lesser privileged people and hence its CSR activities have only increased with time

A unique social development initiative, Graamasobha aims at the upliftment of BPL families
in Vadakkenchery and Kizhakkenchery graama panchayats in Palakkad district, Kerala
•
About 2,500 families have been adopted through an in-depth scientific poverty mapping
scheme called Social Empowerment Mapping Exercise (SEME)
•
Aims to achieve comprehensive and sustainable social empowerment of these families
through initiatives in education, health, employment, water, sanitation and housing, besides
various other social empowerment measures

Started in the year 2007 to empower and enable the rural poor to break away from the vicious

circle of poverty, ignorance, deprivation, and exclusion by providing their children with high-

During 2014-15, 824 students in the Vadakkenchery and Kizhakkenchery panchayats were on
the rolls from LKG to Class 8. Since January 2015, the Academy has been functioning as a
partly boarding school with students from Class 8 provided with accommodation in the campus.

Sobha Icon - Aims at creating ‘icons for India’ by making high-quality learning opportunities
available for deserving students of other government schools who have exceptional skills but
not the opportunities to grow. Regular academic professionals engaged to enhance the
performance of over 100 students.
•
Sobha Shadow Icon - A foundation programme and a recruitment base for Sobha Icon.
•
Sobha Icon Higher Secondary Course - A two year full-time on campus, technology-driven,
professional college enrolment oriented programme for a batch of 30 students each in Science
and Commerce streams and registered with Kerala State Open School for certification.

Sobha Icon Higher Education Support Programme – To support students who have
secured admissions in premier institutions based on merit.

Sobha Hermitage, located on verdant green estates, is the most benevolent home one can
hope to find for the deprived. It is the epitome of humanity, offering love, care, and
support to the neglected sections of the society - senior citizens as well as young widows,
referred to as ‘young mothers’, and their children.

The residents stay in a secular and secure environment where they are provided with
food, clothing, shelter and premium resources, and services along with the best facilities,
all on the house.

The Sobha Health Care Centre has redefined the limits of primary healthcare institutions
anywhere in the country. The target group comprises the 2,500 BPL families of the adopted
panchayats, senior citizens of Sobha Hermitage, students of the Sobha Academy and their
parents. The facilities include free consultation, diagnosis, tests, treatment, and medicines.
The Centre has also set up outreach counters to reach out to the needy at their doorsteps.

During 2014-15, 12,990 patients were treated under the Sobha Healthcare programmes

expenses of their children are met by the Trust so as to give them adequate opportunities
to come up in life.

Sobha Young Mother Rehabilitation programme: Young widows called “Young mothers” and
children who live in Sobha Hermitage are provided a comprehensive rehabilitation package
under which young mothers are given employment at The Sobha Academy for which they
are paid appropriately. They are also given the option of pursuing education free of cost.
Their children are enrolled in The Sobha Academy where they are given education, which is
again free of cost. The young mothers are also given support to get remarried. Out of 20,
five have been remarried
remarried.

Sobha Dowry-less Social Wedding: The Trust conducts social weddings that are free from
the fangs of dowry and till date, it has carried out 490 weddings. It helps approximately 40
women get married each year and provides basic resources to the couples to help them
begin their wedded life. They are given pre marriage counselling and their post married life
is monitored by the Trust offering help as and when needed.
RISING TO OTHER CAUSES
•
Sobha Vocational Training Centre (SVTC) aims at providing functional vocational
training, and paid apprenticeships in carpentry to youth from poor families. Plans are afoot
to add more trades in the near future
future. Direct and indirect employment is provided to many

through SVTC. Besides this, other centres have also been established for imparting training

in computers, music and tailoring. The Computer Centre has trained more than
90 women in Computer Graphics since 2009 and all are placed well.

Sobha Community Centre - a beautiful and spacious edifice for the deprived. It plays
host to various community mobilisation programmes including medical camps, orientation
and training classes, and social weddings. The Centre also comprises a dining hall that has
a seating capacity of about 300, where several poor people are fed free of cost twice every
day.
•
Sobha’s support to ‘Mission: Zero Landless Kerala’ – At the request of Government
of kerala, The Trust proposed to donate 3 cents of land each to 50 landless people,
identified by the government in Vadakkenchery and Kizhakkenchery panchayats to support
the noble cause of ‘Mission: Zero Landless Kerala’.
