Sufi Sutra II :
International Sufi-Mystic-Traditional
Music Festival
Feb 3-5, 2012, Kolkata
Banglanatak dot com is a social enterprise with a 72 member team, specializing in 'culture and
development''.
Our vision is to synergise cultural and economic development not only for
preservation of cultural heritage and diversity but also facilitating sustainable development of
people. It was founded in the year 2000 and has undertaken development communication and
research in 24 states of India.
Starting 2004, we took the initiative of 'Art for Livelihood (AFL)'. AFL covered 3200 rural poor and
marginalized community artists engaged in 6 traditional art forms across 6 backward districts of
West Bengal, India. This Project was supported by Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre and Ministry of
Rural Development, Govt of India and subsequently by the European Union. The project has
created a tremendous impact leading to socio economic development of the marginalized
rural artists and their communities, and helped to address Millennium Development Goals 1,
3, and 8 for the target groups. This initiative also promoted platforms for exchange and
collaboration, and organizing festivals. The International Sufi-mystic-traditional music
festival at Kolkata is one of the key festivals from that line up of events. UNESCO HQ,
appreciating the methodology, has accredited us with the status of global advisor to its ICH
committee (2010).
