others. It is important that there are no
empty spaces.

The 2015-16 school year is off to a great start! The entire
staff has been very busy preparing for this school year.
We want it to be a year filled with memorable learning
experiences for all students.
Our Mission Statement reads as follows: VERMILION
CATHOLIC ACTIVELY ENGAGES STUDENTS IN THE
EDUCATIONAL PROCESS, WHICH IS ROOTED IN
LEARNING AND SERVING CHRIST IN THE CATHOLIC TRADITION. One of the best ways to find success
academically is to start the school year organized and plan
your week carefully. The opening tests are usually a review so they are an opportunity to start with a positive
grade. Also, completed homework are points that can be
useful in beginning up test grades.
Our teachers are very professional and will work with
your student in their search to find success. Please check
all teachers’ class policy sheets because some of the teachers offer tutoring if your student is having difficulty understanding the material. We will also begin peer tutor-
ing after Labor Day. If your student is struggling in a particular subject, please contact either myself or the teacher.
Renweb is a very valuable tool for both students and parents. You should be able to access class objectives, homework, tests, and grades. All of our teachers have email and
will answer any questions you may have. Our hope is that
every student starts off the school year successfully.
REMINDER: The Student/Parent Handbook contains
valuable information that can quickly answer many questions. It is printed so students and parents can refer to it
at any time. It is also on Renweb under Resource Documents. Please have your student review Uniform Requirements beginning on page 31!

After School Tutoring/Study Hall
Tutoring is available to all Vermilion Catholic students. Any student who needs tutoring will be excused
from all extra curricular activities to attend tutoring with no penalty. Anyone who needs tutoring must sign

Persons interested in attending field trips, substituting or volunteering for school activities including decorating for
Homecoming, Prom, etc. must attend Safe Environment Training. This is a mandate from the Bishop of the Diocese of
Lafayette. Parents and volunteers are to attend these training sessions annually. The Initial Training takes approximately 2 hours and the Continuing Ed takes approximately 1 hour. The Continuing Ed will be an on-going annual training and can also be done online at virtusonline.com.
I encourage you to update your certification using the online training each year as it can be linked to all related schools
and church parishes. All files of your training will be kept on location and forwarded to your church parish when requested. Thanks for your continued support and cooperation.

3. Click on “Begin the Registration Process”
4. Select Lafayette, LA (Diocese)
5. You will be prompted to create a user ID and a password. It is suggested that you use your full name (without spaces) or email address as they are more likely to be unique.
6. You will be prompted to supply your address, email and phone number.
7. Supply your primary location and any other location you wish. You may include any school or Church Parish in the
Lafayette Diocese.
8. Continue answering all required questions as prompted.
9. After the registration process has been completed, you may go to Virus Online or close the browser.
10. To log on to your account go to www.virtus.org and log in using your screen name and password.
11. You will be prompted to begin your training.

Activities:

On Friday August 21 a retreat was held at the St.
Theresa Family Center for our senior class. Guided
by Fr. Garret McIntire, Fr. Brian Harrington, Melisa
LaCour, and Jillian Hebert, students were invited to
participate in unity games, spiritual reflection, spiritual direction & the sacrament of Reconciliation.
Letters from parents & family were written to the
seniors offering support and direction for the upcoming year. We are looking forward to a unified,
spirit filled & productive year from our senior class.

A mass honoring our freshmen was held on Thursday August 27. As part of the celebration a bible was
presented individually to each student at the end of
mass. These bibles will be incorporated into the
freshmen theology curriculum as an additional text
book and can be used throughout their high school
career as a reference book. Fr. Brian Harrington welcomed the freshmen as new members to our Vermilion Catholic family with a special blessing.
Spiritual Message:
The theme for this year’s school year is “All In.” As a fac-
ulty we were presented with t-shirts that will be worn
throughout the year showing our support of Catholic
education and our mission at Vermilion Catholic. We
can take this theme, “All In” one step further by applying it to our spiritual lives. “All In” includes our prayer
life, our service to others and our responsibility to living
out God’s word every day. In an effort to put our responsibility into action we will be focusing on the needs of
the poor in our parish. Our primary avenue to carry out
this task will be our own Christian Service Center. We
encourage our students to share their blessings by contributing to the weekly school mass collections. Collections from our school masses as well as scheduled activities will be used to assist the poor and benefit local
charities. We ask for your support in teaching our youth
the need to be the hands and feet of Christ through service to others.

Legacy Night
At this years Legacy Night 63 students received their wings after completing summer workouts. Maisie Meaux Hargett, a member of the
1999 Girls Basketball State Champions, and Any Veazey from the class
of 1985, were our special guest speakers. The family of the late Michael Detraz, Jr., Class of 1992 donated a hydration station to the VC
football team. Senior, Andre’ Girouard receives his wings from his father Wayne Girouard from the class of 1992.

6th Annual Scholarship Dinner
This event is held at Magdalen Place
each year to raise funds for student tuition assistance. Our student council
members helped serve dinner to our guest and our
spirt squads provide entertainment. This years
guest speaker was Fr. Neal McNeil, a VC alumni
from the class of 1987. He spoke of the many
fond memories he holds of his time here at Vermilion Catholic.

The French Club held its first meeting of the year on September 1st. Club officers were elected. Bret Lee will serve

Fontenot as secretary, and Victoria Sterling as Tresurer.
Julia Hagan was appointed as club historian. At the end of
