When you arrive at the facility, contact a staff member for assistance with the proper entrance and equipment. Gradual steps into the water are also available. Medical Conditions – Please inform the Lifeguards if you have a medical condition. In the interest of public health and safety the Lifesaving Society requires that “individuals with a serious medical condition be directly supervised by an adult who is familiar with the condition and treatment”. Admission Standards for Public Swims – Children under 9 years of age must be directly supervised in the water and within arm’s reach of a guardian 16 years of age or older. Maximum three children under 9 years of age per guardian. Participants aged 9 and up may be required to participate in a facility swim test to determine their swimming level. Those who pass the facility swim test may swim in the deep end. Those who do not pass the facility swim test must remain in the shallow end. Facility Swim Test – To successfully pass the facility swim test, participants must: swim 25 metres with the ability to put their face in the water; take at least one (1) breath without putting their feet on the bottom of the pool; and, tread water for one (1) minute. The swim admission standard applies to all swims. Aquatics staff may ask for a demonstration of swimming ability if they feel there is a question of a participant’s safety. What Should my Baby Wear in the Pool? – Babies should wear baby swim diapers or plastic pants under a bathing suit. Swim diapers are available to purchase for $2 at the Customer Service Desk. Changerooms – Children under 7 years of age may use any changeroom accompanied by an adult 16 years of age or older. Children 7 years of age and over must use the appropriate gender changeroom. Please check with our lifeguards for approval. Age of Participants – Most children’s programs/activities are age-specific. We ask that you respect these guidelines which were developed to serve the best interests of all participants, and to ensure an enjoyable experience in our programs. Important Note – Recreational swimming hours may change due to special events or program needs. Changes will be posted one week prior to event. Parents should ensure that children have not eaten at least one hour prior to swimming to reduce the risk of vomiting while swimming. If your child is not feeling well, consider the health of others and do not participate in the program. Pool facilities may close without notice due to maintenance issues or pol fouling. Lesson Notes – Please prepare your child for a male or female instructor. Staff cannot accommodate preference of instructor. The Shelburne police are urging the public to “LOCK IT OR LOSE IT”. Studies about thefts from vehicles show that nearly 100% of these crimes involve unlocked car doors or incidents where valuables were left in plain view with or without locked doors. Many of these crimes - and the resulting losses to the victims - can be prevented with some simple, common sense actions on the part of all of us. Here are a few crime prevention tips to help keep us from becoming the victim of a burglary or theft: • Remember to always secure your car doors when parking your vehicle, even if for a few minutes or in your own driveway. It just takes a few seconds for a criminal to enter an unlocked vehicle. • Do not leave valuables, such as cellphones, GPS units, iPods, laptops, purses, tools etc. in plain view inside your vehicle. Secure them in a glove box, console, or even better in the trunk. Thieves will generally search for other vehicles that are easier targets. • Park in well lighted areas at night. • Not every car burglar working the street is easily spotted. Be wary of anyone who seems to be suspicious. • Keep your garage door closed and locked at night. Many burglaries to ! E F A S E RIV D , E F A S Y R! A E M ! PL M U S R OU Y Y O J N E AND garages occur with doors left wide open. An open garage is an invitation to a thief to take anything in sight. • Be SUSPICIOUS of anyone approaching your vehicle or roaming your neighbourhood. • It is important to call police immediately whenever possible, whether day or night, to most effectively prevent a crime, identify potential criminals or solve a crime. If a citizen believes a crime is in progress, is about to occur or has just occurred, calling 9-1-1 is the most effective method of contacting police. 300 County Road 124 Shelburne, ON L9V 2Z4 (Near Home Hardware) 519.925.5353 NOW !
