From the Desk of the Business Manager
Dear Sisters and Brothers:
While we await an economic recovery, it remains difficult to obtain new venues and contracts. I am however, very happy to report that we have signed multiple new contracts. “Brooklyn Rigging, LLC”, “24/7 Productions”, and “CJ Productions Inc.” are three of our newest vendors. These contracts have already brought
work and new venues to our Local. Our esteemed members have worked on Kanye West, Party at One Hanson Place, Red Bull Creation at Newton Barge and McCarren Parks, as well as GM at Citifield.
Once again, Local No. 4 has experienced the democratic process at work, as the Election of Officers of
Local No. 4 went smoothly with some close results. I would like to extend my congratulations to our new Vice
President Edward Donohue, and our two newest Executive Board members, Bros. Thomas Paulucci and
Kenneth Purdy, and our newest Trustee Sister Jobianna Gabrielli. All of the Officers would like to thank Bros.
James D’Adamo, Gregory Gilliam, and Michael Dassaro for their years of loyalty and dedication to Local No.
4. We wish each of you the best of luck in all future endeavors. Many thanks!
Lamentably, at this time I have to report that the NY Mets have chosen not to do any concerts at Citifield
this season.
With the invaluable assistance of the Craft Development Committee, I have developed Electrical and Carpentry handbooks, which will be available online and in hard copy in the coming months. These handbooks
are available to all interested members. In addition, we are trying to establish an in office library of books
which are relevant to our industry. We plan to make these books available to members studying for any industry certifications. Education is paramount to growth, and it is our intention to facilitate the acquisition of
necessary advanced theatrical information by offering numerous courses throughout the year. These courses
are led by many of our talented and esteemed Local No. 4 members. Please refer to the Local No. 4 website
for updates. We greatly appreciate the talents and dedication of our knowledgeable instructors.
We must remember to remain vigilant and loyal to our Unions as many states across this great nation, including Wisconsin and our neighboring state of New Jersey, are actively seeking the demise of Unions.
When we are called by IATSE to help try to stop this attempt at Union busting, we must heed the call and
show our support and strength. With our current economic climate in such a debilitated state, these are extremely important times to show our solidarity, and strength in numbers. After all, it’s who we are.
On a positive note, we anticipate the completion of The Barclay’s Arena to be just one year away. We remain optimistic that this will bring extraordinary opportunities and great financial benefits to Local No.4.
Looking for Work?
Member Contact Info
If you are available for work, you should call the
Local on each Friday for the upcoming week. Your
availability will be added to the database and sent to
department heads who are looking for members to work
in their venues.
Members should log on to our website
(www.iatselocal4.org) for notices of basic job openings, and to make your availability known through our
web-based availability calendar.
Local No.4 requests that all members notify
the office of their current email addresses, phone
numbers, and any change in mailing address. This
will allow us to keep you informed of important information, and to ensure you do not miss work calls
due to the local not having your most current contact information.
From the Desk of the President
Hello Brothers and Sisters,
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer and catching up with your families and friends. Another
summer is upon us and again we seem to be finding enough work to keep the majority of us busy. “Thanks
Lew” you are doing an outstanding job as usual setting up calls and filling last minute calls (6A.M.).
On June 28th, Business Manager Lew Resnick and I attended a meeting at the offices of the I.A.T.S.E.
National Benefits Funds. The purpose of the meeting was I.A.T.S.E. President Matthew Loeb’s launching of
the I.A.’s “Stand Up, Fight Back” Campaign. The Stand Up, Fight Back campaign is the International’s response to the relentless attacks on workers’ rights over the past year, affecting workers across the country.
President Loeb has asked for the help of a few Metro area Locals to get this started. In the next couple of months I will be asking for the help of a few individuals to help me get all of our Local 4 Brothers and
Sisters involved in this campaign. What happens in the future of the entertainment industry depends on all of
us, we need to “Stand Up and Fight Back” together, united.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Families and Invited Guests, please come join us celebrate at our Local 4 Triennial Retirement Dinner and Dance. This is going to be a wonderful evening held at Garguilo’s of Coney Island on August 27th, tickets are available at the Hall. Come toast to our 50 year members and our new retirees. I Promise you, we always have a good time at this event so grab your loved ones and come on out and
enjoy the evening.
2011 Labor Day Parade, Saturday, September 10th, 2011. Kicks off 10:00 A.M. @ 5th Avenue & 44th
street. IF YOU ARE NOT WORKING I WANT YOU THERE. This is another Local 4 Family Event. Please
come out and have fun with us. This one is important folks, lets show some solidarity.
Also, Brooklyn Cyclones tickets are available through the Hall.
God Bless You All,
President Joe Holler
From the Desk of the Secretary
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
The IATSE is stepping up its fight against Intellectual Property Theft, and is seeking the support of all
IATSE members. For those not familiar with IP Theft, the most blatant is the selling of bootleg DVD’s you see
on virtually every corner. Then there is the downloading of music, movies, and television content that is not
authorized by the owner. This theft, has a direct negative impact on the entertainment industry, which here in
America supports 2.4 million jobs. As Local No.4, and the entire IATSE are a part of the entertainment industry, when must work together to crush this rampant theft.
One simple way is to educate your friends and family, and ask that they not buy the bootleg DVD’s,
and only download content from legitimate web sites. This last part has become increasingly more difficult as
the overseas rouge sites are highly sophisticated and look legit. They appear on multiple search engines, and
often accept credit cards, and alternative payments like PayPal.
There is currently a Bill in Congress aimed at shutting down these illegal sites, called the Protect IP
Act. You can make your voice on this most important matter heard by visiting;
http://www.creativeamerica.org/#/IATSE , where you can learn more, sign up and take action, by sending letters to your Senators, and Representatives.
From the Desk of the Financial Secretary
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
After a winter of discontent, glorious summer is finally upon us! I know that I speak for the entire administration of Local No. 4 in wishing you all a happy, healthy and productive summer season.
While many members have made good on their financial obligation to the Local, there remains a good number of members who need to do so. This means that those members who owe Per Capita Dues for the 3rd
Quarter of 2011 (as well as those who still owe for the year) should expect to receive a notice from my office
detailing the state of their accounts. By the same token, those new members who still owe their Initiation Fee
will also receive similar notices.
A reminder… Those who still have not submitted their Hartford Beneficiary Designation Forms should do so
as soon as possible. Getting one is easy:
►
You can download it online at www.iatselocal4.org.
►
You can call the Office and request that it be sent to you via email or “snail-mail”.
►
You can also stop by during office hours and pick one up.
Many members have already submitted their completed form. Please make every effort to ensure that your
beneficiary data is current.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the members who took the time to vote in the recent Local
No. 4 election of officers. We, the Officers of Local No. 4, will continue to serve you energetically and with the
integrity worthy of the trust you have placed in us.
As always, if I can be of any assistance to you regarding any of the above matters, or in any way, please feel
free to contact me at the Office, or via email ([email protected]).
Yours in Brotherhood,
Robert Borch

How I get Health Coverage
ELIGIBILITY
WHEN COVERAGE STARTS
Plan A is available only to individuals who work in
“covered employment.”
“Covered employment” means work covered by
a collective bargaining agreement or another
agreement that requires your employer to make
contributions to the IATSE National Health &
Welfare Fund, Plan A, on your behalf.
Participation is also available to your “eligible dependents,”
The IATSE or local unions negotiate daily employer
contribution rates.
Coverage starts once you meet the Plan’s eligibility
requirement.
You qualify once you work 60 days in covered employment in a period of six consecutive months. Coverage
then starts on the first day of the second month after
you complete the 60-day requirement and continues for
six months. The following table shows how this
works.

How I Lose Health Coverage
You lose your eligibility for continued participation if you fail to work 60 days in your 6 month ‘Continuation Period.
When coverage ends for this reason, you will need to re-qualify as explained above. You will also have an opportunity to continue your coverage under the federal law known as “COBRA.” COBRA requires that in certain circumstances health plans must offer the ability to self pay for group coverage for a limited period of time.

Organizing Committee
The Organizing Committee met on June 28th at 1 pm. In attendance were Business Manager Lewis
Resnick, President and Committee Chairman Joseph Holler, Executive Board member Kenneth
Purdy and Committee Secretary Erica Stolz.
The discussion opened with the issue of Education for our current members and those that may become members through our organizing efforts. Unfortunately we have been unsuccessful in our attempts to organize P.S. 1in Queens, and we are therefore looking at new ways to attempt to organize. We discussed using our newest contract Brooklyn Rigging, LLC to make further contact and
possibly organize through them.
Business Manager Resnick and Recording Secretary Ryan, met with IA leaders, President Loeb and
Vice President DiTolla to discuss the organizing of “Celebrate Brooklyn” at Prospect Park. After
much discussion the IA recommended that we get a copy of the “Celebrate Brooklyn” CBA, to see
whether we have a legitimate argument for jurisdiction. We also decided that we need to:
Check the IA national web site for selling points to pitch to potential clients for organizing their
work place.
Send the newsletter to potential clients.
Get current client testimonials.
Let potential clients know that we are always reinvesting in education and keeping up with new
technologies.
We also need additional pertinent information to aid in our negotiations with smaller venues, such
as:
The hourly rates charged by competitors.
The fees charged by vendors.
The profit margin for a full house event.
We adjourned at 2:55 pm. Our next scheduled meeting is set for July 21, 2011 at 1 pm.

WE ARE ONE RALLY APRIL 2011
NEW YORK STANDING STRONG FOR WORKERS’ RIGHTS
IATSE International President Mathew D. Loeb called for the IATSE to “stand shoulder
to shoulder with all workers in N.Y.C. and across the Nation”. His call was taken literally as hundreds of IATSE workers were part of the 15,000 plus from the public sector
as well as trades to line 7th Ave. starting at 42nd Street. The massive crowd stretched
for 10 blocks. While we would have preferred a stronger turnout from local No. 4, we
thank those of you who made the effort and came to Times Square to represent our
union. Iatse heeded the call along with a myriad of unions from New York and outside
the state. A strong showing of solidarity from the proud and talented hard working Unions, culminated in One Voice standing strong. NYC as the heart and soul of theater
and entertainment has once again demonstrated that we are all professionals that will
always be heard, standing for unionism and brotherhood for all.

RED BULL EVENT JULY 2011
Red Bull is sponsoring a unique and exciting event at Newton Barge Playground
and McCarren Park in July called “Red Bull Creation”. Teams of talented inventors
will have 72 hours to create something amazing using basic materials, ingenuity, and
imagination. 24/7 Productions secured the Labor contract for this interesting event.
Local No. 4 was hired as the Labor force for the installation load in and load out at
both venues. As always, Local No. 4 is proud to have the unparalleled professional
talents of its members involved in any and all aspects of New York City’s entertainment industry.
WILLIAMSBURG WATERFRONT 2011
Once again, Local No. 4 has the pleasure to install and work the shows at The
Williamsburg Waterfront Park this summer. There are approximately 15 shows this
year, including the incredible talents of such prominent artists as Stone Temple Pilots,
Kid Cudi and Sonic Youth. It is with great excitement that we welcome these performers to our wonderful borough and its coveted neighborhood of Williamsburg.
