1 Creekside Elementary School 19993 East Long Avenue Centennial, Colorado 80016 HOME OF THE CREEKSIDE COUGARS April 17, 2014 Volume 27, Issue 9 Creekside’s Mission Statement: To inspire every student to think, to learn, to achieve, to care. Front Office Team Kelly Sommerfeld, Principal Katie Johnson, Assistant to the Principal Jennifer Ostrom, Office Manager Penny Thomas, Dear Creekside Parents, Welcome back! I hope you and your family had a relaxing and enjoyable spring break. We traveled to Hawaii to visit friends. The kids enjoyed playing in the waves, boogie boarding, and snorkeling. It was nice to enjoy quality time with one another over the break. Now we are back in the routine of school, and spring is a busy time in schools! The next eight weeks will be filled with fun activities, performances, and community events. This is also the time of year when we, as a staff, begin planning for next school year. One of the tasks we work on as a staff is developing class lists which will create an effective learning environment for each and every student. The staff at Creekside Elementary works very hard to place each student in an optimal learning environment every year. When making class lists, we strive for balanced, heterogeneous classes. Working in grade level teams, classroom teachers take many factors into account, including collecting information from all teachers and specialists who teach our students. Academic, social, emotional, and behavioral strengths and needs are all considered when creating class lists. In addition, we attempt to balance each class with an equal number of boys and girls. Our goal is to create classes that support each child in reaching his or her full potential. We believe we have excellent teachers in each classroom who challenge, motivate, and inspire all children. It is our goal to provide an exceptional learning environment for every child. Secretary -------------------Creekside Main Office 720-886-3500 Creekside’s fax 720-886-3588 Creekside’s Attendance 720-886-3595—24/7 Access As part of this process, we value your knowledge as a parent. We would like to take into account any input you feel is important to share with us about your child. If you have additional information that would help us make those decisions, please send your comments in writing to me. Please do not request specific teachers; rather describe your child’s learning style and the learning environment in which your child learns best. If your family has had a personal experience with a specific teacher, you may include that as well. Also, please refrain from requesting placement with specific classmates and/or friends. As mentioned, teachers work very hard to create balanced classes. We consider every year an opportunity to create new friendships while renewing current/previous friendships. If you are planning to write a letter regarding placement, please e-mail your letter to me at [email protected] or drop off your letter to the front office by Wednesday, April 30th. The needs you share will be considered as part of the process in making classroom assignments for the 2014-2015 school year. We appreciate your support as we continue to provide an appropriate learning environment for all students. Respectfully, Kelly Sommerfeld, Principal 2 APRIL 4th Grade High Trails Camp 16-18 Secretary’s Day—Thank you Jen and Penny! 23 Creekside Art Show, 5:00-7:00 p.m.– More info in Page 4 23 Creekside Chick-fil-A Night, Southlands, till 8:00 p.m. 29 (Proceeds will support our DI Team’s trip to Global Competition) 3rd Grade, Castlewood Canyon, Campbell/Edstrom/ 30 Pettis/Mallett MAY Kindergarten Orientation, Gym, 9:30 a.m. 2nd Grade, Wildlife Experience 3rd Grade, Castlewood Canyon, Colon/Maben NO SCHOOL—Non Contact Day Teacher Appreciation Week PASS Meeting, Library, 6:00-7:00 p.m. Creekside Accountability, Library, 4:00-5:00 p.m. 1st Grade Mother’s Day Tea, Cafeteria, 2:30-3:15 p.m. Mothers Day—Thanks to all of our moms!!!
