From music across the store with in-house radio, or TVs playing for the benefit of customers or staff, to the radio in the back office and the music used on your telephone on hold system, music can have many uses within your business. All prices are quoted per shop or store, before VAT, and are taken from the full published tariff, a copy of which is available on request. Don’t forget that using music is prohibited without the copyright owners’ permission. A PRS Music Licence allows you to use music lawfully in your premises. Where the only means of performance is a single portable radio, with or without incorporated CD or tape, but with integrated speaker(s), or a TV with a screen no greater than 26 inches (66cm) the annual royalty is: £87.54 Annual Standard Royalty £58.36 Where the only means of performance is by equipment which is on sale on the premises and being performed only to demonstrate that equipment at or near the point of sale, then the applicable royalty is reduced by 30%. If a licence is not applied for prior to music being played in the premises then a ‘higher royalty’, which is calculated as 50% higher than the standard royalty, may be applied for the first licence year. Occasional Live Music For occasional live music events where the performers receive no payment the annual royalty is: Background or demonstration music Annual Higher Royalty £52.49 Annual Standard Royalty £34.99 These charges are subject to certain conditions, which are detailed in the full tariff.
