(Fig-1). HEAVY RAINFALL Heavy rain occurred at isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya on 13th, over Kerala on 16th & 17th and over Andaman & Nicobar Islands on 17th. METEOROLOGICAL ANALYSIS Last week’s upper air cyclonic circulation over southwest Bangladesh & neighbourhood upto 3.1 km above mean sea level became less marked on 13th. Last week’s upper air cyclonic circulation over west Assam & neighbourhood at 3.1 km above mean sea level lay centred over Meghalaya & neighbourhood upto 3.6 km above mean sea level on 13th; and persisted between 1.5 and 3.1 km above mean sea level on 14th and became less marked thereafter. Last week’s trough from east Bihar to north Bay of Bengal across Gangetic West Bengal ran from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim to north Bay of Bengal across Bangladesh between 3.6 km and 4.5 km above mean sea level on 13th and became less marked on 14th. Last week’s western disturbance as a trough in midtropospheric westerlies ran roughly along Longitude 73.0°E and north of Latitude 32.0°N on 13th. It ran roughly along longitude 76.0°E and north of Latitude 32.0°N on 14th and moved away east-northeastwards thereafter. An east-west shear zone ran roughly along latitude 10.0°N between 1.5 & 4.5 km above mean sea level on 13th and became less marked on 14th. An upper air cyclonic circulation lay centred over Tamilnadu & neighbourhood and extended upto 3.1 km above mean sea level on 13th. It merged with the above shear zone thereafter. An upper air cyclonic circulation lay centred over Kerala & adjoining Lakshadweep area between 1.5 km & 4.5 km above mean sea level on 14th; over Lakshadweep area & neighbourhood between 3.1 km & 4.5 km above mean sea level on 15th; persisted over same area and extended upto 3.1 km above mean sea level on 16th and became less marked on 17th. An upper air cyclonic circulation lay centred over southeast Bangladesh & neighbourhood and extended upto 2.1 km above mean sea level on 15th. It lay centred over Tripura & neighbourhood and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 16th & 17th and became less marked on 18th. An upper air cyclonic circulation lay centred over Arakan Coast & neighbourhood and extended upto 3.1 km above mean sea level on 17th and over eastcentral Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood on 18th. Under its influence, a low pressure area formed over eastcentral Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood with associated upper air cyclonic circulation extending upto 4.5 km above mean sea level on 19 th. A trough extended from the above system to southwest Bay of Bengal in the lower levels on 18th & 19th. An upper air cyclonic circulation lay centred over southwest Bay of Bengal off Tamilnadu Coast and extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 15th & 16th and between 1.5 & 3.1 km above mean sea level on 17th. It merged with the trough extending from the upper air cyclonic circulation over eastcentral Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood to southwest Bay of Bengal on 18 th. A Western Disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation lay centred over north Pakistan & neighbourhood between 3.1 & 3.6 km above mean sea level on 18th and over north Pakistan & adjoining Jammu & Kashmir on 19th. An upper air cyclonic circulation lay centred over Gangetic West Bengal & neighbourhood between 2.1 & 3.6 km above mean sea level on 18th and became less marked on 19th. An east-west shear zone at 3.1 km above mean sea level ran roughly along latitude 11.0° N on 19 th. RAINFALL Rainfall During The Week (13 October to 19 October, 2016) Rainfall was excess/normal in 04, deficient/scanty in 18 and no rain in 14 out of 36 meteorological sub-divisions. (All India Actual: 4.3 mm, Normal: 16.4 mm and Departure: -74%). Cumulative Seasonal Rainfall (1 October to 19 October, 2016) Rainfall was excess/normal in 18 and deficient/scanty in 18 out of 36 meteorological sub-divisions. (All India Actual: 49.6 mm, Normal: 60.1 mm and Departure: -17%). Sub-division wise weekly and seasonal rainfall distribution is presented in Fig-2 and Fig-3. Sub-divisionwise daily distribution of realised rainfall is shown in Table-1(A). Statewise distribution of number of districts with excess, normal, deficient, scanty and no rainfall is shown in Table-2. A comparative data of cumulative seasonal rainfall during the corresponding period in the last five years is given in Table-3. Sub-divisionwise weekly rainfall is shown in Annexure-1. METEOROLOGICAL ANALYSIS AS ON 20 OCTOBER, 2016 A well marked low pressure area lies over eastcentral & adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal. The associated upper air cyclonic circulation extends upto mid-tropospheric level. The system is likely to intensify into a depression during next 48 hours. A trough runs from the above system to southwest Bay of Bengal in the lower levels. A Western Disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over eastern parts ofJammu & Kashmir & neighbourhood between 3.1 & 3.6 km above mean sea level. Another Western Disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over north Pakistan & neighbourhood at 3.1 km above mean sea level. An east-west shear zone at 4.5 km above mean sea level runs roughly along latitude 11.0° N. Another fresh Western Disturbance likely to affect Jammu & Kashmir from 24th night onwards. FORECAST & WARNING FOR THE NEXT WEEK 20 OCTOBER TO 26 OCTOBER 2016 Detailed seven days Sub-division wise rainfall-forecast & weather-warning is given in Table-1(B).
