Since Metro Rapid only stops at major cross
streets, there’s nothing to slow you down. Just
show up at your station to find a bus coming by
every few minutes. Then cruise through intersections with special sensors that keep traffic lights
green. Less time waiting at
red lights means fewer delays.

How should I care for my TAP card?
Treat it like a credit or debit card. Do not bend, puncture,
wash or leave the card in the sun.
How do I load another pass or value
to my TAP card?
How long will my TAP card last?
Load your card at a TAP Sales Location, taptogo.net
or at a Metro Rail ticket vending machine. The pass
or value will be automatically loaded to your card.
There is no need for a new card when purchasing,
because your pass or value is loaded onto your
existing TAP card.
Do I need to tap my TAP card to a fare box or
station validator every time I ride?
Yes. When boarding any bus or train, tap your TAP
card to show valid proof of fare. You must have a
valid pass or value loaded onto your TAP card in
order for your card to be valid.
The TAP card itself is designed to last about 3 years;
eventually, you’ll need a replacement card. Remember,
you must load a pass or value onto your TAP card for it
to be valid.
What if I lose my TAP card?
Don’t worry, you’re protected with Balance Protection.
Once you report your card lost or stolen at taptogo.net or
1.866.TAPTOGO, your balance or pass will be restored and
your card will be replaced for a fee (certain restrictions
apply). We will cancel the old card so no one can use it.
What is Autoload?
Never worry about an expired pass or your value running
low. By enrolling in TAP Autoload, you authorize TAP to
load value onto your TAP card when the balance on your
card falls below $10, or when your pass expires. To enroll
in Autoload, visit taptogo.net or call 1.866.TAPTOGO.

Re-loading Your Pass
Where is my TAP card accepted?
Visit taptogo.net or call 1.866.TAPTOGO for

Enjoy your ride!
Remember, you’ll use your TAP card
month after month. Do not throw
it away!
When your pass expires, load another pass onto

Please, take care

You can also sign up to purchase your pass
automatically each month, and avoid waiting in

If you don’t need a pass for a certain month or week,
keep your
card and simply re-load it when
you’re ready to ride again.

Get into a Metro Vanpool and put
some money back in your pocket.
Gas prices keep going up. And if you travel a long distance to
work, you’re hit the hardest.
Now, Metro has some good news. Just vanpool to work in
LA County and you can bring the price of gas and your other
commuting costs way down.
If you’re not familiar with vanpooling, it’s a lot like carpooling…
only bigger, with vans that comfortably carry 5 to 15 people.
Save Money
Vanpool costs are only about a fourth of driving alone.
Plus, you’ll save wear and tear on your car. And now, with
Metro’s Public Vanpool Program, Metro will pay up to $400
toward your van lease…every month!
Save Time
With miles of carpool lanes criss-crossing Southern California,
you’ll also save time. Vanpoolers save as much as 40 minutes
each day on their commute.
Get Free Gas
Start your own Metro Vanpool between August 1
and September 30th and you’ll get a $300 gas card.
Log onto metro.net/vanpool for complete details.
Don’t have enough riders to start a vanpool? To find a Metro
Vanpool with available seats, just log onto the Metro Seat
Finder at metro.net/vanpool to find vanpool routes in your area.
Metro Vanpools must be open to the public and commute to a worksite
located within LA County. Certain restrictions apply. Go to metro.net/vanpool
for complete details.

With over one million boardings a day,

Steve Burns. Steve commutes every day
from his home in West Covina to his job

Con más de un millón de usuarios al día,
Metro transporta a muchas personas,
incluyendo a Janice Ortiz. Janice, una viuda

San Gabriel Valley Operator Ray Guinn,
who nominated Steve for recognition,
said, “Steve is an exemplary Metro
customer. He’s quick to help his fellow
passengers when they have questions
about our service.”
Jack Bartman, un conductor del Valle de San

un reconocimiento dice, “Janice ha viajado

If there is something to desire,
there will be something to regret.
If there is something to regret,
there will be something to recall.
If there is something to recall,
there was nothing to regret.
If there was nothing to regret,
there was nothing to desire.

Six New Metro Rapid Lines Hit
The Street This Month
Metro Public Transit Is
50 Years Old
San Fernando Road, Central Avenue, Atlantic,
Manchester/Firestone and Pico boulevards are all
getting the fast and frequent Metro Rapid treatment
beginning June 30.
Fifty years ago in 1958, the first Metro
(Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority) became
the owner and operator of transit in Los Angeles.
It marked a new era in the region when for the first time
transit was under public control with a governing board
of local o;cials.
> Metro Rapid Line 724 will serve San Fernando Road
and Lankershim Boulevard between the Sylmar/
San Fernando Metrolink Station and the Metro Rail
North Hollywood Station.
> Metro Rapid Line 794 will serve San Fernando Road,
Brand Boulevard and Hill Street between the Burbank
Metrolink Station and downtown LA.
> Metro Rapid Line 753 will serve Central Avenue
between downtown LA and the Metro Rail Imperial/
Wilmington/Rosa Parks Station.
> Metro Rapid Line 762 will serve Fair Oaks and Atlantic
boulevards between Pasadena and the Metro Rail
Artesia Station.
> Metro Rapid Line 715 will serve Manchester Avenue/
Firestone Boulevard between the LAX City Bus Center
and Atlantic Boulevard in South Gate with connection
to the Metro Blue Line.
> Metro Rapid Line 730 will serve Pico Boulevard
between downtown LA and the Pico/Rimpau
Transit Center.
For timetable information on these new routes,
go to metro.net.
June 2008
For some $40 million, LAMTA purchased the
equipment, facilities and routes of two private
companies: Metropolitan Coach Lines (formerly
the Paci>c Electric Railway and Asbury Rapid Transit
Lines) and Los Angeles Transit Lines (formerly
Los Angeles Railway).
The LAMTA had originally been formed in 1951 to study
the feasibility of building a monorail line between the
San Fernando Valley and Long Beach. That proposal
was eventually shelved in favor of looking into
establishing a subway system.
The original Metro became the Southern California
Rapid Transit District in 1964 operating the bus system
and eventually breaking ground on the long awaited
subway. In 1993, it became the Los Angeles County
Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
