Another great issue. I especially loved
reading all about Rathdrum Days. I know
several people who attended who said it
was a wonderful event, and you are so
right, it takes a lot of volunteer labor to
keep a Days/ Daze event going. Blanchard
Daze (someone else gave it that spelling)
grew too big for too few volunteers and “is
no more”. I would hate to see that happen
to Rathdrum Days so I hope your pleas are
heard.

Chamber Membership and Event Director Shanie Rountree
thanked everyone who volunteered for the recent Rathdrum
Days celebration.
The Rathdrum / Westwood Historical Society was both the
business of the month and the featured speaker. Jeannette
from the Historical Society started the presentation talking
about the Jail and some of the events
they have held there. They are needing
volunteers to do some archiving of the
various items in the jail.
Jeanette, a volunteer at Next up was Ellen Larsen talking about
her book “Rathdrum Idaho, A County Seat
the Kootenai County
That Became A Town” and she read a
Jail Museum
passage from said book. It was a pretty
good listen and tied in well with the Kootenai Jail and how we lost
the county seat to Coeur d'Alene.
At the end of the meeting it was opened up for announcements
from the floor.
Jolene from the Twin Lakes School House stood up and talked about Ellen reading a
passage from her

school house on Upper Twin Lakes Road.
Jane from the Kroc Center was next and she spoke of the summer programs going on at
the Kroc Center in Coeur d'Alene. I did not know that you don't have to be a member of
the Kroc Center to take advantage of the summer programs. For more information about
their summer programs please visit their website at http://www.kroccda.org. Lastly, April
from the Rathdrum Animal Clinic talked about an Open House they are having at their
office on August 6th starting at 2:00pm. They will have a petting zoo, tours of their office,
and various demo's. They are located at 6499 Commercial Park Avenue. They are
between O'Reilly's Auto Parts on the West, and Perfection Tire on the East.

Small-business Owners Must Protect Their Futures
If you’re a small-business owner, you think
a lot about today. Is your cash flow
sufficient … today? Are your products and
services competitive … today? Are you
confident in your marketing and advertising
efforts … today? And because you are so
focused on today, you may be neglecting a
key aspect of tomorrow – your retirement.
Specifically, do you have a good retirement
plan for yourself?
Given that your personal finances are so
tied up with your business, your plans for
the business will obviously greatly affect
your financial situation when you retire.

known as defined benefit plans, have
become less prevalent in recent years – but
you can still set one up for yourself if you

retirement plans, your contributions are
typically tax-deductible.

Pistol Prof’s Perspective
by Russell S. Spriggs
“…To Protect and Defend the Constitution of the United States . . .”
“…against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to
the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of
evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I
am about to enter. So help me God."
Such is the wording of the Oath of Enlistment of a military officer in this nation and is to
the Constitution alone, without qualification. While the enlisted oath does contain a
pledge to obey the orders of the President and of commanding officers, that is still
preceded by a pledge to “defend the Constitution,” and is also qualified by the
requirement that such orders be “according to regulations and the Uniform Code of
Military Justice.” Any order, by anyone, that is not constitutional or according to
regulations, is unlawful; military personnel are not obligated to follow such orders – and,
in fact, are obligated to refuse. Nowhere, in the wording, is an expiration date. Police,
fire, first responders and other uniformed personnel take similar oaths.
Nationally, those who have taken the Oath have an opportunity to re-affirm their
dedication to the Constitution by joining www.OathKeepers.org. Even those who are not
prior service may join as affiliates. Stuart Rhodes, founder and president, says this about
the group’s recent involvement on Ferguson, MO: “We guarded businesses owned by
blacks (Natalie’s Cakes and More), Asians (Korean owned beauty supply and Asian owned
Chinese restaurant), as well as whites (a white owned dental office). Their color didn’t
matter to us, as we protect all Americans, but since the left likes to focus so much on
race, let’s make that clear. And we also protected lives, not just property, since we
protected the families of all colors who lived in apartments above those businesses –
men, women, and children – from the deadly threat of murder by arson. And we didn’t
ask the race of the people who lived there before deciding to protect them, because it
was irrelevant to us.”
Locally, Oath Keeper chapters reach out to the community by having free workshops and
classes on topics such as gardening, canning, greenhouses, seed saving, amateur ham
radios, compass and land navigation, essential oils, gun safety and more. These men
and women volunteer their time and resources to neighbors while remaining alert to any
infringements on our Constitutional rights. See what they offer us by checking out
www.meetup.com/INW-Oath-Keepers/ - odds are, an Oath Keeper is your neighbor!
Some excerpts from: www.OathKeepers.org.
Russell Spriggs provides basic, affordable classes in Open and Concealed
Pistol Safety, confidence and proficiency in the Inland Northwest. An NRA
Certified Pistol Instructor, Range Safety Officer and Vietnam Era Veteran,
Russell believes that even non-gun owners - as well as purchasers, shooters
and defensive-carry citizens - should be well-versed in pistol safety. Learn
more about Idaho and Washington classes at www.PistolProf.com; class
schedules are posted at www.INWprep.com and are usually the second Saturday or Sunday of
each month.

KNOW THE REAL FACTS ABOUT TODAY’S REAL ESTATE MARKET
Submitted by Tim Herzog, Twin Lakes Realty
BUYERS BEWARE and SELLERS BE AWARE!
I have submitted articles here before specific to our local area in and around Rathdrum.
This article will outline the overall market in general and include some true facts about
the current real estate market.
It should be a well-known fact that anytime the real estate market begins upward
movements the number of agents going into the business increases. That is certainly
true right now as we have over 1,100 Realtors just out of our local Board of Realtors.
Back in 1991 when I first began in real estate, we had approximately 420 or so and over
the years along with the cyclical boom and bust cycle of the real estate market, the
number of agents grew or declined accordingly. Unfortunately there just isn’t enough
business to go around to support the current number of agents but the lure of making
‘big money’ keeps many in the business until reality sets in or the expenses outweigh
the benefits received.
Here’s a quick rundown of our current market statistics. We have just over 6,100 Active
listings in All Categories and Areas with approximately 1,000 having Pending offers. A
quick note on Pending offers; Pending is not Sold! Many have contingencies for
financing, inspection or are tied to a sale of another property so a certain percentage of
these pending offers will fall out and fail to close!

You can see by these numbers where the most activity is with Residential Listings under
$200k and Residential on Acreage Listings under $300k because this is considered the
affordable range for buyers and where the Laws of Supply and Demand dictate the most!
When does the BE AWARE FACTOR become important? If you’re a Seller, you need to Be
Aware of you market competition and price your property right for a sale within a
reasonable time frame. If you are a Buyer, you need to Be Aware also and make sure
that you are getting what you want and for the ‘right price’ which is again dictated by
supply and demand.
Either way, a competent and professional Realtor should advise you and be willing to
provide a Comparable Market Analysis (CMA) whether you’re selling or buying!

On July 28, 2015, Microsoft released Windows 10 as a free upgrade for any computer
running Windows 7 service pack 1, or Windows 8.1.
Now, a year later they are withdrawing the offer at midnight on Friday, July 29th. So, if
you want to take advantage of this offer, you need to have Windows 10 installed and
activated by midnight, July 29th.
If you are having difficulties installing the
upgrade, we recommend contacting your
computer guy or gal because over the last
year of installing the upgrade, there are a lot
of little tricks and tips they have picked up.

powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers
and duties of the office as Acting President.
Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and
the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability
exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and
a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other
body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro
tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written
declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.
Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that
purpose if not in session. If the Congress, within twenty-one days after receipt of the
latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty-one days after
Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the
President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President
shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall
resume the powers and duties of his office.
