Loosely based on Jean-Paul Sartre’s short story of the same name, this fascinating film chronicles the childhood of a fascist leader during WWI. An adaptation of three inter-related short stories by Pulitzer-winning Canadian author Alice Munro circling around ideas of yearning, memory and loss. After a casual encounter, a brokenhearted woman decides to confront her life and the most important events about her stranded daughter. A welcome return to the female-centric storytelling that has previously earned Pedro Almodovar his greatest acclaim. Direct from opening this year’s Cannes Film Festival comes Cafe Society, Woody Allen’s highly anticipated 47th film. Set in the 1930s, this bittersweet romance follows Bronx-born Bobby Dorfman to Hollywood, where he falls in love, and back to New York, where he is swept up in the vibrant world of high society nightclub life. There, Jake befriends the charismatic Tony, whose single mother Leonor runs the shop downstairs. After Jake’s parents ask Leonor to sign a new, steeper lease on her store, a feud ignites between the adults and soon enough the conflict intrudes upon the borders of the boy’s friendship. Our Cinememories dementia friendly screenings are free for anyone over 60, who can bring guests of any age, such as friends, family and carers.
