There’s A New Head
Freshman Makes
Football Coach at Baldwin Varsity Football Team
By Caleb Schudlich
There’s a new head football coach
at Baldwin and his name is Coach Brad
West.
“I have always wanted to be a head
coach and Baldwin gave me the opportunity to be one,” said Coach West.
Coach West has high expectations
for his players.
“I expect them to give everything
they have inside their hearts to play
with heart, effort, and sportsmanship,”
said Coach.
He plans on making a few changes
as head coach.
“I plan on having new expectations
and putting some coaches in some new
spots,” he said.
He’s got some years of experience
under his belt.
“I’ve been coaching for 8 years,”
said Coach West.
So far he likes his new job as head
coach.
“I love coaching at Baldwin. We’ve
got some great kids here at Baldwin and
I enjoy coaching them,” said Coach.
So let’s give a big welcome to
Coach Brad West.
Baldwin football players
entertain their youngest fans
By Ryan Johnson and Maritza Moradel
A few weeks ago, the Baldwin
Varsity Football Team went to Mamie
Agnes Jones Elementary School to
read to the students. It was Dr. Hall’s
idea to do some form of community
service.
“We thought it would be good
around Homecoming time to get the
kids excited,” said Dr. Hall.
The staff at Baldwin thought it was
a really good idea for many reasons.
Every club and sport needs to give
back to the community. It is also beneficial to the children.
“I think it’s wonderful because I
think that’s how people learn to enjoy
to read. I remember when my nephew
was a little boy (he’s thirteen now) I
would read to him all the time and he is
now an avid reader so it’s very good,”
said Ms. Tritt.
The football players also enjoyed it.
The students at the elementary school
were very interested and enjoyed the
football players as well.
“The trip to the elementary school
was a very humbling experience. I
loved every minute of it. The kids there
were highly inspired and were very
interested in the books we were reading,” said Dorian Clark.
Most of the football players agreed
that they would be willing to do it again
someday.
“The visit to the elementary school
was a very exciting experience. From

TOUCHDOWN, keep your eyes open
for the only freshman on the Varsity
Football Team, Chase Newman.
Chase has been playing football
since the sixth grade. Football is always
on his mind. In his spare time, he
enjoys going into his backyard and
practicing his football fundamentals.
Chase loves being on the Varsity
Team and around all of the varsity
players.
“I’m very proud of how far I have
come to be able to stand with the
Varsity Football Team,” said Chase.
Only positive things can be heard
among his teammates as well as his
coaches.
“I think anytime you have a ninth
grader on a varsity football team it
obviously shows that he has a lot
of character, strength and courage.
His teammates should look at him the
same way,” said Coach Sauod.
“It feels good to have a freshman
because it gives those young guys an
advantage from all the experience,”
said Dorian Clark.
Chase Newman
“I am proud of Chase Newman. He
has shown a lot of heart, character and
pride this year. He starts on offense
and defense and is a hard worker that
gives his all everyday. This experience
is only going to help his career here at
Baldwin,” said Coach West.
So come out on Friday nights to
support the Varsity Football Team and
keep your eyes on this rising star,
Chase Newman.
What’s your favorite
football team?
Football players enjoyed reading to the children.
the class the students were very happy
and excited. I loved doing something
nice for the kids. They really looked up
to all the football players. I would like
to do it again one day,” said Jaivon
Thomas.
The coach likes to see his players
taking on an active role in volunteering
in the community.
“We also plan to do some other
kind of community outreach, such as
picking up trash or volunteering at a
grocery store, bagging groceries or
picking up carts,” said Coach West,
Head Football Coach.
Hopefully we will see many more of
our sports teams and clubs doing good
things for Baldwin like this. What do you
think we should do next?

Varsity Football Has
Worked Hard All Season
By Aleisha Thompson
Every Friday night, fans and students come out to support the Varsity
Indians as they play their rival of the
week. Everyone knows there is a game
every Friday, but most don’t know about
the conditioning that took place over the
summer.
Over the summer, the Varsity Team
practiced every week Monday through
Thursday. Practice started at 8 in the
morning and ended at 10.
“Conditioning was tough, but it was
really helped and got us into shape,” said
Kolby Wilcox, a varsity football player.
Not only did the players condition
over the summer, but they were put into
a new district of teams to play. The var-
sity players aren’t worried, though.
“It’s a lot more challenging than our
old district, but I like it because we are
put to the test each and every week,”
said Jacob VanLooven, a varsity football
player.
Along with a new district, Varsity also
has a new head coach, Coach West.
“It’s great and it’s something I’ve
wanted to do my entire life,” said Coach
West. “It’s been a lifelong goal of mine.”
According to Coach West, the purpose of conditioning was to get players
in the best shape as possible, to get
them stronger and to come together as
a team.
Congratulations to the Varsity Football
Team for working so hard every week and
putting on a show every Friday night.
Summer Football Made
Keeping Our Indians Hydrated Players Stronger
By Chris Dunning
Heat exhaustion is the body’s
response to dehydration and an excessive loss of water and salt through
sweat. High school athletes all over the
nation die from heat exhaustion every
year.
So what are Baldwin’s football
coaches doing to prevent their players
from collapsing?
“We make sure the players get
plenty of water breaks during practice,”
said Coach West.
Have any of our Indians collapsed
on the field?
“NO,” said Coach West.
If a player is suffering of heat
exhaustion he may need to seek medical attention to make sure he will be ok
to play.
“Coaches will get the player the
medical attention he needs as quick as
possible,” said Coach West.
So let’s keep our Baldwin athletes
hydrated and good luck this year!
By Jaivon Thomas and Caleb Schudlich
While most students were at home
asleep, the Baldwin Indians Football
Team was at school every morning all
summer long at 7:30 am.
Workouts began at 8:00 am, and
consisted of lifting weights, cardio, and
abdomen workouts.
“Conditioning really helped me get
into better shape,” said Jacob Molina,
a varsity football player.
At 9:00 the Baldwin Indians then
took it to the field and conditioned.
During conditioning, they stride
the ladder, had cone drills, and ran
110.
“Summer workouts really helped
me get faster and stronger,” said
Dorian Clark, a varsity football player.
Having these summer workouts
really helped the team come together
as one, pulling a stronger bond.
Next time you see a Baldwin Indian
football player, congratulate them on
all of their hard work and effort.

MUSICAL NOTES
Summer with the
Boston Crusaders
Q & A With Baldwin’s
Band Major
By Anna Justice
By Alexus Monroe
A senior here at Baldwin left the
small marching band life and joined the
big leagues.
James Justice, after only one year
of playing the euphonium and marching the baritone, he auditioned for the
third oldest Drum and Bugle Corps in
the world.
The Boston Crusaders are a group
of some of the world’s best musical and
visual performers in the world. With
ages ranging between 17 and 22 years
of age, the musicians all have different
educational levels from high school to
their fourth year in college.
“It taught me that everything is
mental,” said James, “and you get back
what you put into the activity.”
The Drum and Bugle Corps helped
James grow up and become more
mature.
“He is very different, he is more
responsible,” said James’s mother,
Mrs. Justice.
“I thought it was fantastic,” said
Colton Ray Molchan is the new
Band Major for 2013-2014 season. He
was chosen for this position the end
of last year, so that way the band had
leadership roles over the summer and
the start of the school year.
To be Band Major you have to have
certain qualities. What qualities must a
Band Major possess?
“Attitude, attendance, honesty,
responsibility, most skilled overall and
work ethic,” said Colton.
What are some of the duties you
have to do?
“To lead the band without the Band
Director, Mr.Norona. When he tells me
James Justice
Mr. Norona, Baldwin’s Band Director.
“He set himself such a high goal. I
even thought that he may have set it
too high. In the past, I have had other
students set the same goal but they
did not have the work ethic to reach it.
James certainly did, though!”

From Attack Attack! To Nativ
By Jordan Beck
Few bands have ever been through
as many changes and transitions in a
short period of time as the band formerly known as Attack Attack!.
Attack Attack! is a classic in the
metal core genre, being one of the first
to utilize heavy music with European
style synth. They paved the way for
bands such as Asking Alexandria and
I See Stars.
Starting out as a Christian band,
they quickly changed their meaning by
the second album. So many changes in
sound and members have complicated
the fan base, causing a lot of controversy. When the third vocalist left,
they decided to throw in the towel with
Attack Attack!.
The remaining members, along
with the vocalist of I Am Abomination
formed the new band Nativ. This way
they had a fresh start to sound however
they wanted without fan complaints of
how this isn’t the “real” Attack Attack!.
Nativ has released four songs on
Youtube and played their first show
at Riot Fest in Chicago on September
14th, and have mostly received positive
reviews.
“This is so much better than Attack
Attack!,” said Jack McElfresh, a junior.
“Attack Attack! has really improved
since its original form,” said Rachel
Aldridge, a sophomore.

What do you enjoy about being
Band Major?
“Being the highest person up next
to Mr.Norona. Being the person people
look up to and come to for help,” said
Colton.
Are you going to try to get a Band
Scholarship and play in college?
“I would love to, but I don’t know

they even have any. I plan on going
to FSU and playing in their bands,” he
said.

Indians’ Taste In Music
Is Very Diverse
Ryan Johnson
Baldwin is a very diverse school
and the music that students listen to
is also very diverse. You can tell a lot
about someone by what kind of music
they listen to. When asked, most people couldn’t decide their favorite genre
because they listen to a variety of music.
“I have a wide variety from Kendrick
Lamar to Elton John,” said Mr. Green.
When it comes to Mr.Saoud’s favorite, he said, “Garth Brooks because
he’s a great entertainer and it’s the best
concert I’ve ever been to.”
Everyone has a different reason
why they like or don’t like different types
of music or artists, from their attractiveness to their uniqueness.
There are also different, more sentimental reasons. For example, Tracee
Chelette likes rap and his favorite artist is Barney “because he’s purple and
likes little kids like me, I love toddlers.”
said Tracee.
Some people look up to their favorite artist. For example, Autumn Catman
likes Miley Cyrus because “she isn’t
afraid of what people think about her
and she’s unique.”
There are always some people who
just don’t care for music at all, like Mr.
Shields.
“No movies, no music, no leisure,
when I ride in the car I prefer silence.
Ask my wife,” he said.
Everyone has their own taste in
music, why do you think that it’s so
diverse? Do you think it’s brought on to
you or do you think it’s individual preference? Do you think it tells you something about someone or even yourself?

CLUB CORNER
Key Club Has Many
Plans For A Busy Year
By Dylan Lowens
This is going to be an exciting year
for Key Club. They are more committed than ever to serve the community.
This year the Key Club wants to be
more active around the school and
community than in the past. The Key
Club plans to volunteer together at
least one weekend and one day after
school each month in addition to earning volunteer hours individually.
“I feel as if we’re going to be much
more involved than the past years. I’ve
been in the club, and I’m very excited
to see how it goes,” said Lindsey
Harris.
The Key Club wants their members to distinguish themselves among
the student body as role models for
their service and contributions to the
community.
For a student to be part of the
Key Club, they must be dedicated to
serving the community, have a strong
academic history, teacher recommendations, and turn in an anonymous
application with a written statement.
Once this is completed, the applications are then reviewed by the returning Key Club members.
This year’s club officers are
President Blake Parrish, Vice President
Drew Overmeyer, Secretary Jade
McDowell, Treasurer Lindsey Harris,
and Communications Officer William
Gomillian. The club sponsors are Ms.
Donoher and Mr. Holland.
The Key Club plans on attending
many fall festivals and also plans to
work with Habijax to help build high
quality affordable housing.

Against Bullying? Join The
New Anti-Bullying Club
By Imani Wise and Courtney Brown
Have you ever been picked on or
messed with? Have you felt like no
wants to listen to your problems? Well,
you’re in luck. Baldwin has created a
new anti-bullying club to help support all
your bullying needs.
“The club was started by Aston
Perry, our current Miss Baldwin. This is
her platform as Miss Baldwin,” said Mrs.
Saoud.
Aston started the club because she
was bullied and picked on last year and
she really didn’t have anybody to talk
to, so she just wanted to let the kids
know there are people there for them.
She is competing in a pageant for Miss
Northeast Florida and her platform is to
stop bullying.
“I know how it feels to be bullied and
I want it to stop,” said Aston.
Some students at Baldwin feel like
the anti-bullying club would do good
justice here.
“I like that the anti-bullying club is
in action because it is good for the kids
and it will also stop kids from committing suicide because of bullying,” said
Mia Brown.
This club started on October 15.
Meetings are every other Tuesday and
the meetings usually last 30-45 minutes.
So if you need extra support or
need somebody to talk to, then this is
the club for you.
Students Like Activities
Spanish Club Offers
By Katlynn Johnson
Many students enjoy the Spanish
Club because of the many different
activities they do throughout the year.
The students are looking forward to
the trip they will make later this year
to the elementary school when they
help the students with Spanish lessons.
“I like the club because of the
things we do at the end of the year,”
said Michele Lucas.
“I like Spanish Club because of
the activities,” said Mary Wells.
“I joined because of the activities and the people in the club,” said
Cheyenne Partridge.
“I like it because I like to help
out the little kids at the elementary
school,” said Katilyn Griffith.
The activities they have planned
this year include helping out the elementary school, making paper flowers, and they’re even going to have a
trip at the end of the year.
Bible Club Members
Have Fun While
Learning About God
By AJ Stevenson
Bible Club has a lot of fun activities
planned for the year. Every meeting,
the members like to listen to Christian
music, eat pizza, and read the Bible.
There’s a meeting on the last Friday
of every month in room 117, Mrs.
Ashley’s room.
“We would like to invite everyone
to come to Bible Club because it’s fun
and you will learn about God,” said
Andrew Friesson, a Baldwin junior.
The Bible Club students will learn a
prayer that they will say for the school
and the community at each meeting.
All Baldwin students are welcome
to join the club. There’s no requirements.
“Come out to Bible Club, it’s a
great experience to have fun. You get
to be with your friends while learning
about God, then we can have a deeper relationship with Him which most
Baldwin students need,” said Micah
Drum, a Baldwin sophomore.
The sponsors of Bible Club are
Mrs. Mullis and Mrs. Drum. They
would love to have you attend the
meetings.
Come out to Bible Club and have
fun while learning about God.
Love To Act? Join
Drama Club
By Paulo Napoles and Brian Castaneda
If you would like to be an actor or
actress in the future, the Drama Club
is a great place to start. Drama Club
is made up of a group of students who
would like to participate in an after
school play.
Pretending to be another person in
a very different place would be something a unique person would be into.
Imagine being surrounded by a bunch
of unique people that would help you
along with a play. Those people will
critique you and give positive notes on
your presentation.
“A handful of students are participating in it,” said Mrs. Howard, the
Drama Club sponsor.
They will be doing a lot of things to
prepare for the play.
“We do line, improve, read plays,
and will produce a couple,” said Mrs.
Howard.
They will be making big plays later
on in the year.
“We plan to produce a play for
Christmastime with the Band Holiday
Concert, early spring, and the End of
the Year Arts Extravaganza with band,
chorus, and art,” said Mrs. Howard.
There are many roles in drama that
anyone can become. Students can be
actors or the people setting up the set.
Drama Club will work together to create
upcoming spectacular things.

By Taylor Sellers
Ashley Bukowski came to Baldwin
last year and became a middle school
teacher.
Ms. Bukowski’s biggest hobby is
traveling in her spare time. She has
been to Ireland, Scotland, Poland,
Czech Republic, the UK, Australia,
China, Japan, Thailand, Cambodia,
Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and
Canada.
“I also enjoy hiking and being outdoors,” said Ms. Bukowski. “I hiked the
North rim of the Grand Canyon with
my family two years ago. That was an
experience.”
Ms. Bukowski is currently the assistant coach for the middle school and
high school swim teams.
“I am still learning so much about
the team,” said Ms. Bukowski. “I mainly
assist Coach Alex and handle all of
the behind the scenes paperwork like
physicals, eligibility, documenting and
the scoring.”
Ms. Bukowski received her degree
from UNF, and then went back to
school at USF in Tampa to receive her
teaching certificate a few years later.
“I have my Bachelors in Criminal
Justice, with a Minor in Political Science,
and my professional teaching certificate
in math 5-9,” said Ms. Bukowski.
Before coming to Baldwin, Ms.
Bukowski taught in St. Petersburg,
Florida as a full time substitute. Ms.
Bukowski was moved to a new classroom this year next to the middle
schools deans’ office.
Ms. Bukowski
“I absolutely love Baldwin. I love the
small town feeling,” said Ms. Bukowski.
“I love that the school is 6-12 and I will
get to see my current middle school
students graduate from high school in
a few years.”
Mrs. Bukowski’s students really
enjoy her class.
“I like Mrs. Bukowski. When we did
good for the sub she made us brownies.
She is also a really good teacher. She’s
good at explaining the problems to us.
Mrs. Bukowski always makes sure we
understand,” said Jordan Smith.
“She is excited about teaching new
things and loves her subject,” said
Jacob Still.
Congratulations to Ashley Bukowski
for being the Middle School Teacher
Spotlight.
6th Grade Spotlight
By Halie Goodman
This edition’s 6th Grade Spotlight,
Torie Goodman, has made straight
A’s since kindergarten. She plays soccer and cheers at Westside Baptist.
This year has been a big change for
her coming from a small elementary
school to a big high school filled with
people she doesn’t know. But she has
adjusted, made new friends, and loves
Baldwin.
In elementary school, Torie was on
the portals, in chorus, and wrote songs
for all of the pep rallies. And she is not
going to stop there! She plans to join a
bunch of clubs and play a lot of sports
while keeping her grades up, of course.
“My goal is to become valedictorian,” said Torie.
This is a big goal for her and she is
determined to get there.
Soccer has been in Torie’s life
since she was four. Even though she
was quite small for her age, she was
still a fierce competitor. She won the
spirit ball her 5th year for being a great
motivator and team leader.
“From the very beginning she was
a very competitive and very serious
about playing,” said Torie’s mother,
Jamie Tillis.
Along the way she also started to
cheer and swim. Next year she plans
Torie Goodman
on joining the Cross Country Team and
many other sports throughout the rest
of her school days.
Besides hitting the books and going
outside to practice her skills, Torie
enjoys baking and writing.
“Her cakes are the best!” said
Brandon Mittrucker, a family friend.
Torie started baking with her father.
They would make cookies and different
cakes, and he showed her all the tricks
and techniques she knows.
Congratulations, Torie, for being
the 6th Grade Spotlight.
In this edition, the 8th Grade
Spotlight is Landry Humphrey. This is
Landry’s first year at Baldwin. Landry
came from Eagles View Academy.
“I like coming to Baldwin because
there are only 4 classes a day,” said
Landry.
Landry makes all A’s and B’s and
his favorite subject is History.
“I love history because I love to
learn about heritage and the people
who started this country and made it
what it is today,” said Landry.
“Landry asks very good questions
and always has some interesting facts,”
said Ms. Seagraves, his eighth grade
history teacher.
Landry’s favorite sport to play is
baseball. Landry said the reason why
he likes baseball is because it is fun.
Landry has been playing baseball since
he was eight years old. Landry’s goal
this year is to make the Middle School
Landry Humphrey
Baseball Team.
“When I get older I hope to be a
firefighter, because my grandpa was a
firefighter, and I love to help people,”
said Landry.

Baldwin.
Cole cares a lot about sports, he
plays football and baseball. While playing both of these sports he manages to
keep high grades in the classroom.
“I play football and baseball so that
one day I can get a scholarship to a
college,” said.
At home he has two sisters and 1

Shianne Schuchart, this edition’s
Sophomore Spotlight, has had many
athletic achievements in her life. She
plays several sports for Baldwin, including volleyball, softball, and soccer. She
is excellent at all of them.
This is her first year on the Varsity
Volleyball Team.
“Shianne has stepped up and
played good defense for the Varsity
Volleyball Team,” said Mrs. Murfin, her
volleyball coach.
Shianne has two siblings, Brittany
Schuchart who is a junior, and Hunter
Schuchart who is in eighth grade.
Shianne plans on going to college
but she’s not sure where yet. When she
gets older she plans on becoming an
art teacher, and coaching a sport at the
school she teaches at.
“Ever since third grade I discovered
that I had somewhat of an artistic ability,” said Shianne.
About one year ago she started
painting canvas and that’s all she ever
does. If she’s not at practice or a game
she is more than likely at home paint-

Mr. Kelly learned to draw when
he was in high school and college.
He attended college at The Alabama

Sony Gamers Are Excited Super Smash Bros 5 Is
About PlayStation 4
Bigger And Better
By Dylan Polletta
The PlayStation 4 has been the talk
of the gaming world. The day the console came out was the day every Sony
console gamer had been waiting for.
“The PlayStation 4 will rule the
console
war,”
said Jack Wright,
a junior. “It will
destroy
the
Xbox.”
Some Sony
gamers are excited about the new
and
improved
look
of
the
PlayStation.
“The console
is slimmer and
looks way better,”
said James Honeycutt.
The PlayStation 4 also includes
two cameras in the front with 85 degree
field of view.
There is also some talk over the
new look of the DualShock 4 controller
for the PlayStation.
“The controllers have touch pads
on them now,” said Jack Wright.
Sony has indeed put touch pads on
the top of the DualShock 4 controller for
the PlayStation 4.
“You have to pay for PSN
(PlayStation Network) now,” said Drew
Cloer.
This Sony console gamer would
be correct. Sony is now making you
subscribe
to
PlayStation in
order to access
online multiplayer activity.
There have
been
some
major upgrades
in the technology for the
PlayStation as
well. The technology used in
the PlayStation
4 is similar to the hardware found
in PC’s. The PlayStation 4 will also
not support the DualShock 3 controller
from the PlayStation 3 and will not support any PlayStation 3 video games.
So all of you Sony gamers who
haven’t gotten the PS4 yet, go and buy
it because you’re missing out on all of
the new accessories and qualities of
the brand new PlayStation 4.
Meet Xbox One
By Daniel Wellhausen
Gamers all over Baldwin are counting down to the release of the XBOX
ONE. XBOX ONE is Microsoft’s nextgen console that shows the future of
gaming. The XBOX ONE is the all-inone system for your living room.
The games on XBOX ONE look very
clear and realistic. There are multiple
games releasing with the XBOX ONE
like “Call of Duty Ghosts”, “Battlefield
4”, and many more…
XBOX ONE isn’t just a gaming
system but now Microsoft took entertainment to the next level. The XBOX
ONE now plays live television and
Microsoft partnered up with a bunch of
companies like NFL. XBOX ONE also
has a Blu-Ray drive, an upgrade from
the original HD. Microsoft has innovated entertainment for the XBOX ONE.
The XBOX ONE controller looks
similar to the previous XBOX 360 controller, but has 40 new innovations. A
few are an improved directional pad,
moving the battery compartment within
the body of the controller, new impulse
triggers that allow you to feel every hit
and crash, and now when you’re playing
with friends and you pass the controller
or move around the all-new Kinect will
recognize and auto-pair instantly.
Kinect v2 is the all-new upgraded
Kinect which is now sold with every console to get the best gaming experience.
Previous Kinect was very laggy, now
with Kinect v2 it can track everything
from mouths and finger tips moving
to the whole body and your heartbeat.
Kinect v2 can track up to six people
and twenty-five joints and has a 60%
wider view than the previous Kinect. It
also makes gaming easier with all-new
hand gestures and voice commands.
Because of the Kinect v2, XBOX ONE
gives you full control by just saying two
words “XBOX ON”, there will be no
need to touch a controller.
XBOX LIVE is the most popular
online gaming platform on the planet.
Gamers’ profiles even transfer from
the XBOX 360 to the XBOX ONE and
share the account without having to
buy another XBOX LIVE Membership.
Online gaming has improved by increasing the game servers to 300,000. A
new addition is reputation which allows
gamers to be matched up with gamers
similar to them. For example, if you’re
a bad player you will eventually be
matched up with gamers similar to you.
XBOX ONE is cloud-powered which
gives the console a lot more power.
Almost everything on the console runs
off the cloud like gamers’ profiles and
game content. It allows the system to
run so much faster. Achievements have
changed and they’re no longer on the
game disc itself, but run off the cloud.
This allows achievements to be added
constantly and for things that become
popular like “Call of Duty” tactics. The
cloud gives XBOX ONE power and
capabilities like no other.
“The XBOX ONE looks great and is
going to be much better than the PS4,”
said Jamie Hill. “The games look amazing and I can’t wait.”
“I don’t play games much, but when
I do it will definitely be on the XBOX
ONE,” said Stephan Arrendondo.
XBOX ONE will release November
22, 2013 for $499 right before Christmas.
This next-gen console XBOX ONE
needs to be on your Christmas list.

This game features characters like
Mega Man, the villager from Animal

Plus, there will be a new downloadable
character every week; not to mention
all the original characters.
The game will be available on the

NBA 2K14
By Aaron Stegall
The next big thing is among us.
Everyone wants to have it. Everyone
wants to use it. And everyone wants
to show it off. NBA 2K14 is here, along
with 3 mile lines and fights over the
last copy. There have been long lines
and non-stop trouble for Game Stop,
Wal-Mart, and Blockbusters all over
the world. NBA 2K14 is a basketball video game developed by Visual
Concepts and published by 2K Sports.
It was released on October 1, 2013, for
Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and
Xbox 360 as well as the PlayStation
4 and the Xbox One (which has been
set to release as a launch title on
November 15, 2013 and November 22,
2013 respectively).
LeBron James of the Miami Heat is
the cover athlete, and he also served
as the music curator for the game.
2K Sports also released the DLC
pack, a bonus for pre-ordering the
game. It includes 10,000 VC, bonus
content for “Path to Greatness” mode,
adding James in the Blacktop mode
and a signature skill for My Career
mode.
On August 14, 2013, 2K Sports
announced that Crew Mode would
return to this year’s installment of NBA
2K. NBA 2K14 is the successor to NBA
2K13 in the NBA 2K series.
“My friends and I are all going to
get it,” said Jamie Hill, a freshman.
The definitive annual basketball
simulation returns for another season
with more than 3,000 new animations,
updated controls, the debut of Euro
league basketball, a soundtrack handpicked by LeBron James, and the resurrection of the Crews mode in NBA
2K14. Updated Pro Stick controls offer
smash for all the characters, updating
arenas, and improvements on the characters’ costumes and colors.
Nintendo’s world renowned characters such as Pokémon trainer, Mario,
and Pikachu will have special enhancements. The Pokémon trainer character
will have new Pokémon to use for battle, Mario will have new abilities to use,
gamers will be able to evolve Pikachu
from Pichu to Raichu, and Bowser will
be able to grow 100 feet tall to dominate the arena.
So, if you already own the Wii u or
the 3DS, you might want to consider
getting Super Smash Bros 5. You will
not regret it!
gamers more command over their dribbling, defense, and shot type, with players now executing no-look passes and
circus shots, and defenders blocking
dunks and diving on the floor for loose
balls, while the My Player career mode
returns with improved teammate AI and
new rewards for playing stout defense.
“I want to play with the new players,” said Justin Henry, a freshman
NBA 2K14 makes use of Dynamic
Living Rosters, which adjusts rosters to
reflect real-world injuries, and updates
ratings based on the tendencies and
performance of real players. The
Signature Skills player modification feature returns, with six new options that
let gamers turn their My Player character into a One Man Fast break, Flashy
Passer, Pick & Roll Maestro, Screen
Outlet, Pick Dodger, or Tenacious
Rebounder. In addition to consulting
on the soundtrack, LeBron James gets
the dedicated Path to Greatness mode,
which lets gamers live out the past,
present, and future career of the superstar.
Fans of European basketball can
now take control of 14 different Euro
league teams, complete with real rosters, logos, and stadiums, while fans
of classic NBA action can once again
take control of legends like Hakeem
Olajuwon, Michael Jordan, and Magic
Johnson. Local and online multiplayer action remains key to the NBA
2K14 experience, with the return of the
Crews mode once again letting gamers join friends and act as an individual
player during five-on-five action. NBA
2K14 will really be a great game that
will get well over 1-million sales at least.
Many have been looking forward
to playing this game. There are many
great new things about this game.
Saints Row 4 Is Facing
Its Demise
By Jordan Beck
While genre titan Grand Theft Auto
is reaching its peak with GTA5, another
renowned series is facing its demise.
This series is no other than Saints Row.
Originally a gang game, Saints
Row became a classic because of its
fun environment and captivating story
with epic action scenes. Saints Row 2
raised the bar for the franchise, sprinkling in unrealistic craziness that separated it from the average gang game.
Since then the series has gotten crazier
with each installment.
Now the Saints are in control of the
White House, facing an alien invasion.
The player who joined the Saints since
the original and has led them since the
sequel, saves America and its president.
“My favorite part about Saints Row
4 is the last mission,” said Garret
Seagraves, senior at Baldwin High
school.
The player is abducted and spends
most of the game with super powers,
in a simulator. The developers basically went for the craziest, least serious
game possible, and fans are less than
pleased with the direction Saints Row
has gone.
“They’ve strayed too far from the
roots of the Saints Row franchise,” said
Josh Brown, senior at Baldwin.
“It’s entertaining for a while, but it’s
a let down,” said Brian Atkins, junior at
Baldwin.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist
By Aaron Stegall
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist
is an action-adventure stealth game
published by Ubisoft. It is the sixth
installment of Tom Clancy’s Splinter
Cell series and is the direct sequel to
Splinter Cell: Conviction. It was released
for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3,
Wii U, and Xbox 360, in North America
on August 20, 2013, Australia on
August 22, 2013, Europe on August 23,
2013, and
Japan
on
September
5, 2013.
“I can’t
wait to play
it,”
said
Jamie Hill, a
freshman.
Blacklist
introduces a new
gameplay
mechanic called Killing in Motion, allowing the player to highlight targets and
take them out in quick succession while
on the run. The game is set in a thirdperson perspective so the protagonist
and the objects around him are visible.
As well, there is voice integration with
Xbox 360’s Kinect peripheral, which
allow players to say things to distract
enemies and then attack. The player
can also use the Kinect sensor to
control the protagonist with their body
instead of the Xbox 360 controller.
“I want to use the new gadgets,”
said Justin Henry, a freshman.
In the Wii U version, the Gamepad
controller’s touchscreen acts as an
interface to access gadgets and other
features from the protagonist’s armmounted computer, or OPSAT. It also
incorporates the screen and motion
controls to highlight enemies through
thermal vision when using the Killing in
Motion mechanic.
“I can’t wait to play with my brother,”
said Titus Stegall, a seventh grader.
The “Spies vs. Mercs” competitive mode introduced in Splinter Cell:
Pandora Tomorrow is again featured
in Blacklist. The first look of this mode
was announced to be presented on
May 2, 2013 as seen in the puzzle
reveal video. Blacklist also features cooperative
gameplay
in
which
each mission can be
accessed
by talking
with
your
crew inside
the Paladin.
Blacklist
again stars
Sam Fisher,
who is now the spymaster and commander of the newly instated Fourth
Echelon. The game also sees the
return of Fisher’s old ally, Anna ‘Grim’
Grímsdóttir, along with new characters such as Isaac Briggs and Charlie
Cole. Victor Coste, Patricia Caldwell
and Andriy Kobin reprise their roles
from Conviction.
Splinter Cell: Blacklist was released
in North America on August 20, 2013
for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3,
Wii U and Xbox 360 with a European
release on August 23. Additionally, the
UK’s Wii U version was released on
August 23.
Splinter Cell: Blacklist is the victor of the whole Splinter Cell series.
Splinter Cell: Blacklist is a great game
and a lot of gamers will play this
game.
League of Legends

or going lone wolf in a solo queue
with four strangers, maybe even taking on the vastly challenges of the
Twisted Tree lines, or even a relaxing
match on Summoner’s Rift, League of
Legends is your game.
“League of Legends is a very
good and fun game to play, but it also
takes a lot of skill and teamwork to
help ensure your team wins,” said
Jason McGlothlin, former Baldwin student. “My favorite moment would have
to be when my team was losing and
then we rushed and made a quick
comeback and ended up winning anyway.”
League of Legends is a fastpaced, competitive online game.
Imagine mixing the challenges of any
real time strategy game with that of
the elemental game play of an RPG.
Two teams of five champions
battle in a 26 minute fight in order
to defeat the other teams. Each
Champion is unique with their own lay
out and abilities, and even their own
background story. League of Legends
has many choices of maps and game
modes as well as champions.
With constant updates and new
champions entering the playing fields
frequently, you can play it endlessly
without getting bored or tired of the
same repetitive game.
League of Legends has a great
community and with players of all age
ranges, it is easy to make new friends.

Apple Has Released The
New iPhone 5s
By Cameron Carlyle
It’s that time of the year again
when Apple announces their new
releases. This year, Apple came out
with a iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c and
iOS7, a new software update.
Apple raised the limits last year
making it even harder to come up with
a better phone than the iPhone 5.
“The iPhone 5 pre-orders have
shattered the previous record held
by the iPhone 4s and the customer
response to iPhone 5 has been phenomenal,” said Phillip Schiller, Apple’s
senior vice president of Worldwide
Marketing.
The iPhone 5s has introduced new
things that no other phone has. One of
the new things is that instead of you
putting a passcode in, they have made
a fingerprint sensor where you put your
thumb on the home button and it will
unlock the phone.
Apple has also added a new A7
chip to make the iPhone 5s run two
times faster than the previous iPhones.
Apple has also just released the new
iOS7 update that has allowed the
iPhone to be simple to use, makes it
easier to multitask, and fun to use.
“I like the multitasking because
it’s easier to go from app to app and
I can get more done,” said Zachary
Lundeen.
Apple has also increased the
camera by adding a larger sensor. The
advantage of the larger sensor has
added more megapixels which makes
the quality of the picture better.
“I think that the new sensor has
made the picture quality even better
than before,” said Casey Alford.
The iPhone 5s also comes in three
colors: space gray, gold, and silver. It
is priced at $199 at any Apple store.
Call of Duty Ghost Will
Be On Sale Soon
By Justin Sexton
It’s time for another addition to the
Call of Duty series. Call of Duty Ghost
comes out November 5th, 2013. This
game is a whole new beginning for Call
of Duty.
Infinity Ward, the makers of the
Modern Warfare games, are back and
better than ever. They are introducing
“Ghost”. Whether you’re a PlayStation
fan or an Xbox fan, you should be looking forward to this game.
“I can’t wait for this game to come
out. Ever since I have heard of this game
I have been counting down the days,”
said Aaron Stegall. “I’m looking forward
to the better graphics and dynamics in
the maps.”
There are many things to look forward to in this game. Out of all the new
changes to the game, one of the biggest
changes is the dynamics. Map dynamics are things that transform and change
the map. The players can block paths,
knock down buildings, and even make
new paths to places. The player now has
the ability to make the map their own.
“The thing that I am most looking
forward to is the better graphics,” said
Jamie Hill. “Call of Duty Ghost looks like
a fun and exciting game.”
Another thing to look forward to is
the graphics. The makers of the game
have improved the graphics tremendously. The graphics are now more
realistic and lively. Instead of looking
like you’re playing a game it looks like
real people.
If you’re a fan of gaming then you
already know to get this game. Be
counting down the days for its release
because you don’t want to be the only
one without it.

Tire Fryin Hotrods
Ole Blue
By Trent Shaffer
By Allen Taylor
Have you ever had the desire to
restore an old tire fryin hot rod? A
Baldwin senior, Brett Causey, is living the dream with his 1967 step side
Chevy.
A lot of people restoring cars do it
for something special.
“My uncle has always restored
cars and has been teaching me to
restore this one,” said Brett.
When people restore cars, it does
not take a few weeks or months.
“The step side will take 14 months,
maybe a year if I hurry,” said Brett.
Restored cars always mean a lot to
the person when it is done, and some
people will never get rid of them.
“I’m going to pass it on to my kids,”
said Brett.
It is very unique for a high school
Baldwin senior Dustin Knowles has
been rebuilding a 1987 Chevrolet 1500.
It has been a three year project.
The truck has a built 350 with
35x12.50 inch tires. The truck is jacked
up seven inches but he plans on making it eleven soon.
It’s a blue single cab automatic and
4x4 with front and rear lockers. Dustin
also built the transmission.
“You’ll hear it when I turn it over,”
Dustin said. “I got Flowmasters exhaust
on it.”
Sorry to hear it only gets 8 miles to
the gallon.
“I’m tired of messing with it but I
want it done,” said Dustin.

For Many Reasons,
Diesel Is The Way To Go
By Dustin Knowles
The new thing that everybody
wants is a diesel truck, whether it’s a
Duramax, Powerstroke, or Cummins.
Diesel trucks are better than gas
powered trucks in pretty much every
way. They’re faster, better on gas, and
last longer. Not only are they fast stock,
with a little bit of work they’re superfast.
The most inexpensive way to make
a diesel truck fast is to buy a power
programmer. The power programmer
allows one to adjust the settings on the
trucks main computer. Power programmers can be adjusted for performance
or gas mileage.
Another inexpensive way to make
a diesel fast and increase the gas mileage at the same time is to replace the
stock exhaust with a four or five inch
exhaust. Bigger pipes mean more air
flow, not to mention better sound.
Normally, when someone is going
to buy a gas powered truck, anything
over 200,000 miles isn’t a good thing.
Diesel trucks can go well over 300,000
miles if they’re taken care of. Diesel is
the way to go.

He also said he’s thinking about
selling it, so if you like the truck give
him a holler!
Texting and Driving Is
Now Illegal
By Amber Thomas and Dylan Lowens
On October 1st 2013, a very important new law took effect in the State
of Florida. It is now officially illegal to
text and drive, resulting in a secondary
offense. The first violation is a $30 fine
plus court costs, the second violation
within five years results in a $60 fine
and adds three points to your driver’s
license.
You are now not allowed to manually type multiple letters, numbers,
symbols, or other characters into
your phone or other wireless devices.
Texting is allowed at stop lights and
during traffic jams.
Since the new law is a secondary
offense, it means that police officers
have to pull you over for a primary
offense such as speeding or running
a stop sign before they can write you
a ticket for texting and driving. Police
cannot ask you to hand your phone
over to ask you if you have been texting
and driving unless there has been a
personal injury or death.

Senior Courtyard Should Baldwin Needs A 4-H
Be For Seniors Only
Club
By Megan Stapp
For years the courtyard at the front
of Baldwin’s campus has been reserved
for seniors. The lunch tables have a
magnificent view of Baldwin’s duck
pond, the trees provide needed shade
from Florida weather, and the area is
secluded from the rest of the school.
Seniors wait for six years to have
the privilege of their own courtyard, to
separate themselves from the rest of
the students. However, this privilege
is now being shared with underclass
students.
Indian Trails believes this “open”
courtyard policy should be changed—
seniors deserve a courtyard of their
own.
Since there are three lunch periods, and seniors have last lunch, the
area fenced in for lunch is ruined by
the two prior lunch periods. Trash is
left on the ground, sauce is spilled on
benches, and food is left to be stepped
on. The immaturity of middle school
students is evident as they run around
and scream, disturbing classes in the
library, especially when “responsible”
students tap on the windows.
Seniors express their distaste
through words and Indian Trails has
chosen to speak out. The senior courtyard should be locked up until last lunch.
Although sophomores and juniors have
lunch with the upperclassmen, it is a
compromise appealing to seniors.
Having responsibility enough to
clean a mess, even outside, is a task
most younger students haven’t shown
they are capable of. The courtyard is a
privilege and underclassmen, including
middle school, have proven they are
too immature to be rewarded.
Let’s Remember Good
Sportsmanship
By Payten McCall
The Indian Trails Newspaper Staff
believes that sportsmanship should be
a priority on teams within the district.
Sportsmanship should be represented
not only by Indians, but from other high
schools, too!
As students here, we know how
hard it is to overcome a loss on any
sports team. Whether it’s football, volleyball, or any sport that you are com-
passionate about – We all know.
Indian Trails also believes that winning is not everything. Yes, it is a typical
saying that almost every coach uses,
but it is true. When you learn to be a
team, you will realize that you are a
family. By saying that, sportsmanship
doesn’t always involve other teams, but
ourselves.
Sportsmanship means absolutely
everything as a team and here at
Baldwin, we are proud to be Indians.
Baldwin Needs More
Electives…
By Daniel Wellhausen
While students at other schools are
taking electives like French, Latin, and
Photography, Baldwin students have
only about ten choices for electives.
This causes students to be in classes
they might not enjoy, find beneficial,
or may be overcrowded. Students at
Baldwin feel they are being cheated by
the few electives that are offered. Why
does Baldwin not have many electives?
“Proportionately we do have as
many electives as other schools, but
in real numbers we may not,” said Mr.
Tuccillo, Curriculum Director. “Teaching
positions are allocated based on student population. Schools with more
students have more teachers and vice
versa. So the more students a school
has the more classes, and consequently the more electives they are
able to offer. We do strive however, to
offer a variety of classes to both meet
student needs and engage them during their elective periods. We review
our elective class offerings every year
to make sure that our electives are
classes that students want and classes
that can benefit them long-term or
spark a creative interest, which is why
we always offer a wonderful class
named “Journalism”!The Indian Trails
Staff believes that Baldwin needs more
electives that are very useful, like
Home Economics. We also believe
Baldwin needs more enjoyable electives like French or Latin instead of just
Spanish.
It would be great if Baldwin had
more electives that were worthwhile
and entertaining like Drivers Ed. and
Wood Shop. Because some students
don’t find Art, Band, Chorus, Drama,
and the other electives Baldwin provides beneficial or enjoyable, Baldwin
should add more electives for their
students.
By John Moncrief
Indian Trails believes that many
Baldwin students would join a 4-H Club
if it were offered at the school.
The 4-H Clover symbolizes four
actions which 4-H members try to
accomplish. The four H s’ stand four
Head, Hands, Heart, Health, as it is in
the pledge: “I Pledge My Head to clearer
thinking, My Heart to greater loyalty, My
Hands to larger service and My Health to
better living for my Club my Community
my Country and my World.”
4-H members thrive through the
health and safety education and expe-
riences they receive through 4-H programming. In fact, young people in 4-H
have been shown to have significantly
lower drug, alcohol and cigarette use
than their peers. They have also been
shown to be 2 to 3 times more likely to
exercise and be physically active.
Indian Trails thinks that Baldwin
needs a 4-H Club because many students are interested. The 4-H Club would
give students a learning experience on
how to give and help and not expect to
get anything in return but the knowledge
and learning experience. The 4-H Club
also encourages students to not use
drugs, alcohol, and tobacco products.
Baldwin Doesn’t Need
The New Absence Rule
By Nicholas Beck
We have a new rule in Baldwin
this year that states if you are absent
for five days or more in a semester
you have to take a pass or fail test that
can affect your grade quite a bit. The
reason behind this rule is understandable. They’re just trying to encourage
students not to miss school days. But
is this really fair?
Typically when students miss a
day of school, it isn’t because they’re
skipping. (Though sometimes it is…)
Instead, the students might have something going on that causes them to miss
school. Sometimes it is family matters,
family reunions, health issues, etc….
Rarely are students missing five days
of school for the sake of missing class.
Also, if students skip a class, they
usually don’t care about that class. They
do not need a test to determine if they
will pass or fail the class. Their effort
will show by the end of the semester
when they get their report card. If they
do not care about the class, they will fail
regardless.
The Indian Trails Staff believes that
we shouldn’t have this absence policy.
If a student misses five or more days for
whatever reason, and they care about
the class and didn’t want to miss, they
will make up for those missed days
and keep their grade up. On the other
hand, if he or she misses five days for
whatever reason and doesn’t care at
all, you’ll see it in their grade. A pass/
fail test simply is not needed to determine this.

BALDWIN AROUND THE WORLD
Senior From Haiti Has
To Work Extra Hard
By Breion Smith
Did you know that one of Baldwin’s
seniors is from another country? His
name is Nahum Michelle and he was
born in Haiti.
He moved to America only 5
months ago. Not only does he have
to learn math, science and history, but
Nahum also has to learn the English
language.
“I can speak it but not very well,”
said Nahum.
Being from Haiti, Nahum originally
spoke French so he has to work extra
hard to understand his teachers and
class mates.
“My favorite subject is math,” said
Nahum.
Even though Nahum is from Haiti
he still enjoys everything most teenagers do. Nahum enjoys reading and
listening to music in his free time, and
he also enjoys playing soccer, and his
Nahum Michelle
favorite food is pizza.
Moving to a new country can be
tough.
“I do miss my home, and if I could
I would like to go back,” said Nahum.
By Amber Tryba
You know him as one of Baldwin’s
foreign language teachers. Mr.
Candelaria is a well known teacher, and
most of his students know that he was
not born in America. Mr. Candelaria
was born in Puerto Rico.
Mr. Candelaria moved to America
sixteen years ago. When this happened, Mr. Candelaria had many new
things to learn.
“I could understand English but I
couldn’t speak,” said Mr. Candelaria.
Over time, he did learn the language.
Mr. Candelaria has come to enjoy
many things most Americans do, his
favorite would be sports.
“My favorite sports are basketball
and football,” he said.
Even though Mr. Candelaria enjoys
living in America, he does miss his
home back in Puerto Rico.
“In Puerto Rico, it wasn’t as secluded. You could actually walk into someone else’s home as if was your own,”
said Mr. Candelaria. “Everyone in the
neighborhood was like a huge family.”
Mr. Candelaria
The thing about his home country
he loved the most was the food.
“My favorite meal was rice with red
kidney beans and pigs feet,” he said.
Even with the fun and excitement
living in his home country can bring,
Mr. Candelaria still enjoys living here
in America and working at Baldwin
Middle-Senior High School, teaching
students the wonders of a new language and culture.

Senior Misses The
Puerto Rican Beaches
By Amber Tryba
A member of the Senior Class is
from Puerto Rico. He lived there for
eleven years, most of his life. According
to him, the main differences between
the US and his homeland are the language, perspective, multiple varieties of
ethnicity, population, and the activities.
“My favorite part about the U.S.
is that it is multicultural,” said Daniel
Echevarria, a Baldwin senior, “a piece
of everything in the world. That way I
can still feel my nationality is not far.”
He misses his home sometimes.
Daniel thinks of things he left behind
like friends and family. He already
knew English when he started pre-k so
it wasn’t that hard for him to learn. So
far he has not gone to any other country but he has been to Maryland, and
he’s returned to Puerto Rico for visits.
His favorite part of Puerto Rico is the
beaches.
“Puerto Rican beaches are so much
better than US beaches,” said Daniel.

He likes many things about

including him loves.
“I miss my home every once in a

English is the official language of
Nigeria, so it was not difficult for him to

He has lived in two other countries
besides Nigeria and America. Those
countries are Belgium, where he went

BALDWIN BLESSINGS
Baldwin Students
Join “See You At The
Pole” National Prayer
Celebration
By Kayla Baker
On the fourth Wednesday in
September, students gathered to pray
for those in the community. Although
it was slightly raining, loyal Christian
students and teachers still gathered to
worship early into the morning.
On this day, students and teachers across the country get together
at their school’s flagpole to celebrate,
remember, and encourage the spread
of Christianity.
“We stood in a circle and took turns
praying for the school, teachers, and
each other,” said Micah Drum.
Micah is currently in 10th grade
and has been in Bible Club for 5 years,
since he first came to Baldwin in 6th
grade. You do not need to belong to
Bible Club to attend activities such as
this one.
“The experience was great. Seeing
Christians willing to take time out of
their morning to come pray for the
school is encouraging,” said Micah. “If
anybody would like to join Bible Club,
we meet the last Friday of every month;
we’d love to have you. There’s also a
prayer group in the morning that meets
at 6:50 every morning in Mrs. Ashley’s
room.”
Everyone’s encouraged to come
and join in the worship that happens
every morning and anyone of any age
or grade is welcome.
Everyone Is Welcome
At Baldwin’s Morning
Worship
By Kayla Stokes
“I absolutely love Morning Worship.
It plays a huge role in my life here at
Baldwin,” said Shianne Schuchart. “I
can form relationships with people who
surround me and I’m thankful for that
opportunity.”
Morning Worship is a very important part of Baldwin where students can
learn and spread God’s word. Regular
participants include Emily Graham,
Bethany Graham, Kayla Stokes,
Shianne Schuchart, and Micah Drumm,
although everyone is welcome. Every
morning these students go to Mrs.
Ashley’s room around 7:00 for daily
Bible study.
“In Morning Worship, we explain a
meaning behind a verse,” said Shianne
Schuchart. “Each day it’s important to
get the word in before starting that day.
We each make a circle, hold hands,
and pray.”
A few changes have happened
with Morning Worship this year, which
include replacing the former leader
Mrs. Wright with Micah Drum. Micah is
currently a sophomore at Baldwin.
“Micah Drum leads Morning
Worship. He is an excellent leader and
I look up to him for word of advice,” said
Shianne Schuchart.
In the mornings, Micah teaches the
members a new verse that he chooses
from his own Bible study. He gives out
encouraging messages to everyone
to carry with them throughout the day.
After preaching the message, Micah
asks if there are any prayer requests
and then leads the group in prayer.
Morning Worship is open to everyone, from 6th grade to 12th, and even
teachers and staff. If you would like to
attend, be in room 117 by 7:00am. It is
held every school day.

Sophomore’s Mission
Trip Was Very
Successful
By Jarred Hostler
Mission trips are truly a good thing
to do because they help spread the
word of Christ and they show much
love.
Micah Drum, a sophomore at
Baldwin Middle Senior High, went on
a mission trip to Nicaragua, Minagua
with First Baptist Church of Baldwin.
He went on August 3-10. His goal was
to lead others to Christ and spread the
gospel.
While he was there he helped a
lot of people. It was difficult to communicate with the people so he had a
translator.
“I met tons of new people, including my translator who was really cool,”
said Micah.
When they got to Nicaragua, there
was a problem with the hotel rooms
and he had to share a room with seven
other people.
“The only problems we had were
Micah Drum
overcrowded hotels, seven other people and I had to share a room,” he said.
Micah had a great time spreading
the word of love and the word of God.
He hopes to go again.
No More ‘Under God’ in
the Pledge?
By Lauren Braddock
Every morning around the United
States when the bell rings for classes to
begin, the Pledge of Allegiance comes
over the intercom. But in the State of
Massachusetts, the Pledge as we know
it may come to an end.
An unidentified family of a student
in suburban Boston wants to eliminate
‘Under God’ in the Pledge of Allegiance.
It is going to be argued under the Equal
Rights Amendment of the Massachusetts
Constitution. Other attempts have been
turned down in federal court because
‘Under God’ was an unconstitutional
violation of the separation of church and
state.
“I would be disappointed if this
happened at my school. The Pledge of
Allegiance has always been said with
‘Under God’ in it,” said Taylor Pigney, a
junior at Baldwin. “I agree with not bringing religion in public schools, but this has
been said for as long as I can remember
and no one has the right to take it away.”
“I would be upset, not because
the religious factors or implications,
but because it is part of a document
that is very valuable,” said teacher Ms.
Davidson.

A Summer on the
Mission Field
By Emily Graham
For many students, summer is a
time to relax, hang out with friends, or
go on vacation and for many students
that is exactly what they did. There are
also some students at Baldwin MiddleSenior High School who spent the summer on mission trips. Those students
spent their time either volunteering at
their churches or away from home on
the mission field.
One of these students is Stefan
Arredondo. Stefan spent his summer in
Longview, Texas volunteering his time
in a homeless shelter as a summer
intern. Stefan left for his trip the day
after school released and did not return
home until three days before school
started back up. Stefan spent the summer helping kids between the ages of 5
to 12 learn about Jesus.
“The best part of the experience
was showing these kids God’s love
and stability and attention that they had
never seen before,” said Stefan. “It was
amazing to see them be able to be kids
again while teaching them about Christ.”
Stefan’s mission trip was way more
than just volunteering at the shelter. He
actually was able to see his work go to
good use through the lives that are forever changed.
“The best day from camp was the
Stefan Arredondo
day two kids accepted Christ,” said
Stefan.
Stefan’s life was changed this summer in a way that everyone can clearly
see. He learned much from his trip
about people.
“This summer changed me by
showing me how to love in a new way. I
got to love people I had just met with a
love only God could give,” said Stefan.
Stefan is still considering going
back next summer to see more lives
changed depending on what God will
have him to do.

BULLYING AT BALDWIN
Baldwin High School
Baldwin Takes Bullying What is Bullying?
Seriously
By Brooke Merritt
By Cynthia Marrero
Has bullying ever been an issue to
you?
Here at Baldwin bullying is taken
seriously. There are so many consequences and steps taken when a bullying case is brought up.
Did you know that there is a Bullying
/ Harassment form? If you are bullied,
you may receive this form from the front
office. You fill it out and return it to the
principal. After the principal receives
your form, an open investigation will
begin.
“Teenagers saying unkind things is
nothing new. Students at Baldwin are
very polite. Sometimes an argument
is escalated. If it was said online, or
through text, we are going to assume
they meant what they said,” said Mrs.
Harter, the Assistant Principal.
According to the Student Code of
Conduct, “In addition, with the respect
to bullying, the jurisdiction of the Board
may extend to data or computer soft-
ware accessed at a non-school-related
location, activity, function, or program,
or to technology or an electronic device
that is not owned, leased, or used by
the Duval County Public Schools”
There are serious consequences
given to students at Baldwin who are
caught bullying.
“They will be charged with a 3.28
(Bullying / Cyberbullying) with the
placement of the child into alternative
school for 45 days, and police action
depending on the evidence,” said Mr.
Shields.
“One thing I try to do with the
students is to have them one on one
without an audience to try to talk things
out,” said Mrs. Harter.
“Don’t say anything in text, word,
or deed that you wouldn’t be able to
repeat in front of your mother. Be kind
to one another,” said Mrs.Harter.
If you are ever bullied, you now
know where and what to do. Let’s keep
our school a fun and safe learning environment for ourselves and others.
Stop the Bullying
By Dimitri Jordan
Bullying is a problem that can happen both in school and in the neighborhood. Bullying in schools is a problem
that can have negative consequences
for the school and the students. Bullying
can also have negative consequences
that will affect someone in their future,
both for students who bully and for their
victims. Most incidents of bullying and
the events that occur with bullying take
place wherever schooling environments
exist.
“Bullying is when someone physically or verbally abuses someone on a
daily basis,” said Jessica Bass, former
Baldwin High School student.
Bullying can be seen as taunting,
threatening, and teasing. These actions
are commonly started by a student
against another student.
“It’s important to stop bullying because doing that to people is
something they are going to regret in
their future, not to mention the person
who is being bullied will constantly
put themselves down, and will eventually become depressed and feel alone,”
said Jessica Bass.
Whether the bullying is direct or
indirect, the key concept of bullying is
that it should be stopped. Bullying is no
laughing matter, the fact is that for every
one bully there is possibly one or more
children who feel alone, depressed or
even to scared to go to school.
“I would say to stay strong, and
that you’re not alone, you’re never
alone,” said Jessica Bass.
For those of you reading this, know
you’re not alone. There are others out
there who are going through the same
thing you’re going through. Reach out
and talk to someone, vent and let it out.
Tell your parents, or even your teachers. They will know how to help. Stay
strong and keep your head up.
Many people question the topic
of bullying. For example, what kinds
of bullying is there? Where does it
happen? How can you stop it? What
causes students/kids to want to do this
to others? Everyone knows bullying has
been an issue all around the world, but
how does this affect kids? What actually
goes on when someone gets bullied?
The types of bullying can be from
verbal to physical, to sexual abuse.
Out of all of these, verbal would probably be the most common, and it would
probably lead up to physical abuse.
Verbal abuse occurs when people/kids
use name calling to one another, also
known as “trash talking.”
When people use verbal abuse,
they occasionally joke around about it,
but the people who say the offensive
verbal joke don’t understand how that
other person will take it.
When someone is a convict of
physical abuse, it means their objective
was to injure the suspect.
Sexual abuse is when another person gets touched or talked to inappropriately. Many of these kinds of bullying
happen at schools with students.
Most students that see this kind of
abuse happening never report what is
going on. Reporting what you see happening around you is one of the best
things you can do, even if someone
threatens you not to say anything.
Usually, the reason kids feel the
need to bully others is that they feel
jealous, threatened, want to cause
attention to themselves, and want to
be looked up to in the wrong way.
Some bullies are bullied by others and
feel the need to threaten other people.
Students/kids that are bullies usually
make bad grades, have a bad home
life, or crave attention that they can’t get
from other people.
Many children around the world
take bullying hard. Some kids go home
and take their pain out on themselves;
others
don’t want to go to school
because they’re afraid. Their emotions
change also, from normal to dreary.
The way to overcome anyone’s
problem with bullying is for them to
stand up for themselves, and become
the bigger and better person than the
bully. One can feel sorry for the bully
that they act the way they do, and
pray for them that they would one day
change their ways.
What To Do If You’re
Cyberbullied
By Kayla Baker and Michaela Shafer
Cyberbullying has increasingly
become a large problem in the United
States. Over 1 million students are
bullied each week and are burdened
with the heavy, exhausting weight
that is cyberbullying. In a national
poll, over 70% of 2500 kids say they
knew who was bullying them.
Although cyberbullying is not a
monumental problem at Baldwin,
there are still some cases. For example, a twitter page was made by an
anonymous source and posted many
hurtful things about people who go
to Baldwin. The administrators took
care of it immediately, but the students who were named on it were
very upset.
“It just happened, I didn’t do anything,” said Presley Lee. “I felt really
mad and hurt.”
“If you think you are being cyberbullied, make sure you print off a copy
of anything being sent to you,” said
Officer Millen, Baldwin’s SRO. “We’ll
follow through on any complaint.”
If this is happening to you, contact
a teacher, an adult, or a guidance
counselor. You will not get in trouble
and the situation will be taken care of
by the school.
Let’s put a stop to cyberbullying.

Inspiring Student Set To Mr. C Is Inspired to
Graduate Early
Lose Weight
By Madison Nipper
By Jessica Spano
Can you imagine one year less of
high school? Junior Cole Smith is graduating early while working two jobs.
Cole is taking English 3, U.S. History,
World History and French 2 online, as
well as all the classes he is taking at
Baldwin.
“I decided to graduate early when
I noticed I only needed a couple of
credits to graduate one year early,”
said Cole.
Cole is taking all his classes on
FLVS. He also took H.O.P.E before the
summer. Cole is an overachiever with
him working two jobs.
“Currently I work at Rue 21 in
Oakleaf Town Center as well as
Walgreens,” said Cole.
There is no room for free time.
He is either always working or doing
school work. Cole is currently the only
eleventh grader who is graduating
early.

Losing weight is a struggle for
most Americans, but one Baldwin
Indian has embraced that struggle
and is winning the war against his
extra pounds.
“You need to lose that stomach,” said a friend to Mr. Cerrato,
one of Baldwin’s substitutes, who
is affectionately known as Mr. C.
Mr. C has had a ton of motivation to lose weight, and so far he
has lost 75 pounds.
“March of 2012, I couldn’t tie
my shoes. That was my lowest
point,” said Mr. C.
To lose all this weight, Mr. C
ate three meals a day, he went
to a dietitian who showed him the
right and wrong things to eat, he
exercised, and he drank tons of
water.
Mr. C set the bar high. A goal
of losing ten pounds in 30 days is a
tough goal. But he didn’t lose any
weight during his first 5 months.
“You don’t know how much I
wanted to quit,” he said.
But he didn’t give up. Instead,
it made him more motivated to
lose his extra weight.
Having
two
inspirations
pushed Mr. C. One of those inspirations was a lady who swam from
Cuba to Key West at 60 years old.
A man who is 75 but looks as if he
is in his 40s is who pushed Mr. C
to try his hardest and never give
up.
Mr. C has a personal trainer
at NAS Jax who helps with the
weight loss. One of his goals was
to run a 5K, which he ran after he
lost 40 pounds.
“I’m not done yet,” said Mr. C.

any breaks,” said Cole.
Cole has a plan and knows what he
wants to do. He plans to start at FSCJ
then attend U.F. He wants to obtain
his Bachelors in Nursing with a minor
in American Sign Language. Later he
wants to become a pediatric doctor.
Life of a Pageant Girl
By Heather Daniels
The life of a pageant girl is full of
glitz and glamour. They wear beautiful gowns, crowns, and look like they
should be a princess. Most of the time
they even feel like they are a real life
princess. This is how Duneshka Moran
feels every time she gets the opportunity to compete in a pageant.
Duneshka recently had the opportunity to compete in a pageant where
she was named Miss Independence
Junior Teen. Not only did she have the
honor to be named Miss Independence
Junior Teen, she also received money
and tickets for a trip to Disney. Along
with all these wonderful things she
will have the opportunity to attend the
national pageant, Miss American Junior
Teen, and compete in her age group
during the week of Thanksgiving in
Orlando. These pageants try to encourage girls to set and achieve high goals.
She began competing in pageants
Duneshka Moran
when she was six years old. Duneshka
loves wearing the beautiful gowns and
how for one night she can feel like a
princess. However, she did not start
pageants just for the gowns.
“I began competing in pageants
to be more confident in myself and to
learn how to be more like a lady,” said
Duneshka.
The feeling of being a princess is
not the only rewarding thing that one
can get out of pageants.
“You can win money, a car, or even
Mr. C before his weight loss.
Mr. C after losing 75 pounds.
a trip,” Duneshka said. “It all depends
on what pageant you win.”
Although these things are great,
Duneshka feels that the most rewarding thing is that it is a time for not
only her, but also for her family to be
involved. Not only that, but being a
pageant girl is fun.

THIS AND THAT
So you want to be a welder?
By Ian Suggs
So you’re thinking of being a welder?
Welders are the bosses of the job site.
The welder is such a diverse worker in
the work field. Welders are known for
getting the job done and done right the
first time.
If you want to be a welder, you need
to be prepared to work in some of the
harshest environments, like underneath
48 inch pipe in a 20 ft. ditch. Or what
about hanging off a 150 ft. man lift by
your toenails, with the wind blowing you
back and forth while staying completely
still?
Being a welder has its privileges.
You get paid anywhere from $50 to $250
an hour.
Welders have to be skilled in every
position, all the way from 1G to 6G.
Those “G’s” are some of the different
positions that the pipe can be welded
in. To be a welder, you also have to be
an expert at all the different electrode
selections. There are over 100 types of
electrodes, there are 6010, 6011, 7018,
8018, 9018, and those are just a few. To
be a true welder you need to know exactly the difference between each electrode.
An electrode is the metal rod you see
welders using to fill in the gap or crack,
etc. The electrode will always have some
type of flux on the rod. This flux helps
shield the weld from the outside impurities.
The welder is the beast of the jobsite. If the welder isn’t there, the job isn’t
getting done.
“It’s 5 o’clock! Do you know where
your weld puddle is?” said Michael
Suggs, owner of M.S. Mobile Welding.
The Best Horror Movies
For Halloween
By Austin Pellicer
Halloween is today, so a lot of horror
movies are on TV. Here is a list of some
of the best ones to watch this time of the
year.
The first one is of course the
Halloween series. It is about a man named
Michal Myers who attacks innocent people
every October 31st. Then when he is
defeated he disappears into thin air.
Another great one is the Nightmare
on Elm Street series. It is about a man
named Freddy Krueger, a psychopath
who murders people in their dreams. He
has a claw for a hand and wears a striped
sweater. He is not someone to anger, so
watch out.
Another good series is the Child’s
Play series. It’s about a murderer who is
shot, but to survive he fuses his soul into
a doll. Then a woman buys the possessed
doll for her son. It gets scary after that.
So the moral of the story is you better be
careful who you buy dolls from or else. It
can be very bad.
And last but not least is Friday the
13th. It is about a boy with down syndrome
who drowns in a lake because the kids
were too mean to help. So every Friday
the 13th he comes back from the dead to
wreak havoc on the camp where he died,
wielding a machete and wearing a hockey
mask. It’s the perfect slasher film for fans
of gory movies.
So if you are looking for some scary
movies, try these. But be careful, they’re
scary!

Senior Is Passionate
About Skating
By Brandon Wilson
Local skateboarder Samuel Meyers
has been skating for over 4 years and
is now going on his 5th. He’s very passionate about skating
“To me, it’s the most creative outlet
because it’s a piece of wood on wheels,
it’s the way the board flips and how the
gravity works with it,” said Sam.
He’s become a pretty accomplished
skater over the 4 years of practicing
and he’s landed some of the most difficult tricks.
“The hardest trick I’ve ever landed
would probably have to be a laser flip.
It took me a whole day to finally land it
clean. But the hardest trick in my opinion is a bigger double flip,” said Sam.
Not only has he landed difficult
tricks, but he’s been to many different
skate parks.
“If I didn’t forget any, it would have
to be 17. Some of them were Kona,
Sam Meyers
Midtown, Vans, Monument, Tulley, and
Orange Park,” said Sam.
Are you a skater? Go skate with
Samuel Meyers.
Jordans vs LeBrons
By Tyecia Shingles
Students usually have one brand
of shoe that they like more than all
other brands. Some students prefer
Jordans for different reasons.
“I’ve always liked them better,”
said Jessica Grey.
“They look better and they are
clean,” said Jason Qardner.
“They look better,” said Willie
Johnson.
On the other hand, there are students that prefer LeBrons.
“I prefer LeBron’s, because they’re
better. They have more color varieties and easier shoe sizes, and plus,
they’re more comfortable,” said Alexus
Monroe.
“They don’t crease,” said Andrew
Seymour.
“They have different types of
shoes, not the same ones,” said Terry
Stripting.
Jordans and LeBrons are both
great shoes. Which one would you
rather wear?

Wednesday Night Is
Chubby’s Night
By Makayla Anderson
Wednesday nights are not just
regular nights for some Baldwin students. It’s the one night each week
that a group of people who go to
Baldwin and Baldwin graduates go
and hang out at Chubby’s.
Chubby’s is located on Chaffee.
Baldwin graduates and Baldwin students go to hang out with friends,
eat, and listen to people sing karaoke
while making fools of themselves;
however they are being themselves
which is the best part.
If you ever go there, you will
notice most of the time they all hang
out in the parking lot while listening to
their own music.
Some people may call this group
“the crazy bunch”, but they are a
bunch who don’t like each other one
minute and then get over it in minutes and still be friends in the end.
They have all had their bumps in the
road but they all understand each
other and will always be there for
one another. They use these nights
to hang outside of school and just
have fun.
“I love to hang out with all my
close friends,” said Autumn Catman.
“There are certain things that
people enjoy about hanging out up at
Chubby’s,” said Roderick Gordon. “I
know that I like going up there due to
the fact that we’re all friends, it’s loud,
and very active.”
“I like watching people make fools
of themselves trying to sing,” Ashlyn
Aderhold said.
Next Wednesday night, join the
Baldwin students and have a good
time at Chubby’s.

Who Is Miss Baldwin?
By Amber Thomas
Have you heard of the new Miss
Baldwin, Aston Perry? Attending
Baldwin since 9th grade, Aston has
been very active in our school, but
being Miss Baldwin is a very different
experience for her.
“I honestly did not think I was well
suited to be Miss Baldwin. However,
Mrs. Sherwood said that we needed a
good representative for our school and
I seemed to fit the position well,” said
Aston.
Being in the AP Honors Program
and NHS, along with frequent volunteering, qualified her to represent the
Senior Class of 2014 as Miss Baldwin.
Aston’s outstanding academics are
not the only reasons why she was chosen for this position. She also has been
involved in many sports throughout her
high school experience.
“I’ve been on the Swim/Dive Team,
Cross Country Team, Tennis Team,
and the Volleyball Team,” said Aston.
“This year I plan on playing soccer, flag
football, and running track to continue
being active.”
Aston’s in-school activities are not
the only things she enjoys doing in her
free time. Along with doing gymnastics
for 14 years, Aston has been working
at Gymnastics Unlimited for almost one
year.
“I absolutely love my job and the
girls I coach,” said Aston.
Aston Perry
After high school, Aston plans on
attending FSU and joining the ROTC
program.
“I want to go into the Air Force,
travel, and become an agent in the
AFOSI,” said Aston.
She plans on happily representing the Senior Class for the rest of the
school year and wishes the best of luck
to the future Miss Baldwin.

The Riverside Arts
Anachronism Learns
Market Is A Great Place
How To Live In The Past
To Spend A Saturday
By Sara Moulds
By Nicholas Beck
Under the Fuller Warren Bridge
downtown you might hear loud music
and a bustling crowd of people. It’s
the Riverside Arts Market and it goes
on every Saturday from March to
December.
The Riverside Arts Market is a fun
and exciting event to attend. There
you can buy fresh produce, bread and
pastries, and a whole variety of delicious food from various vendors. Or
you can also sit down and enjoy a live
performance of a talented local singer
or music group. After all this you can
take a walk around and look at paintings and photographs of artists from
around Florida. There is plenty to do
under the bridge for anyone.
The Riverside Arts Market all
began when Dr. Wayne Wood saw
how other cities used old bridges as
existing coverings for markets. He
noticed what a good idea it is for an
outdoor yet weather proof market. The
Fuller Warren Bridge provided a perfect place for a similar project. The
first year the market opened was a
success. And since then, it has been
attracting thousands of people every
Saturday.
If you want to visit, there are plenty
of places to park. Right next to it is a
parking deck and several parking lots.
You can also park near the Landing
downtown and take an enjoyable walk
to the market by the river. The market
is busiest around noon and begins to
close late afternoon. The best time to
go is in the morning.
Come to the Arts Market and enjoy
the festivities by the river! There’s
plenty to do and eat.
There are people out there who
love to dress up and learn as people
from long ago. Who are they? They’re
part of the SCA, or the Society of
Creative Anachronism.
The SCA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the study and
reenactment of pre sixteenth century
history and culture. What they do is
everything that was done in the time
period between 600 A.D. to 1600 A.D.
“I’ve been a part of the SCA for
fourteen years and love it,” said Jill
Legget, Duchess of Trimaris, Florida’s
Kingdom.
There are many things people do
in the SCA. They make garb (clothes),
learn how to draw illumination, make
beer and ale, cook medieval food,
write calligraphy, make ink and paper,
and the best thing of all fight.
There are three types of fighting.
Heavy, which is wearing leather and
chain and using retain sticks, the same
thing people use for furniture. Light
fighting, or in mundane (modern) terms
fencing. And then there is youth fighting, which is similar to heavy but they
use more padding and they use PVC
piping.
“We have fighter practice in 5
Points in Riverside every Sunday
and meetings on Thursday,” said Jill
Legget.
If you have any more questions,
visit www.castlemere.com for more
information or visit them at fighter practice. Vivat Trimaris!
Some Benefits Of High
Advice For 6th Graders School
By Sara Moulds
Hello 6th graders, welcome to
middle school! There’s a lot of fun
to be had but it can be confusing,
with new people, customs, and rules,
but the middle school teachers have
some advice for you.
“Simple advice, stay organized,”
said Mrs. Pellicer, the 6th and 7th
grade English teacher. “Organization
is the key to being successful.”
Yes, organization is very important. Keeping classwork and homework organized can keep you less
stressed. Organization is a skill that
can be used throughout high school
and the real world.
“Practicing opening the lock to
your locker so that books can be
taken out quicker, before and after
school,” said Mrs. Voss, the middle
school reading teacher.
Lockers are a necessity! You
need them to hold books that you
don’t need, and it’s important to practice opening the lock so you don’t
forget. You don’t want to carry everything.
“If help is needed during class,
ask for all the help that’s needed,”
said Mrs. Voss.
It’s ok to ask for help, that is
what teachers are here for. Work is
hard in the 6th grade and it’ll only get
harder, so it’s ok to ask for help.
Middle school will be fun. Make
sure you keep a positive attitude,
make lots of new friends, and have a
great year!
By Brenton Gayles
In high school, changes come
daily through academics and experience. High school’s purpose is to prepare you for college, which readies
you for life. In high school you begin
to get taken more seriously about
what you say and do. People begin to
actually listen to what you have to say
and understand you better.
High school classes teach you
things that assist what you plan
on doing, and have to do in life.
Challenges throughout each class
that high school students have push
you further every day, giving you more
experience and practice in things that
can help you later on in life.
“You have the biggest section of
campus to walk through,” said Adonte
Smith.
This is true because your classes
are spread out over a bigger portion
of the school.
A big benefit of high school is the
fact that you are closer to graduating
and going on to college. As this happens, you might look back over the
years and good times that you had in
high school.
Overall, there aren’t any extreme
changes, only a few that help you
greatly. High school itself is a preparation for a better future, so do the
best you can in order to have a great
year and be educated throughout
your life.

Syria, Should We Go To Bono’s BarBQue Has
Been A Fixture In
War?
Jacksonville Since 1949
By Kenneth McElfresh and Phillip Thach
Syria crossed Obama’s “red line”
when they used chemical weapons
to massacre their own people. Our
President said that if they crossed this
line set by our country, America would
go to war with them for the good of the
world, but is this the best decision?
Students of Baldwin had a few
things to say about the subject.
“I believe that war is the best decision,” said Chris Dunning, a senior.
“Syria has reached America’s final
straw, and we have been a land of
action for as long as anyone can
remember.”
“We should not go to war with
Syria,” said Jordan Beck, a senior.
“America should focus on the financial
problems within our great country, not
babysitting a group of dullards.”
War is usually the last resort for
any body of people, but if America were
to go to war with Syria, would we have
the military power required to take on
such a country?
“America has always been a patriotic war machine since 1776,” said Zak
Rhoden, a digital media participant.
“We have the man power for warfare
and the weaponry, but we lack the
required morale from our citizens and
government.”
Although war was promised by
the President of the U.S if Syria used
chemical weapons, there may be a
simpler, easer, and less lethal option
than warfare.
“War is not the best option for
America in its present state,” said
Karina Cassidey, a senior. “A meeting to discuss terms for an agreement
would be a much more civil way of handling our differences.”
Malinda Walker
Since 1949, Bono’s BBQ has been
cooking up some of the best barbeque
in town. Owned by Joe Adeebs, the
business has expanded tremendously
since he purchased it in 1979. He franchised the business in the Jacksonville
area and Colorado.
Before the Adeebs purchased the
business, it was named Lou Bono’s.
Lou Bono was the original owner who
began the restaurant in 1949. When
the Adeebs bought the business there
was one thing that came with the deal,
Harvey Green, one of the most wellknown meat cutters in Jacksonville.
“Everyone remembers Harvey because
Harvey remembered everyone. He was
so well-known around town that people
did write-in votes for Harvey to become
the mayor,” said Toni Daniels, who has
been with the company for 36 years.
“Harvey taught me everything I know,”
Daniels said.
He began cutting meat as a teen
for Bono’s in 1956 and developed a
reputation throughout the busiest years
in the business. His favorite quote
was “Let me get’cha before the girls
get’cha.” He recently retired in late
2011 and became the first and only
person to ever retire from Bono’s and
customers who knew him always ask
about him.
Customers expect finger licking
good barbeque when they come to
Bono’s and the customers are their biggest priority. So stop by and take a try.
