Born from Kira Davis’s dream of encouraging and enjoying the beauty of harp music as a group, Harp Circle specializes in Celtic music that is sure to pull you into another, more magical, world—a world of fairies, leprechauns, and all kinds of beautiful and sprightly happenings! Harp Circle performs for university and community functions, weddings, and especially for the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival. Bittersweet Bluegrass The Hot Club of Zion Island Style Dancers Bittersweet Bluegrass is a Utah-based, all-girl bluegrass band featuring tight harmonies, energetic tempos, and amazing instrumentals. With original tunes and arrangements of old favorites, Bittersweet Bluegrass delights audiences of all ages on the traditional bluegrass instruments of guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and bass. Though the girls lead busy lives at school, work, and home, they make time to share their love of music with anyone who will stop and listen. bittersweetbluegrass.com The Blue Aces The Hot Club of Zion started out as a jazz combo for the School of Music at the University of Utah in the spring of 2011. Within a few short weeks they were already playing as a band outside of school. Their style and sound is deeply rooted in the music from the 1930s and 1940s, playing a wide array of gypsy jazz/swing and jazz standards in the style of the French gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt. thehotclubofzion.com theblueaces.com Dedicated to preserving and sharing the culture, tradition, and heritage of Polynesia, Island Style Dancers bring a variety of dances from the islands of Hawaii, Tahiti, and New Zealand to hundreds of people here in Utah as well as around the country! Cherie has always loved folk and acoustic music, and while she took piano lessons in her youth, she didn’t ever pick up a guitar till she was in college. However, as Cherie’s songwriting matured, the guitar seemed to become the perfect fit for her vivid, storytelling lyrics. Some of Cherie’s highlights include playing at Nashville’s Bluebird Cafe, being a finalist in the prestigious Kerrville Newfolk songwriting competition, and opening for bluegrass legend Tim O’Brien. cheriecall.com With strong, meaningful lyrics and a voice to match, Sarah’s songs and performances are getting noticed. In addition to performing on the 2010 Cayamo Cruise and the main stage at Folks Fest 2008, Sarah has been a finalist at competitions in Telluride, Kerrville, Mountain New Song, and Sisters. Sarah has also shared stages with Darrell Scott, Melissa Ferrick, Willy Porter, Peter Himmelman, Mark Stuart, Stacey Earle, Edie Carey, and more, winning new and devoted listeners each time. The Blue Aces are an all-girl band on the rise. Cristal Ramirez, Katie Henderson, McKenna Petty, and Alisa Ramirez show their passion for music by incorporating an original pop-rock sound. Winners of both the Ogden and Velour Battles of the Bands, with guest appearances on radio and TV as well as the Rooftop Concert Series of Provo, these girls are giving the local music scene something to talk about. Cherie Call Amara Doxey & Cody Robins Singers, songwriters, and self-trained guitarists, Amara Doxey and Cody Robbins team up to form a talented duo that combines Amara’s penetrating vocals and lyrics with Cody’s expressive, audience-engaging voice and rhythmic acoustic guitar. Musically, they are two roads merging as Cody’s background from country music and post-grunge bands of the late nineties meets the poetic influences and new folk style of Amara’s songwriting. Sarah Sample Andy Sherwin & Friends The Souvenirs Andy Sherwin’s layered harmonies and cowboy-poetry lyrics draw inspiration from the best folk, rock, blues, and country traditions as well as his own life experiences in the American West. He combines eclectic influences like The Jayhawks, Elvis Costello, and Townes Van Zandt into a sound all his own. More than anything, Andy’s music aims to tell you a story—one that reminds you that even when you’re feeling bad, the world’s got plenty of good to spare. Gary Hansen Between their western roots and shared affection for classic country music, the Souvenirs bring life to a style of country all their own. These sisters draw you in with harmony-laden lyrics reminiscent of an earlier era that carries the promise of a slower, simpler life. He has played his flute as a featured artist at festivals and house concerts as well as at museums and art galleries. Gary is excited to once again return to the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival. Nancy Hanson Nancy is a singer-songwriter who is a little bit country, a little bit folk, and a lot of unabashed talent. With songwriting that is simple, honest, and from the heart, Nancy speaks directly to the soul. Her guitar playing and stage presence are strong and compelling. Add a voice that is at once warm and shimmering, and you begin to see and feel the deep talents of this wonderful artist, this painter of ideas. nancyhanson.com 22 Sam Thornbrue Sam is a 12-year-old troubadour who received his first guitar four months before his 11th birthday. Since then, he has written more than ten original songs and has opened for acts like Lukas Nelson. Sammy draws from greats like Woody Guthrie and Hank Williams as well as newer acts like Old Crow Medicine Show, Justin Townes Earl, and Joe Fletcher. He has been called an old soul with a hipster’s style. 23
