HARVARD STAINED GLASS SHIELDS
HANDMADE CRAFTSMANSHIP BY VITRAUX
Founded by Jason L. Outlaw (DMD/DMSc, Harvard ‘17)
Jason is an artist and clinician and is the founder
of Vitraux. He discovered his passion for stained
glass during his freshman year of high school and
has been working with the medium for the past 20
years. He completed his stained glass apprenticeship
at the Beverly Art Center in Chicago and is currently
a degree candidate at Harvard School of Dental
Medicine. He combines modern craftsmanship
with techniques developed during the renaissance.
At Vitraux, all of our work is handmade. Our
unique designs integrate woodwork, mosaic, metal
work, painting, gilding, mirror and sandblasting.
Each stained glass shield is handmade by our team of
artists. We can build stained glass versions of any of
the Harvard University Shields, including the shields
from the Harvard Undergraduate Houses. View
pictures of our designs below or visit our website at

Each piece of glass is individually cut to perfection. The marbling of the glass is creatively oriented to
simultaneously create order and mystery. The frame is made of cherry stained wood and measures 13.5 inches
by 16.5 inches. The brass hanging apparatus is hinged, and can be hidden out of sight. Two 4-foot lengths of
brass chain are included that can shortened to accommodate any window. Each shield is signed by the artist.
Names of the Above Shields: Harvard Business School, Harvard College, Harvard Graduate School of Education, Harvard Medical School
Harvard Law School, Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard Athletics
Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Harvard University / Faculty of Arts & Sciences), Harvard Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, Radcliffe College / Institute
A LASTING LEGACY
Harvard is the oldest institution of higher education in the United States. On Sept. 8, 1836, it was announced
that Harvard President Josiah Quincy had found the first rough sketch of the College arms – a shield with the
Latin motto “VERITAS” (meaning “Verity” or “Truth”) on three books. It became the basis of the seal officially
adopted by Harvard in 1843 and still informs the version used today. (Source: Harvard History at a Glance)
ELEGANT SIMPLICITY
Our stained glass shields are versatile and can be hung in windows, on walls, and are attractive whether they are
back-lit or front-lit. The above Harvard Athletics above is hung on a shelf behind a breakfast nook.
