capacity. If necessary, it will shut down nonessential circuits to prevent an overload, ensuring

HOW TRANSFER SWITCHES WORK
You might wonder how your generator knows that it needs to switch on when the power goes
out. A transfer switch is what makes it all happen seamlessly. Your home generator features a
continuous fuel supply from either natural gas or liquid propane, and is permanently connected
via a transfer switch to your home’s electrical system for an automatic response to power failure.

A computer-controlled transfer switch, such as Milbank’s innovative SynapSwitch™, continually
monitors your connection to local utility power. When your utility power is disrupted, the
transfer switch confirms that a true power outage has occurred and signals the generator to
start. This state-of-the-art system supplies backup power to your home within seconds. When
utility power is restored, the system automatically senses it, switches to utility power and turns
off the generator. It then resumes monitoring until the next utility failure.
MILBANK SYNAPSWITCH™ TRANSFER SWITCHES
The SynapSwitch™ is the latest innovation developed by Milbank’s research and development
team. While competing transfer switches only measure one aspect of power, the SynapSwitch™
uses state-of-the-art technology to constantly measure power and frequency—allowing the
switch to predict and react to changes in demand, as well as prevent the generator from
overloading. This process allows you to get maximum performance from a smaller generator,
saving you space and money while affording you total peace of mind during an outage.
MILBANK DUAL 200A/SPLIT 400A TRANSFER SWITCH
The Dual 200A Transfer Switch/Split 400A replaces the need for two 200A transfer switches in
standard split 400A service homes with 200A distribution panels. A single switch means less
wiring, shorter installation time and reduced cost compared to traditional system installations.
MILBANK VIGILANT® TRANSFER SWITCHES
The Vigilant® series automatic transfer switch is designed to seamlessly transfer critical loads
in the event of a power outage. It consists of a simple, rugged design, but maintains the
flexibility required to meet the needs of residential, agricultural and light industrial applications.
All Vigilant® series automatic transfer switches feature a five-year warranty, one of the best
comprehensive parts warranties in the industry.
