President’s Report From the Desk of David Duer The month of August has been a very busy time for the Roswell Chamber of Commerce and for the community as school is now in session. The Chamber has put a survey out to the membership to keep all information about your business as accurate as possible. Make sure that you fill this out and send it back in to the office staff. Our membership is very important to us and we want to make sure that we are able to serve you, so if you are not receiving information or if have changes please let us know. David Duer I want to express how proud I was that the Roswell Invaders won the World Series for their league the first year. I am so excited to have another season. They played great baseball and I want to thank everybody that supported them. The Chamber of Commerce hosted your 11th Annual Business Showcase held at the Roswell Convention and Civic Center on August 11th. The Showcase was attended by numerous individuals and businesses were thrilled to show off their key products. President, Board of Directors 2011-2012 The Roswell Chamber of Commerce was co-host in the Out of this World Job Fair along with Work Force Connection, Hispano Chamber of Commerce, Eastern New Mexico University - Roswell, Congressman Steve Pearce and Economic Development. There were over 60 businesses with hundreds of jobs to offer and over 500 employees looking for a job. This was held at the Roswell Convention and Civic Center August 16th and was a terrific success! Congressman Steve Pearce along with Mayor Del Jurney addressed the group and officially opened the event with a Ribbon Cutting from the Roswell Ambassadors (RedCoats). Tim Keithly from Congressman Pearce’s office was the M.C. for the event and a fashion show was hosted by the Eastern New Mexico University – Roswell. The Chamber of Commerce sponsored two very fine young artists at the Roswell Fine Arts League & New Mexico Miniature Arts Society 28th Annual Juried Art Show held at the Roswell Museum and Art Center on August 18th. Business after Hours this month was held at J.P. Stone Community Bank. Kenneth Berry and his staff had the bank decorated to the hilt! Thank you all for such a wonderful and successful event on August 23rd. The Business after Hours Event’s are provided for the Members of the Roswell Chamber of Commerce to extend an opportunity to market you and your business and to network with other business owners and professionals throughout the community. The Roswell Chamber of Commerce is hosting a series of Health Care Reform seminars to let you know how this Reform will affect your business and how you can be pro-active. The 1st seminar was held on August 26th with another series on September 30th, so make sure that you get a seat and hear how the Reform changes are taking place. Michael’s Monthly Roswell development update from the City Planning Director, Michael Vickers Familia Dental: Congratulations on the opening of the new dental clinic! The project was a renovation to the old Bank of America and conversion to a children’s dental office. The building is approximately 5,000 square foot and features high-end finishes. (Located at 2600 N. Main St.) Poor Claire Monastery: A new kitchen has been added to the existing building and they will soon start on a new addition that will be the new infirmary! Construction is expected to be complete close to year end. (Located at 809 E. 19th Street) Washington Federal Renovation: The 17,000 square foot bank building is undergoing extensive renovations and upgrades. Once complete, Washington Federal will utilize 5,000 square feet and lease out the remaining 12,000 to a prospective tenant. (Located at 300 N. Pennsylvania) Krumland Auto Group Solar Project: The dealerships have put up covered awnings for vehicles with solar panels on top! This project will supplement the electricity usage of the stores as well as feed power back to the grid which will benefit the community as a whole! (Located along W. 2nd Street) Burger King: The new restaurant is under construction! It will feature a larger building than the typical prototype size with high end finishes. A two lane drive thru will be located on the north side of the building and there will be adequate access on both Main and 19th Streets. The store is scheduled to be open by the end of the year. (Located 1805 N. Main Street between Hastings and Walgreens) Roswell Community Little Theater Renovation: The RCLT is moving into the old Park Twin Movie Theater! The project is a 5,974 square foot renovation and will be completed in two phases. It will seat approximately 182 people when complete. Phase I includes remodeling the theater room on the north with a new stage and seating and renovations to the lobby and bathrooms. It will also include leveling the floor of the south theater room to prepare for Phase II. (Located at 1717 S. Union in the former Park Twin Movie Theater) Farmer’s Market Renovation/Expansion: Farmer’s will undergo an extensive renovation and expansion to the existing building! The project will encompass the former Inspirations Flower shop to the South. (Located at 2810 N. Main St. next to Westlake Hardware) Westlake Hardware Expansion: The store has started the addition to the south. It will enclose the fenced area to the south that served as their storage area. (Located at 2810 N. Main Street next to Farmer’s Country Market) City of Roswell Fire Station 3: The new fire station will replace the current station at 2909 N. Garden Ave. It is a new construction project that has 13 dorm rooms and can house up to 16 people. In addition to the building, it also features bays for 8 vehicles. Construction is scheduled to be complete late summer of 2011. (Located at 2800 N. Wilshire Blvd.) Sally Port Inn: The Sally Port is undergoing extensive renovations to their hotel! Virtually every room has been gutted and completely redone and a new roof has been installed. The project is expected to be complete in 2011. (Located at 2000 N. Main) Holiday Inn Hotel & Conference: The new hotel and conference center is in the process of paving the private drive that enters the hotel site. Full construction is expected to start in 2011.
