INTRODUCTION
Boxing Day Sale Introduction
The Boxing Day sale period is one of the busiest events of the year. As
with other years, the first week of the promotional period is about customers nabbing never seen
before, hot bargains at a super cheap price.
The Boxing Day promotion is set up for commencement on Saturday 26th December 2015.
This means that stores are required to have their in-store set up completed by COB 24th December
(Christmas Eve).
This year the Boxing Day flyer will be 8 pages compared to 4 pages last year.
Theme of the promotion
Over the last two years, TVC has been the key focal point of the Boxing Day
promotion. TVC has featured killer deals and serious volume drivers to attract
shoppers over the retailer clearance period.
This year will be the same however there will be an increased focused for on-line
and in-store clearance activity for slow moving lines and excess stock. The Boxing
Day sale period attracts a very large volume of shoppers across stores making it
the best time to clear overstocks and free up cash for purchases in the New Year.
Whilst killer deals and on-line clearance opportunities are the foundation of the Boxing Day period, it
is equally important for up-sale opportunities across all key lines.
Top selling products over the Q4 period generally continue to perform well during the Boxing Day
period and this year will be no different.
This Boxing Day there will be three key platforms for promoting sales across stores:
1. Shaver Shop Christmas/Boxing Day TVC- This will be the main feature of the promotion.
There will be killer deals and volume drivers advertised from Christmas day for the first week
of the promotion
2. On-Line clearance page- This will be an opportunity for Shaver Shop to promote aggressive
clearance prices across all lines that are either overstocked, deleted or slow moving. There
will be a mix on on-line only and in-store/on-line sales.
3. Boxing Day flyer- This will be for in-store only and will be 8 pages- double that of last
year. There will be a mix of brand new offers in addition to top selling volume lines
and hot Christmas products.

LAST BOXING DAY – CATEGORY PERFORMANCE
First Week (26th December 2014 – 1st January 2015)
The first week of the Boxing Day promotional period was exceptionally strong given the results over
December (pre-Christmas) were not as expected. Boxing Day TVC helped to drive immediate sales
uplift across all key categories.
The biggest sub category for growth was long term hair removal with like for like sales growth of
50%. This was almost entirely due to the Philips Lumea offer across the SC1991 Lumea IPL. Stock
was sold out within the first 48 hours of the promotion both on-line and in-store.

Over the first 7 days of the Boxing Day catalogue, all TVC lines were in the top 30 sales, showing
evidence of the importance in TVC driving volume into stores.
Interestingly though, the top sellers over the Christmas period also performed exceptionally well
including many high end, trade up products. With the success of the killer IPL deal, there were 4 IPL
products in the top 30 including the smooth skin gold at $899.
Trade up over Boxing Day continues to be of huge importance.

Over the full promotional period for December/January, the top 30 selling lines are shown below.
LFL store sales over the entire promotion were 7.6% up.
Like for like volume grew by 6.5% however margin % dropped by 4 points from 43% to 38%. This
was largely due to high volume drivers such as blades and tight margin across IPL such as Lumea.

The POS material list for Boxing Day will list what POS
material will be provided for all stores. There will be an array
of POS material to ensure that all stores are looking ready to
go for this big sales period!
Set up Christmas Eve!
To ensure your store is set up for the customer rush first thing in
the morning of Boxing Day, stores need to make sure they are
fully set up on the Christmas Eve. This ensures your sales are
maximised particularly in the morning of Boxing Day, when
crowds are out in full force to bag a bargain from what they saw
on TV!
Focus on TVC lines and call to action lines!
The key style for Boxing Day merchandising is to really focus
on the TVC and Call to Action flyer lines the front of the store.
The TVC products should be focused at the front of
store/window.
Don’t forget however other TVC lines from Christmas should
still be placed with focus at the front of store. Examples of
this are: Dafni, VS Crew Cut, Remington Nano Trimmer, and
Razor Pit etc...
Killer DEALS will bring volume!
With such a strong amount of TVC advertising over the first 5
days of the Boxing Day promotion, it is really important that
at the front of the store and throughout that we focus all on
products with high call to actions and/or value for money
for customers.
Not stopping there, stores are reminded of the importance of
add-on products and complimentary products. Shaver Guard
and add-ons are a MUST for Boxing Day!

ONLINE CLEARANCE CAMPAIGN
Last Boxing Day we recorded the biggest online sales date ever of $107K on
Boxing Day, with sales over Boxing Day week increasing +130% in sales. With
this in mind, along with our Boxing Day online communication focusing on the “As
Seen on TV” products, we will be executing online only “clearance offers” over the
Boxing Day sales period to 1) provide unique clearance options to increase sales and
2) clear through overstock or dead stock lines.
Boxing Day is the perfect period to execute an online stock clearance, as customers in
store and especially online are looking for a bargain, and it is the best time to clear
through stock to open up ordering for 2016 period.
Overview as below:




Dates: 25th December – 31st December 2015
Products: This will be targeted at overstock, obsolete and dead stock lines, to clear through
these stock lines at the critical Boxing Day sales period. A full list of the product lines to be
offered on the “Online Only Clearance Page” is included with the Boxing Day promotional
communication.
Promotion: A separate landing page on the Shaver Shop page will be created, and will
feature a home page banner with link to clearance page, to make it easy for customers to
access.
Orders: Clearance product line orders will be coordinated by National Office and sent to the
closest store of given clearance line stock.
Please note it is very important that extra staff are allocated for online order processing for the
Boxing Day sales period, especially from 26th – 29th December.

moving. To the average store, this represents approximately $6,700 in cost of goods.
Where a product is no longer available to order and stock is usually below 500 units, not much is
every really done.
This year, Shaver Shop will launch an on-line clearance page for the website. This will align with the
TPR file and will target models that are slow moving, no longer available to order or need to be
cleared to make way for a new model. The purpose of this is to assist stores in clearing inventory a
well as providing customers with bargain buys on old run out models.
This will be an opt in/out situation. A store can either choose to be a part of the clearance activity or
can decide not to. Unfortunately due to the fluidness of the initiative it is 100% in or 100% out for all
stores. Any store who does not wish to be a part of the clearance page can advise the marketing
department of their wish to do so.
The prices and products will be regularly updated to stores and will be highlighted on the monthly
TPR file, outlining which products have been chosen for on-line.
Stores are encouraged to utilise Boxing Day in-store to promote clearance lines and old stock run
outs. It is the perfect opportunity for stores to clean up their inventory.
