As president of AANP, it is my pleasure to
invite you to join us in San Antonio, Texas for
our 2016 National Conference, June 21 – 26
as we showcase NPs on a Patient-Centered
Mission. Since everything is bigger and
brighter in Texas, we believe this schedule
will live up to the hype of the Lone Star State.
IMPORTANT DATES
• Monday, March 7, 2016
• Thursday, March 31, 2016
• Sunday, May 22, 2016
• Monday, June 20, 2016
We will have three general sessions in 2016.
Our opening general session speaker on
Wednesday, presidential historian and
Pulitzer Prize-winning author Doris Kearns Goodwin, brings extraordinary
insight on the impact of the 24/7 news cycle, social media, pop culture
and the rise of the Super PACs in the election process. With her uncanny
sense for detail and a master storyteller’s grasp of drama and depth, she
brings history alive as she examines the leadership triumphs, trials and
tribulations of the men and women who have shaped this nation, culled
from her lifetime examination of the U. S. presidency. You don’t want to miss
this great opening session showcasing a unique historical perspective on
political and current events.
The conference schedule includes approximately 170 75-minute concurrent
presentations as well as the very popular six-minute lectures. There are also
podium and poster presentations, regional and specialty practice group
meetings and plenty of time to network and exchange information. The
exhibit hall will once again be filled with the latest products and services
geared to practicing NPs as well as NP students. The 2015 exhibit hall
attracted a record number of exhibitors with over 330 participants in the
hall and we anticipate another strong presence in 2016.
Circle June 21 – 26 on your calendar. We look forward to seeing you
in San Antonio.

in the registration brochure when available. Approved pharmacology credit will be
posted on the National Conference page at aanp.org when available. All NP state
regulatory agencies and certifying bodies recognize and accept AANP CE credit.

16.2.012 Welcome, Presentation of Flags,

Annual Membership Meeting

Opening Keynote
Every Four Years:
The 2016 Presidential Campaign
Doris Kearns Goodwin
Join your colleagues for a unique opening general session focused on national
leadership. “America’s historian-in-chief” Doris Kearns Goodwin, our keynote
speaker, examines the evolution in presidential campaign communication and
strategy - underscoring the constant focus on personal and professional exposure and
accountability that comes with a run for the White House. Goodwin entertains and
educates with stories of an exhausting and costly race that is dominated by the 24/7
news cycle, social media, pop culture and the rise of the Super PACs. Following the
keynote, two national leadership awards will be given. The Towers Pinnacle Award,
named in honor of Jan Towers, will be presented to an individual for their leadership
in ongoing advocacy activities that elevate and highlight NP contributions to health
care. The recipient of the Sharp Cutting Edge Award, named in honor of Nancy Sharp,
is awarded to an individual who has demonstrated extraordinary service activities on
behalf of NPs.
Annual Membership Meeting
Join us as we premiere the AANP Annual Membership Meeting as part of the Opening
General Session. You will hear about the highlights made in 2015 by NPs and AANP
and be introduced to AANP board members. The prestigious national leadership
awards (The Towers Pinnacle Award and the Sharp Cutting Edge Award) will be
presented at this session. You will hear results of the latest AANP election. State award
recipients and new FAANP inductees will also be showcased. This is one event you will
not want to miss.

SMOKING RESTRICTIONS
To provide a safe and healthy environment, the HBGCC is a non-smoking facility.
All interior areas are designated as non-smoking areas.
AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT (ADA)
The HBGCC is complying with requirements specified by the Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA). AANP is responsible for all non-permanent accessibility
requirements. If you have any questions, require special accommodations or
auxiliary aid needs relating to a disability for your conference attendance, please
notify AANP at [email protected] or 512-442-4262 no later than Monday,
May 16, 2016.
ANIMALS
Live animals are prohibited within the HBGCC other than animal(s) that serve a
guide or service function as defined by ADA (Americans with Disabilities). The
ADA defines service animals as dogs that are individually trained to do work or
perform tasks for people with disabilities.
FIREARMS / WEAPONS

WHAT TO DO IN SAN ANTONIO
Watch for information at aanp.org/conferences/national-conference regarding
discounts, special offers and additional information on what to do and where to
go in San Antonio.
SPECIAL INITIATIVES
AANP believes in giving back to
the host city, San Antonio, by
providing conference participants
the opportunity to show their
support for the community. This
year our special initiative reaches
out to two foundations; Dress for
Success and Fisher House.
Dress for Success® is a non-profit, volunteer driven organization that works
with over 90 greater San Antonio agencies to identify disadvantaged women
who, through support, can gain employment and economic independence.
Conference participants are invited to donate to a clothing drive by bringing
new or gently used items such as suits, tops, dress pants, skirts and accessories
such as shoes and purses. AANP will have bins located in the convention center
to collect the items.
Fisher House, Inc. is also a not-for-profit organization providing “a home away
from home” for families of patients receiving medical care at major military
and VA medical centers. Since its inception in 1992 the Fisher House has
served over 250,000 families and has eight Fisher Houses in San Antonio. The
foundation ensures there is never a lodging fee. Conference participants are
invited to donate gift cards such as HEB and Walmart, which will be collected at
Registration Operations.
Make plans now to set aside new and like-new clothing as well as gift cards to
support both of these conference special initiatives. Checks will also be accepted.
Let’s show San Antonio how much we care by combining our efforts to make a
difference in someone’s life!
