Urbane Addresses in La Jolla Helix Electric Inc C onstructors Seahaus is the first new condominium project built in La Jolla in more than 20 years. The upscale Seahaus offers residents 138 units in 13 buildings with 37 floor plans, ranging in size from approximately 700 to 2,200 square feet. Two-story town homes, large flats, luxury single-level oceanview condos, row homes and loft studios will be offered in five distinct product lines. A 5,700-squarefoot retail center, a community meeting center and recreational amenities also are part of the plans. Helix Electric is providing a complete design/ build electrical system. The scope of work includes a fire alarm system and pre-wiring for telephone, data, cable and security systems. In addition, the company will provide light fixtures, soundproofing, fireproofing, and power to landscape irrigation and pool equipment. Touro University Phases I, II, III, Henderson, NV. THE HEALING TOUCH IN HIGHER EDUCATION E ngineers Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Henderson, NV, campus was designed and built to simulate an educational environment that complements the training needs of students in pursuit of their Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree. Phase I encompassed the building of a new training facility where pre-med students now study and perform procedures on campus in a realistic learning environment. With the completion of Phase II, the Medical Education Research Institute of Nevada provides another facility for hands-on training. The Phase III expansion provides nursing school students a place to learn in a simulated hospital environment. Helix Electric was contracted to perform design/build services, with scope of work including switch gear, light fixtures, fire alarm, telephone/data raceway, television raceway and two generator back-ups. The Helix team conducted extensive pre-planning, and the implementation of that plan resulted in a successful project that will benefit the community for years to come. Rendering: Steve Miles International Shopping On the Border Tahitian Timeshare Las Vegas Style W I N T E R 2 0 0 6 Tahiti Village is a 27-acre master planned timeshare resort located right on the famed Las Vegas Strip. The island-themed resort will include six multi-unit residential towers surrounding a landscaped courtyard with pools and numerous on-site amenities. The resort has three stories, a 42,000-square-foot lobby and sales center building. The Helix team assisted the project owner, general contractor and electrical engineer with the design/build of the extensive electrical components. Special emphasis on the lighting around the pool areas was necessary to help create the island ambiance. In addition, Helix also is contracted to build the general plant, stand-by generators and low voltage systems, which include fire alarm, telephone and television cabling. General Contractor: Martin-Harris Construction. Las Americas, formerly known as the International Gateway of the Americas, is a planned development along the American side of the U.S.-Mexico border. This major project was designed with the intent to redevelop the area and dramatically change the border crossing at San Ysidro. The end result is a world-class gateway between the cities of San Diego and Tijuana. The development of this Phase encompassed a 630,000-square-foot, open-air shopping center with retail stores, restaurants, courtyards, fountains, esplanades and plazas. Helix Electric was responsible for all site lighting, including building lighting, HVAC power and fire alarm and conduit systems. In addition, Helix provided lighting for the parking lots, the buildings’ shell power and lighting and selected tenant improvements. General Contractor: Swinerton Builders DOWNTOWN SAN DIEGO CHIC Park Terrace Development LP is building a 223-unit mixed-use, two-tower development with 21,000 square feet of retail space on the block bounded by Park Boulevard, Tenth and Eleventh avenues and K Street. The 14-story high-rise project is a short stroll from major amenities including shopping, sporting events, concerts, parks, and the San Diego Trolley. Distinctive architectural styling features brick, stucco and unique concrete exterior finishes, fixtures and neighborhood-scaled facades. Helix Electric is completing the power, lighting, life safety system, communication/data wiring and smoke and access control systems. A high level of professionalism and coordination efforts among all trades will ensure quality across the entire project. Construction began in early 2005, with an anticipated completion in spring 2007. Full Steam Ahead in North County Helix Electric is working with other trades to reconstruct an existing rail corridor for the North County Transit District (NCTD) SPRINTER rail line. SPRINTER services will run 22 miles along the Highway 78 corridor. The project involves removal of existing facilities and replacement of all utilities, track, ties, ballast, bridge and culvert structures, grade crossing equipment and communication, control and signaling systems. In addition, work will be performed on station platforms, right-of-way fencing, retaining walls, erosion control and landscaping.
