Your participation is requested at the 20th annual Falcon Batchelor Memorial
scramble golf tournament. Once again it will be held at the Doral Golf Resort a
Spa’s Blue Monster course on Wednesday April 20, 2011.
Falcon Batchelor & Dr. Robert McKey were instrumental in founding Sunny Sh
Sea Camp (SSSC), a camp for children and young adults who had Cystic Fibros
Falcon lived with Cystic Fibrosis for 35 years; Dr McKey treated CF patients fo
nearly 50 years. Early in 1990, friends of Falcon discussed hosting a golf tourna
as an annual fund raiser for SSSC. Falcon attended the 1st annual SSSC golf to
ment and was pleased with the success. Two months after the inaugural golf ev
Falcon lost his battle with Cystic Fibrosis. In 1991, the Sunny Shores Sea Camp
Golf Tournament was renamed The Falcon Batchelor Memorial Golf Tournamen
honor Falcon’s contribution. Dr Mckey passed away in March of 2009 and will
missed. In his memory the annual pre tournament putting contest has been nam
after him.
We will be celebrating our 32nd year of camp during the summer of 2011. The m
sion of Sunny Shores Sea Camp, a 501 (c) 3 not for profit corporation is
“Helping Families and Mentoring Children with Cystic Fibrosis.” When peo
support SSSC, they are not only joining our fight for Cystic Fibrosis, they are al
helping to shape the future of individual children, young adults and their familie
This past summer, we provided a four day camp for over 170 attendees that incl
structured field and beach sports, swimming, round table discussions, physical c
ditioning, guest speakers, talent shows and mentoring by other CF adults. The m
knowledge the CF family can obtain the better the chance for a longer life.
In addition, another thing that makes SSSC special is that all campers and their
ly members attend free of charge. There are no paid volunteers or staff at Sunny
Shores Sea Camp. Camp includes volunteer Physicians, Respiratory Therapists,
Registered Nurses and many others that make camp happen each and every year
Many gladly give up vacation time to attend. The compensation they receive is
joy these campers so freely express.
Last year we raised $136,000, and it is our hope to raise $150,000 this year. Cam
would not be possible without the tremendous support we receive from the Sout
Florida community as well as support from our friends who travel to participate
