[ tennis program supported by a terrific staff and outstanding tennis facilities. meet the Tennis Staff John Joyce, Director of Tennis John has been the director of tennis for Boca West Country Club since May 1994. He is extremely active in the United States Professional Tennis Association and has been on their board since 2000. He was Florida’s division President for 2006-2007 and was an active member of the USPTA’s national executive committee from 2006-2009. John has an impressive playing history with multiple tennis rankings including #1 in the USTA/Florida Section Men’s 25 doubles on three different occasions, as well as, #1 in the USTA/Florida Section Men’s 30 doubles. Held a USTA National 35 singles ranking on two occasions. He was also ranked #20 Nationally in the Men’s 35 singles of the USPTA. John still participates in competitions, but not all of them involve tennis. Surprisingly, John has also mastered the martial art Tae Kwon Do, in which he holds a 3rd degree black belt. He is currently working towards receiving his 4th degree black belt and becoming a Grand Master. Awards and Achievements 2001-2003, 2005, 2007, 2009 USPTA FL Division Professional of the Year 2007 National USPTA Alex Gordon Professional of the Year 2000 USPTA FL Division Facility Manager of the Year November 2010 Inducted into the Admiral Farragut Academy Athletic Hall of Fame •31 Har-Tru Courts (three of which are lit) •15 Men’s and Women’s Tennis Teams •Daily Game Arranging for Men and Women •Tournaments, Special Tennis Exhibitions, Round Robin Events including Sunday Social Mixed-Doubles and Annual Pro-Am Tournament, Color War and Calcutta •Twilight Events and Socials “Under the Lights” •Men’s and Women’s Member Guest Days •Partnership with the Evert Tennis Academy •USTA High Performance Boys and Girls train at Boca West •Lessons available for every level player, as well as weekly adult clinics, and children’s clinics during the holiday weeks •Ball machines for member usage •Full Service Tennis Pro Shop with lounge area offering the latest merchandise, as well as stringing and racquet repair •Summer Tennis Camps for Juniors Duby Petrovich, Head Pro Duby has been the Head Tennis Pro of Boca West since March of 2004. He is a highly knowledgeable tennis specialist from Canada with a very impressive tennis history. He was an avid ATP Tour player in the later 1970’s before deciding to choose a career in the tennis industry as a personal touring coach for internationally ranked players on the WTA tour. He served as a hitting and touring partner for Chris Evert and Wendy Turnbull along with being the coach and manager of Canada’s Fed Cup Team in 1988-1989, leading the team to the semi-finals of the World Championships in 1989. When moving to Florida, he became a Personal Developmental Coach for top-ranked juniors at the Evert Tennis Academy and Director of Pro/Ams for Chris Evert Pro/Celebrity Tournaments. He currently is still active with several charity fundraisers in the South Florida area. Awards and Achievements USPTA Certified National Coaching Association Certified (Levels 1, 2, 3 in Canada) Tennis Canada Coaching Award for “Outstanding Contribution to Development” Merissa Rock, Assistant Director of Tennis Merissa was welcomed to into the Boca West community in August of 2010. Born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, she spent most of her days as a junior training at the Jimmy Evert Tennis Center. Along with being ranked #1 in the state of Florida as a Junior player, she also played the #1 position all four years in singles and doubles for Queens University of Charlotte, NC. She earned MVP all four years, was ranked #10 in the Southeast region for Division II schools, and led her team to national ranking for the first time in Queens’ history.
