LAKE TAHOE, CALIFORNIA
LAKE TAHOE, CALIFORNIA THINGS TO KNOW CLIMATE Like many mountain towns, Tahoe has a frequently changing climate. Overall, Tahoe's weather is clear and beautiful, with low humidity and close to 300 days of sunshine per year. Situated at more than 6,000 feet, Tahoe is home to winter storms from September through June and blizzards can quickly make their way into town. Always be prepared and expect cooler temperatures. GETTING THERE By far the most convenient way to get to Northstar is flying into Reno/Tahoe International Airport (RNO). This airport is 50 miles from Northstar and offers regular shuttle buses to the resort. There are daily non-stop flights from Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Francisco and more. You can also fly into Sacramento International Airport (SMF), which is 112 miles from Northstar, or San Francisco International Airport (SFO), which is 204 miles away. GETTING AROUND A rental car is highly recommended here, especially in the summer to explore the entire area. For winter, we recommend a four-wheel drive vehicle, as snowfall can be heavy. Of course, your Destination Concierge can arrange private transportation for you as well. PARKING Your residence includes one complimentary underground parking space. If you need additional parking, please ask your Destination Concierge. CHECK IN/ARRIVAL PROCESS You will first arrive at the garage entrance to One Village Place. The front desk staff will let you into the garage, where your Destination Concierge will meet you, provide your parking pass and escort you to your residence. If you arrive very late, you will pick up your keys at the Tahoe Mountain Lodging front desk. From there, you will be given instructions for accessing the residence and parking. DESTINATION HIGHLIGHT Though casual in vibe, the revamped village, new gondolas and Burton Academy snowboard lessons make Northstar the hot new place to ski or snowboard. While it has approximately half the number of runs of Squaw Valley, Northstar is more kid-centric than Squaw, especially for teens, boasting more terrain parks and a wide range of ski and snowboard lessons for children. FUN FACTS + Featured as one of the Travel Channel's Top 5 Spots to Snowboard in the World + Shaun White trains here + The Village is filled with activities and attractions + Nearby Truckee was named Most Well-Rounded Ski Town by Sunset magazine FAMILY Northstar offers a diverse set of activities tailored to families. Watch as your little ones shoot for the sky at the Apex bungee trampoline. In the Village, roller-skating, trampolines, mini golf and zip lining at Granlibakken keep the whole family happy. MUST-DO Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, Lake Tahoe's pristine beauty is a must-see attraction. Experience the astonishingly clear, cobalt-blue water of the largest alpine lake in North America via kayak, raft or catamaran. Your Destination Concierge can set up a rental or charter for a day of exploring the lake’s coves and beaches. ROMANTIC Not to brag or anything, but picturesque views, cozy hot tubs, mountain sunsets, strolls through wildflower meadows and stargazing make Tahoe a pretty fantastic setting for all things romantic. We recommend having dinner on the over-the-water dock at West Shore Cafe and Inn and kayaking along the secluded east shore of the lake. THINGS TO DO ADVENTURE You’re sure to spend plenty of time on the water during your vacation but it’s worth carving out some time to get up above the water, too. A certified guide can take you on a rock climbing expedition at Donner Pass, which overlooks the smaller but still stunning Donner Lake (located about 27 miles north of Lake Tahoe). NATURE During your time in Lake Tahoe, you’ll be surrounded by incredible nature everywhere you look. To experience it fully, we suggest hiking the D.L. Bliss trail to the world-renowned Emerald Bay State Park. The name is fitting: rocky shores neighbor crystal clear blue-green water fringed by pine trees. It’s quintessential Tahoe at its finest. LOCAL The legendary Tahoe Rim Trail hugs the perimeter of Lake Tahoe for 165 miles, following the mountain ridges that create the Tahoe Basin and offering an extensive bounty of activities. Where it’s allowed, mountain biking is a local’s favorite way to explore the trail. Elsewhere, a hike or horseback ride lets you experience the beauty at your own speed.
