The composition of this photo of the Louvre in Paris shows off this student's talent at combining man-made
structures and natural phenomena in a single frame. The student who took this photo participated in the
New York-Paris Exchange during the spring semester and extended his stay through the following fall, giving
him a year to fully appreciate the richness that Paris offers. Photo was taken and submitted by Marlon Altoe.

Study Abroad
Our goal is to provide Baruch students with costeffective means to study abroad with programs that
combine substantive learning in a student's major
and minor subjects with opportunities for students
to engage with local culture. In 2014, 246 students took advantage of the opportunity to
study abroad and that figure increased to 267 in 2015. In addition, we increased the number
as well as percentage of students taking advantage of longer-term study abroad
opportunities, especially exchange programs.

Baruch’s experience with curriculum integration internationally was presented by Baruch's Director of Study
Abroad, Dr. Richard Mitten, at two CUNY-wide conferences: the University Faculty Senate conference “Globalizing
Education,” held at John Jay College in April 2015, and the CUE Conference, held at City College in May 2015.
In addition, Baruch Study Abroad was represented on a panel on the administration of study abroad at the
CUNY-wide BARFITA conference on Enrollment Management held at John Jay College in June 2015.

C.V. Starr Fellowships Support Study Abroad Programs for Graduate Students
C.V. Starr Fellowships are awarded to graduate students who
participate in Baruch short-term study abroad programs.
“International Business Practices and Policies: A European
Perspective” is the title of the short-term program organized
by the Weissman Center for MBA students at Baruch, which in
January 2014 celebrated its fifh anniversary. The WCIB has
been at the forefront of trying to provide more study abroad
opportunities to Baruch graduate students, who are often
unable to consider semester-long study at an exchange
partner university. Distinctive among short-term programs
anywhere, the Zicklin program at Jean Moulin University
enables Baruch students to participate in International
Seminars alongside their counterparts because these seminars
are a required part of Lyon’s graduate curriculum.
The program also includes pre-departure lectures, special
preparatory seminars once the students arrive,
company visits, and cultural excursions. In January 2014,
13 students participated.
“We took classes with French students. I also really enjoyed the
professors. That really caused me to change my view of the world and
appreciate the importance of learning and experiencing different
cultures. It made me want to travel even more. The C.V. Starr Study
Abroad Fellowship funds helped me cover the high costs of going
abroad for a full two weeks. I was so thankful to have received this
scholarship. I am working full time and paying for my MBA out of
pocket, so the Fellowship was greatly appreciated.”

Study Abroad Fair for Students Each Semester
Each semester the Study Abroad Office hosts a Study Abroad Fair where students from
across campus can learn about study abroad programs and find the programs that fit
their needs. Each semester the fair is packed with students and vendors.
Approximately 400 students attend this very dynamic event. It is the largest study
abroad fair within CUNY and vendors and students alike give it high marks for the
great energy and opportunities it provides students to learn more about the world.

Baruch/Berlin School of Economics and Law Curriculum Integration Initiative
A Model for International Collaboration
In Focus
The Berlin School of Economics and Law (BSEL) has been an exchange partner of Baruch College since 2005. With
approximately 10,000 students, BSEL is one of the largest institutions of higher education in Germany’s capital city.
BSEL is distinguished by a clear focus on providing academic education strongly linked to real-world skills, an
intensive and diverse program of research, high quality standards, and a strong international approach. BSEL's portfolio
of programs cover private and public sector business and economics, administration, law, security management, and
engineering. The Berlin School of Economics and Law encourages the internationalization of its students and faculty
through more than 130 partnerships with universities throughout the world. The partnership has been at the
forefront of initiatives to integrate study abroad into the Baruch curriculum. The International Business major
was the first programmatic effort in this regard.
The Berlin School of Economics and Law is a University of Applied Sciences. The German Universities of Applied Sciences were
established in the early 1970s to provide the practice-oriented approach to higher education valued by German industries in
international markets. Since then they have established themselves as a major pillar in the German higher education system.
The major strengths of the German Universities of Applied Sciences are:
•
Academic learning linked to real-life practice
•
Small class size with continual assessment and subjects relating to professional needs
•
Internships and supervised work experience
•
Applied research in cooperation with companies and application-oriented institutes
•
Strong international outlook and program structure
Second Annual Baruch College and Berlin School of Economics and Law Research and Teaching Conference
When Baruch faculty get involved and work with our exchange partners, the focus is on teaching and curriculum. That means
improving the quality of study abroad for Baruch students. The two-day workshop was designed to give the delegation from
Berlin an opportunity to learn more about what Baruch has to offer and to explore possible areas of collaboration between the
two business schools. BSEL and Baruch faculty had the opportunity to meet and discuss curriculum as well as research
interests. This is the second joint workshop. The first was held in Berlin.
Professor Andrea Zaby, First Vice President of BSEL, and Dr. Richard Mitten, Director
of Study Abroad at Baruch, organized the joint workshop. Here they are on the last
day of the workshop at the wrap-up meeting. “We had some really lively and quite
enlightening discussions of similarities and differences between the two schools and
the German and U.S. educational systems, which provided an agenda for practical
steps to improve student exchange. And it was great to be able to have individual
faculty meet and get to know each other," Richard Mitten said.

Highlights
• Twenty-five exchange partners in 2015.
• New exchanges in 8 different cities added since 2010: Ankara, Bangkok, Beijing, Ghent, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Madrid, and Zurich.
• The new exchange with the City University of Hong Kong has attracted record numbers of applicants.
• In only its second semester, we will be sending 16 students to the Charles III University Madrid. This is a record number of Baruch
students attending any single institution for a semester.
• Baruch College continues to be the only institution from abroad that is permitted to send a group of graduate students to
participate in the International Seminars offered by the Jean Moulin University in Lyon, France in January each year. Baruch faculty
members have been invited to submit proposals to teach in the International Seminars program to be held in January 2016.
At least two Baruch faculty have indicated an interest in doing so.
• The Berlin School of Economics and Law has launched a "study plus" program where Baruch students have the opportunity to do
an internship in Berlin in connection with their studies at BSEL. This high-impact program offers academic learning as well as
career-focused practical training in an international setting.

Understanding the Terminology of Study Abroad
Study abroad programs can be divided into three basic types:
• Exchange Programs
• Sponsored Study Abroad Programs
• Direct Enrollment in a Foreign University or Other Institution of Higher Education
How a program is classified depends on its administrative structure, what tuition is charged to participants and to which
institution it is paid, and the level of student support services the program offers. The total number of Baruch students
on these programs in a given year equals the number of students studying abroad.

Study Abroad
What students are saying about Study Abroad
Amandine Le Goupil-Maier
Ms. Le Goupil-Maier speaks
four languages fluently.
An international business major,
she was approved to study on
the CUNY-wide Italian Exchange
Program, which requires
students to be able to study
in Italian. She was a recipient
of a C.V. Starr Study Abroad
Fellowship for this semesterlong program, and will also
be studying (in Spanish) at
Charles III University Madrid
in Fall 2015.
Why did you initially choose this specific study abroad destination and program?
I initially chose this program because I wanted to enhance my Italian language skills. I
had studied Italian in high school but I had only learned the basics. In addition, my
major at Baruch is international business and I wanted to finish college and enter the
work world being fluent in four languages. I was interested in attending a traditional
Italian school so that I could become familiar with business terms in that language. I
also really enjoy art history and that was part of the reason why I chose to study abroad
in Rome.
What did you enjoy the most about your study abroad experience? Why?
This semester I was able to visit various museums and churches in Rome. After school, I
would head to the center of Rome and just walk around town. I would go into churches
that looked ordinary from the outside and walk out speechless. The basilicas were
magnificent. The ceilings were covered in frescoes with bright colors. The history in
Rome is incredible. Many museums have some of the greatest sculptures and artwork
from Italian Renaissance artists such as Michaelangelo, Bernini, Tiepolo, Raphael, and
many more. Having the opportunity to live in a city that offers so much culture is
exactly what I was hoping for when I chose to study abroad in Rome.

Study Abroad
Gabriela Guaita Saba
Ms. Guaita Saba is from
Venezuela and an international
business major. She was
selected to attend the exchange
at the Berlin School of
Economics and Law, and
opted for the Berlin Study
Plus program, which combines
course work with the
opportunity to do an internship
with a company based in Berlin.
Why did you initially choose this specific study abroad destination and program?
When planning my study abroad semester I had in mind three destinations: Hong Kong,
Japan, or Germany. I had problems with my passport, which was going to expire in
December 2014, and due to Venezuelan regulations I could not renew it before it was
within 6 months of expiring. The program in Berlin gave me the greater flexibility when it
came to applying for my visa and starting the semester. Moreover, I found Germany very
appealing because it is a European country and because it is a major player in the
European Union, and therefore an important country when looking into foreign markets.
In addition, I wanted to start learning German and what better way to do it than by
immersion.
What did you enjoy the most about your study abroad experience? Why?
What I enjoyed the most about this experience was the opportunity to explore Europe,
since it was my first time there. I had the opportunity to travel and interact with people
in their own country. Traveling within Europe is simple and achievable with affordable
prices with some planning. By the end of my stay abroad I visited 11 countries and
several cities within Germany. Being able to taste the food from where it comes from
and visiting the places I have heard about or seen on TV many different times is a
feeling I will always carry with me. I realized that I like architecture more than I ever
imagined by seeing the different styles.
Chuimbou Kamara
Mr. Kamara, originally from the
Cote d'Ivoire, who is also an
international business major,
applied to study at Dauphine
in Paris. He was one of the
strongest candidates for the
exchange and had a great
personal and academic learning
experience.
Why did you initially choose this specific study abroad destination and program?
Actually, at first I did try to find a way around the study abroad requirement by applying
to the Global Student Certificate program for diverse reasons but mainly financial ones.
Then I started to research about study abroad and realized I might miss out in life
experience if I do not go for study abroad. By that time, the deadlines for study abroad
applications were closing so I had to lean on the advice of the study abroad office to
choose destinations. I had the advantage of speaking French pretty well, so this specific
destination was a perfect fit.
What did you enjoy the most about your study abroad experience? Why?
I enjoyed many things. The management of the University dormitory where I lived,
had stand-up comedians and musicians play live once a month to entertain us. It was
great to meet up with other students from different horizons, laugh about French jokes.
I enjoyed my "cross-cultural barriers" class. In fact, the professor had everyone present
about his/her home country and contrast with one country of a classmate.
This simple exercise makes you realize differences and similarities in cultures. Moreover,
some students had to learn about their own country from other students. For instance,
students from China did not know anything about Tibet and the Dalai Lama, because
Chinese government keeps that secret from the public.
The school has a restaurant where any dish costs about 3 euros, which is very much
affordable for students. I enjoyed the "spaghetti bolognaise" every day of class.
I would not miss my study abroad experience for anything.

International Internships
A Wide Range of Internship Opportunities in New York City and Abroad
Provide Students Hands-On Experience of Global Business Issues and Practices
The Internship Placement Program continued to develop internship opportunities that
expose Baruch undergraduate and graduate students of all majors to international business
issues and practices. In academic year 2014 we placed 230 students in internships, of which
57 were abroad. In academic year 2015 we placed 193 students, of which 45 were abroad.
During the reporting period we increased our outreach to students via social media. As a
result, we have added 1,108 new students to our internship program over the last two fiscal
years. Through the expanded use of social media, the program has been able to reach
students from different concentrations (e.g., Psychology, Digital Marketing, and Statistics),
which has allowed the program to have a more diverse candidate pool for companies.

International Internships
Work Abroad
The goal of the internship program is to enable students to gain practical work experience in the rapidly evolving global
marketplace. An internship abroad adds an element of adventure and fosters self-sufficiency, independence, and intercultural skills,
as well as helps students gain exposure to their intended area of business as it is practiced in foreign countries.
Destinations included countries in Central and South America; Western, Southern, and Central Europe; the Middle East;
Southern Africa; Eastern and Southern Asia; and the Asian Pacific. The variety of destinations and industries that students
chose to participate in demonstrates Baruch students' desire for adventure, challenge, and change.
Sharing Expertise with the International Education Community
Beth Miller, the Weissman Center’s assistant director, shared her experience with the work abroad program
at Baruch College with the international education community in the NAFSA webinar “Developing an
International Internship Program.” Her co-presenters included Maj Fischer, University of Wisconsin-Madison
and Cheryl Matherly, University of Tulsa. The webinar is one of the most viewed in the NAFSA series and is
available at NAFSA.org
NAFSA is an association that promotes the professional development of U.S. college and university officials
responsible for assisting and advising students who seek to take advantage of international educational
opportunities.

The Weissman Center Partners with the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange
in China to Share Knowledge about Commodity Markets
“The goal of the Weissman Center’s program with
Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange is to increase mutual
understanding of how commodity markets work in the
U.S. and in China. The program offers finance students
with skills in Mandarin the opportunity to experience
first hand how futures exchanges work in China. In
return, Baruch hosts two ZCE employees every
semester. They take finance-related courses and get
exposure to the U.S. I believe this is a truly unique
opportunity that combines academic, practitioner, and
experiential learning and enables participants to build
strong professional relationships for the future."
-Dr. Martell, WCIB Director
In Focus
Zhengzhou Commodity
Exchange (ZCE) is the
first pilot futures
market approved by the Chinese State Council. Being one of
the four futures exchanges in China, ZCE is under the vertical
management of China Securities Regulatory Commission.
Visit to the United Nations
As part of the exchange agreement, Baruch hosts two ZCE
employees who take classes in the business school. One of the
classes they take is Dr. Martell's seminar on futures and forward
markets. The photo above shows Dr. Martell meeting with ZCE
employees who are alumni of the exchange program.
ZCE performs its functions according to the Futures Trading
Management Ordinance, Futures Exchanges Regulation and
implements self-regulation in accordance with the Zhengzhou
Commodity Exchange Constitution, Zhengzhou Commodity
Trading Rules. ZCE abides by the principles of openness,
fairness, justness and good faith, provides a marketplace
with associated facilities and services for futures trading,
and regulates futures trading.
ZCE has adopted a membership system.
At the end of 2013, 203 members,
from 27 provinces, municipalities and
autonomous regions in China, had
been registered. Among the total,
futures company membership (162) accounts for 80%,
non-futures company (41) accounts for 20%.
At present, the listed products on ZCE include wheat
(Strong Gluten Wheat and Common Wheat), Early Long Grain
Non-glutinous Rice, Japonica Rice, Cotton, Rapeseed, Rapeseed
Oil, Rapeseed Meal, White Sugar, Steam Coal, Methanol, Pure
Terephthalic Acid (PTA) and Flat Glass, forming a
comprehensive range of products covering several crucial areas
of the Chinese economy including agriculture, energy, chemical
industry and construction materials. (Description adapted from

What students are saying about Work Abroad
Elizabeth Dash (BBA Accounting 2017)
Taiwan, Winter 2015
Luke Chang (BA, Management of Musical Enterprises, expected 2015)
Luke Chang chose to intern at Overseas Radio and Television Inc., a print and digital media company in Taiwan.
“I worked in the music department, which was responsible for composing and recording all of the music needed for the
television station. They produced a show called Studio Classroom, which taught English. The people I worked with were
extremely helpful and friendly. It was an amazing work environment and I learned so much about music production and
sound engineering during my time there.”
Tracy Shu (BA, Media Communications, expected 2016)
Tracy Shu said of her experience in Brazil, "My volunteer-abroad experience expanded my way of thinking from interacting
with different people and learning how to be comfortable in an unfamiliar environment. I also no longer view situations in a
one-dimensional setting. Instead, I try to look at situations from various perspectives."

Opportunities to Experience the Entrepreneurial Spirit of the Global Marketplace
Launched in summer 2012, the Baruch Entrepreneurial Intern
Fellowship Program is administered jointly by the Weissman Center for
International Business and the Lawrence N. Field Center for
Entrepreneurship and is supported by a generous grant from Baruch
alumnus Ronald Heller (’67). The program, which focuses on the
entrepreneurial spirit of the ever-growing global marketplace,
provides stipends to undergraduate students at Baruch who are
completing an unpaid internship at a start-up. The program also
offers supplemental activities, including group meetings, where the
students provide insights and feedback about their companies and the
obstacles they face in order to enhance the learning outcome of the
internship. Forty undergraduate students were Fellowship recipients
during this reporting period.

Global Student Certificate Program
Preparing Undergraduate Students for the Challenges
and Opportunities of Leadership in the 21st Century
The Global Student Certificate, sponsored by Santander
Universities, is an interdisciplinary, co-curricular program that
strives to enhance student knowledge of intercultural business
theory, international economics, and international relations. This
co-curricular program is designed to provide high-achieving
students with access to programming that would otherwise not
be available to them, and by so doing contribute to and
complement their academic success.
The GSC accepted 37 students in the 2013-2014 academic year
and 42 students the following year. The GSC has a private tour of
the United Nations buildings each year, and in 2014-2015 the
largest number of students ever attended (19). Students
consistently rate this activity as one of their favorite and most
educational events of the program.
According to final program evaluations, the newest seminar in
the Global Governance series, which is co-sponsored by the
political science department and the Baruch Model United
Nations Club, was a welcome addition to the lineup. The seminar,
"Understanding the IMF," featured Professor Kang from Baruch’s
political science department. Students particularly appreciated
the quality of the speaker and the knowledge in an area that few
of them had any experience with.

What Students Are Saying About
the GSC Program
The following quotes are taken from an
anonymous post-program survey of student
participants:
“I felt that the GSC was very worthwhile because it
provides a unique college experience outside the
classroom. I learned much more about other
cultures and made friends from all over the world.”
Program support for the Global Student
Certificate is provided by Santander
Universities. Funding was renewed in 2014.
This student rated the GSC as ‘an irreplaceable
experience’:
“I met a lot of great people, learned about cultures that
Visit to the United Nations
I have never been interested in before (for example, I’m
pretty familiar with different European countries but I
didn’t know much about Asian cultures). Also I visited
amazing events that I would probably never have
thought of myself, like the Indonesian Dance
performance.”
“I felt the Multicultural Team Building seminar was most
relevant not only because it was the first seminar but
because I understood how much the GSC program has
to offer us students.”

International Business Major
Combining Academic, Practitioner, and Experiential Learning Opportunities to
Help Baruch Students Build Their Global Knowledge and Skills for Business
The International Business major provides students
with a comprehensive understanding of international
business principles, expertise in a functional area
(marketing or finance), and appreciation and
awareness of foreign cultures. The major requires
knowledge of a second language to conduct business
in a foreign country and practical experience in an
international environment. Professor Andreas Grein is
the academic coordinator for the program. See In Focus on this page to learn more
about Professor Grein.
The 2016 cohort boasts the largest percentage ever of students who are completing
their international experience by a semester studying abroad. Students have studied or
interned in 15 countries in the last 3 years, and have advanced capability in 20 foreign
languages. The varied backgrounds and skills of International Business major students
continue to expand, and we are looking forward to working with our sixth graduating
class in the fall.

Faculty Research
Supporting Research on Multinational Companies and Trends
in Global Trade and Investment Flows
One of WCIB’s goals is to support engaged, real-world faculty research that will influence global business decisions and
shape evolving financial markets. Toward that end, the Center supported and coordinated the following major researchoriented projects during this reporting period:
• The CSR-Sustainability Monitor®
• The Baruch International Business Faculty Seminar Series
• Baruch-SWUFE Accounting and Research Consortium
In addition, the Center provided individual grants to faculty in the Zicklin School of Business in support of faculty research
and development, with a particular focus on international business. During the FY 2011-2015 period, the Center provided
59 development grants to faculty in the Zicklin School of Business to help defray the cost of conference participation,
particularly international conferences.
The Mitsui USA Foundation Provides Funding for Development of Innovative Global Teaching at Baruch
Through its Practitioners-in-Academia (PIA) program, the Mitsui USA Foundation provides support to adjunct faculty teaching
international business courses. During the reporting period the PIA grants accomplished a lot to support the development of
innovative curricula. The program sponsored a multi-year project on teaching and research collaboration in the area of supply chain
management and logistics with Copenhagen Business School (CBS). Robert Imbriani, an adjunct professor in the Allen G. Aaronson
Department of Marketing and International Business, used Adobe Connect to deliver a live online lecture to students of logistics at
CBS. In addition, Professor Ajay Das, in the Narendra Paul Loomba Department of Management, visited CBS and attended a research
seminar focused on supply chain issues. He discussed curriculum integration with his colleagues at CBS in the area of logistics more
broadly to help facilitate student exchange between the two institutions. We have invited a member of the CBS faculty to guest
lecture in Bob Imbriani's class in Spring 2016. Our goal is to expand this type of collaboration to other exchange partners.
CSR-Sustainability Monitor®
The Center launched
the CSR-Sustainability
Monitor project under
the leadership of
University Distinguished Professor Prakash Sethi. For more
information about Professsor Sethi see the In Focus piece on
the next page. The project measures the scope and quality of
information provided by the largest companies around the
world in their corporate social responsibility reports. The idea
is to bring transparency, quality of information, and
assurance to the CSR reporting process. During the reporting
period two reports were issued ranking the quality of CSR
reports issued. A third year of CSR reports is currently being
scored with findings expected to be released in the spring of
2016. A website was launched in the fall of 2014 that
provides open access for anyone with an Internet connection
to data about each company.
Company results can be compared across industries and regions
as well as to a user-selected group of companies.
The CSR-Sustainability Monitor® is gaining traction. The 2014
edition of the Monitor received an honorable mention in the
2015 PR News CSR Awards competition in March 2015. (See
sidebar next page.) The findings were featured in a number of
CSR related publications. In July, Institutional Investor magazine
featured a story on the Monitor in its online edition. Two
academic papers co-authored by Dr. Prakash Sethi, Dr. Terrence
Martell, and Mert Demir have been accepted for publication by
the Journal of Business Ethics, the top CSR academic journal.
It is one of the 45 academic journals that the Financial Times
includes in its research rankings. Three more academic papers
are in various degrees of review. Two industry reports (mining
and oil and gas, and finance and insurance) have been released
and received interest from media that cover CSR issues.

International Visiting Scholars Program
The Weissman Center for International Business provides administrative services for international scholars visiting any of Baruch’s
three schools from abroad, including help with immigration issues. During the reporting period, the Center provided visa
processing and advisement services for 35 international visiting scholars under the Exchange Visitor Program administered by the
U.S. Department of State.

Zicklin School and Capco Institute Partner to Bring Together Leading Scholars
and Practitioners to Discuss the Future of the Financial Industry
In 2012, the Weissman Center helped launch the inaugural annual conference of the Zicklin-Capco Institute Paper Series in Applied
Finance. Hosted by the Capco Institute and the Zicklin School of Business, the conference, held at the Zicklin School, welcomed
leading scholars and practitioners to discuss the current state, and future, of the financial sector and offer guidance for an
increasingly complex and turbulent global market. A fourth conference is scheduled for October 2015. The collaboration between
the Zicklin School and Capco, a global business and technology consultancy dedicated solely to the financial services industry,
creates an avenue for Baruch and other faculty and industry leaders to engage in debate and discussion and share ideas on the
state of the financial industry.
“As financial markets will be faced with significant uncertainty for the foreseeable future, the
Zicklin School of Business and Capco saw the need to offer true guidance and insight, rather than
purely theoretical and academic solutions. The knowledge of the esteemed speakers and panelists
participating in the conference will influence decisions made both today and far into the future.”
—Dr. Terrence Martell, Saxe Distinguished Professor of Finance, Zicklin School of Business,
and Director, Weissman Center for International Business
“Our partnership with the Zicklin School offers an incredible opportunity to advance the passionate
debate between academics, practitioners, and regulators and help solve the complex industry issues.
This conference is only the beginning, and we look forward to working with the Zicklin School to
develop ideas and actions that will ensure a sustainable financial industry for years to come.”
—Ismail Amla, Capco CEO, North America

WCIB Partners with New York's Business Community to Showcase
the Importance of International Trade to the Local Economy
Each year, in collaboration with the New York District
Export Council, the Center hosts the NYC World Trade
Week Awards Breakfast. The event, which is part of a
national celebration of international trade, showcases
the many small companies in the New York region
that are successful in the global marketplace. In 2014
and 2015, Charles Ludmer, a partner with the accounting firm
CohnReznick, and Richard Larrabee, the director of the Port Commerce,
the Port Authority of NY and NJ, served as co-chairs for the event. The
10-year celebration in 2015 featured a sold-out audience for the awards
breakfast, media attention, and 37 events throughout the region. The
World Trade Week organization awarded scholarships to two Baruch
undergraduate students studying international business.
The Weissman Center for International Business Selected
as a Strategic Partner Organization by the U.S. Department
of Commerce
The Strategic Partnerships program is designed to
enhance promotion of U.S. exports in line with
the President’s National Export Initiative (NEI),
while simultaneously benefiting partner businesses and organizations by
facilitating their ability to offer enhanced value-added services to their
customers and members. The Weissman Center works with the Department
of Commerce on a number of projects such as World Trade Week.
The Weissman Center Invited to Join the Regional
Economic Development Council’s Global NY Work Group
As a follow-up to Governor Cuomo’s proposed 2014
Global NY Export Action Plan, the New York City,
Mid-Hudson and Long Island REDCs convened a joint
work group to discuss an implementation timeline. Weissman Center,
deputy director Lene Skou, is part of the work group.

NYCdata
It's all Here! WCIB's Open Access Website about New York City
NYCdata is a website designed to be the only resource anyone is likely to need when
looking for information about New York City. Its purpose is to provide information to
students, businesses, and the general public in a free compendium on the City.
NYCdata is an extension of the Center’s mission to highlight the international character
of the City and its role in the world economy.
The website saw a record number of hits in early 2014 as the team launched a redesign
of the site aimed to ease navigation and used Twitter and Facebook proactively to drive
traffic. Analytics show that many data users are coming from Baruch and other CUNY
colleges.
The Center hired a new management team in January 2015. Under the new team
significant upgrades have been implemented, including new photos, a “Hidden Gems”
section, and a section on New York's iconic restaurants and food establishments.
