Most Worshipful Grand Master of Prince Hall Grand Lodge of California
Brother Donald R. Ware attended
the University of Redlands and
left after 3 years to attend the UC
San Francisco Medical School
and UC Berkeley School of Health.
While in medical school he was
elected Executive Secretary and
eventually President of the Student National Medical Association. He became the Chief of the
Nation’s High Blood Pressure
Demonstration Programs under
President Jimmy Carter. Brother
Ware was a Josiah T. Macy Senior
Fellow in Health Policy at the Harvard Schools of Medicine, Public
Health, Business, and John F.
Kennedy School of Government
from 1980 to 1983. He became
the first African American fellow
in cardiology at the Kaiser Foundation in Los Angeles, and later
served as the President of the Kaiser Alumni Association of Southern California.
In 1978, Brother Ware was entered, passed, and raised in Felix
Lodge No. 3, F&AM, District of
Columbia. He has held leadership
positions on the local, state and national level in the York
Rite and Scottish Rite. He has served or is currently serving as the R.E. Grand King of the Most Excellent Prince Hall
Grand Chapter, Holy Royal Arch Masons of the State of California and Hawaii; an Honorary Past Grand High Priest of
the Grand Conference of Holy Royal Arch Masons USA and
the Bahamas; Grand Thrice Illustrious Master of the Illustrious Grand Council Royal & Select Masters of the State of
California Inc.; Grand Deputy for the Western Region of the
General Grand Council Royal & Select Masters; and Grand
Commander Pacific Prince Hall Grand Commandery, Knights
Templar States of California and Hawaii.
He was elevated to Sovereign Grand Inspector General; the
thirty-third and last degree of
the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite in 1986. He was elected
as the Imperial Outer Guard
of the AEAONMS (Shriners) in
2004. He currently serves as the
Imperial Oriental Guide.
He serves as the Medical Director
for the Council of Deliberation of
A.A.S.R. for California and Hawaii; Grand Conference of Holy
Royal Arch Masons USA and the
Bahamas; Convent General of
KYCH; and the Grand Encampment of the Knights Templar.
Brother Ware was elected as the
Physician and Grand Medical Director of the Conference of Grand
Masters of Prince Hall Masons
during the Presidency of Hon.
Deary Vaughn and has served
every President since that time.
Grand Master Ware has served as
the Chairman of the Board of the
Inglewood Chapter of the American Red Cross; Board Member of
Ability; founder of the Youth Empowered for Survival Program
and the Phi Beta Sigma Undergraduate Chapter University
of Redlands; member of Morning Star Baptist Church and
the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation; former host of
“Health is Your Wealth” on KTYM – 1460 AM Inglewood, CA;
Chairman African American History Month, City of Los Angeles, and one of the LA Times’ 100 most influential African
Americans in Los Angeles.
Dr. Ware is a cardiologist and the founder and owner of the
Covenant Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. He specializes
in diagnosing and treating heart diseases, such as congenital
heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart rhythm disorders and heart failure. He is the author of the autobiography,
“The Chariot Has Come.”
