WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT AND LIFELONG LEARNING Bishop State’s Division of Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning offers a wide range of training for Business and Industry programs, Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credit courses, special courses and noncredit courses. Training may be carried out on-site or at any of the college’s four campuses. For additional information, call 251.405.7056. PLACEMENT TESTING The Alabama State Board of Education requires that all entering students, who enroll for more than four credit hours or eight weekly contact hours per semester, be assessed using the COMPASS Computerized Placement Test and placed at the appropriate levels as indicated by the assessment results. The COMPASS results are used to determine student placement in English, reading and mathematics courses. Test results are used to advise course selection. ADULT EDUCATION / GED PREPARATION Bishop State Community College administers the Adult Education Program for Mobile and Washington County, which prepares adults 17 years and older, who have officially withdrawn from high school for the American Council on Education’s General Education Development (GED) tests. The GED tests cover the academic knowledge and skills learned in four years of high school: reading, writing, social studies, science and mathematics. DUAL ENROLLMENT The Dual Enrollment/ Dual Credit Program allows eligible high school students to earn high school and college credits simultaneously. College courses count toward high school graduation credits and the courses remain a part of the student’s r egu l a r t r a n s c r i pt . ARTICULATION AGREEMENT Bishop State Community College and the public school systems of Mobile and Baldwin counties have developed articulation agreements facilitating the transfer of technical credits for corresponding high school technical programs. Students interested in receiving college credits for course work completed in high school Daycare facilities are available on our Main Campus and Baker-Gaines Central Campus. TECH PREP COURSES Available in Mobile County Public School System for continuing study at Bishop State Community College are FREE Tech Prep Courses. These courses provide high school students with a plan of study that combines high school and college coursework targeted at a specific technical career field.
