Ayla Brown comes
to the Springfield Fair
American Idol finalist, Ayla Brown, will be performing at the 163rd Springfield Fair. Friday
night, August 30, 2013 will be a special evening. The gates will open to the public at 5
PM. Arrive early, bring your own chair or sit in the majestic 125 year-old grandstand. At
7 PM Travis James and Tim Humphrey will open this incredible night with 45 minutes of
original music.
At 8:15, Americal Idol star Ayla Brown will bring her remarkable voice to the Moores’ Family Stage for a 75 minute set. If you were unable to see Ayla sing on American Idol, do not
miss this performance in Springfield, Maine.
The Springfield Fair, an award winning agricultural fair serving central and northern
maine, is thrilled to have AMERICAN IDOL
FINALIST Ayla Brown performing on our
main stage Friday, August 30th.
Ayla Brown has pursued a diverse range of
endeavors over the span of the last six years.
Her achievements include; being an American Idol Semifinalist, recording artist of four albums, national and local performances,
involvement in numerous charitable causes, National Anthem singer for the Philadelphia
76ers, and national news correspondent for The Early Show on CBS. From 2006-2010,
Ayla was a NCAA Division 1 Student/Athlete and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Boston College. In January of 2012, Ayla released a self-titled country
album. Her first release, “Goodbye for Good,” stayed strong at #1 on CDbaby.com’s Country Rock, Country Pop, and Overall Country charts for weeks, beating out artists such as
Willie Nelson. All of the tracks were recorded at Ronnie’s Place in Nashville, TN, studio of
the legendary country star, Ronnie Milsap. The album was produced by Ayla and she also
co-wrote seven out of the nine tracks on the CD. Currently, Ayla’s self-titled CD is charting on the Billboard chart in the Northeast section of the United States. Ayla released a
patriotic album titled, “Heroes and Hometowns” in November of 2012 and the physical CD
is available on www.aylabrown.com. “Pride of America” is the first single off the album and
is available on all digital retailers.
And we are pleased to be able to offer some incredible pricing for tickets. Individual admission will be only $12. PLUS, we will have a one-day only, car load price of $25!!! Friday
night, August 30th only, for everyone in one vehicle (back of pickups don’t count) the total
entrance fee is only $25 FOR THE ENTIRE CAR LOAD! It gets better still. Friday is still
Military appreciation night at the fair. For anyone bringing their military ID or DD-214, they
get in absolutely FREE! Thank you for serving! We are all grateful and proud of you.
If that isn’t enough, all carnival rides are still included with your paid admission! Unbelievable entertainment at extremely low pricing. We want to start off the 2013 Springfield Fair
with a bang and we think that we have done just that. Come see American Idol finalist Ayla
Brown at the Springfield Fair. All tickets sold day of show only.

Opening for American Idol Finalist - Ayla Brown
Travis James Humphrey
Friday, August 30th
7:00 p.m.
National Anthem
6:50 p.m.
Born in northern Maine, Travis achieved national recognition at a young age
with the American Boychoir School. During the his time with the American
Boychoir, he traveled to three countries, 26 states, and shared the stage with
Ladysmith Black Mambaazo, John Williams, Pete Seeger, and other world-renowned musicians.
Travis then became a Maine singing sensation, winning many major state
youth music awards. He acquired his musical foundation at this time by singing and playing guitar with his father in local bar bands.
The U.S. Air Force was quick to enlist Travis as the lead singer for the USAF
Band of LIberty, and quicker to promote him as the lead singer/songwriter
for their premier country band, Silver Wings. With Silver Wings, Travis performed at the Mo Bandy Theater, Nashville’s Riverfest, the Sylvan Theater,
CBS’ Today show, and other notable venues.
Travis’ time with the Air Force ended in September 2002, and he now devotes his energy to pursuing a career as a solo artist. He performs at public
venues, clubs, private parties, weddings, funerals....anywhere there is a need
for exceptional musical talent.
HIs debut CD, Yellow Cat Blues, was released in August 2002. Now that he
is separated from the military; Travis, his wife, and their two cats have very
happily moved back to the great state of Maine. Travis now has two additional
albums out and they are exceptional.
If you enjoy good music, you do not want to miss Travis James Humphrey.
He is a supremely talented musician and performer. Mark this date down on
your calendar - Friday August 30th at 7:00 p.m. On the Moores Family Stage
at the Springfield Fairgrounds.

PRICING FOR THE 2013 FAIR
Over the years we have tried hard to keep our admission and ride
prices as the lowest in Maine. For the past 22 years we, along with the
Houlton Fair, have been the least expensive fairs in Maine. We still include
our all day ride bracelets with the price of admission. A remarkable value
compared to the price of nearly everything else in our lives.
Although our 2013 pricing has changed somewhat, we still offer a great
deal.
• For kids under 3 years old - no charge - for all 4 days
• Seniors (62 and older) will have special pricing of $7 each on
Saturday, Sunday & Monday
• Friday is $12 per person OR $25 per car load
• Saturday is $10 per person (3-61)
• Sunday is $12 per person (3-61)
• Monday is $10 per person (3-61)
Remember - all of our pricing includes unlimited daily carnival rides
(bungee, bull riding & laser tag not included). This pricing also includes
all of our entertainment. There are no add on fees at the Springfield Fair.
Pay admission and parking and see quality entertainment each and every
day. When a round of mini golf is $8 and a move is $8 and a cup of coffee
is $1.75 and a loaf of bread is $4 and...the Springfield Fair is a deal. Outstanding and fun family entertainment.

award a special ribbon to the first place winner of the Individual/Family
Agricultural Exhibits.
Dorothy McGaw Memorial Award
In honor of former Exhibit Hall Superintendent Dot McGaw, a special
ribbon will be awarded to the exhibit that best embodies the spirit of the
Springfield Fair.
Exhibition Hall Best of Show
Each year, the “Wallace and Reta Ritchie Award” will be given for best
overall item exhibited (any age). Exhibitors’ names will be engraved on a
permanent plaque in the Exhibit Hall. This award honors excellence and
care in craftsmanship, which Wallace and Reta so much appreciated. A
$25.00 premium will also be awarded.
Orie Oliver Memorial Award
The family of Orie Oliver, farmer, dairyman and a Springfield fairgoer for
70 years, has established this ribbon in his memory.
The Valued Seniors Award
(AKA the Old Tymers Award)
We have added a new and special award, offered to one exhibitor who is
over the age of 70. This $25.00 premium will be awarded for any exhibit
displayed in the exhibit hall by a person over the age of 70. Judging to be
determined solely by the exhibit superintendent or their assigns. Our older
generation is a much valued, but vastly underutilized part of our society.
Spend time with an “old tymer,” listen to their stories, watch their actions,
see how they have lived their lives and learn from them. Then, mow their
lawn or wash their dishes and thank them for setting an example by which
we can live our lives .... and pass it forward.

State Of Maine Two-Crusted
Blueberry Pie Contest- Contest #2
Judging Guidelines: All pies must contain only blueberries. Pies made from
a combination of fruits will be disqualified from judging (such pies will also be
disqualified at the state level). The recipes must be cooked as submitted. Judges
will eliminate from consideration any pie which obviously is not done as the written recipe states (ex.: a pie which contains raisins, but no raisins are listed in the
written recipe).
Judging will be done in three basic categories as follows: Appearance - Overall
eye appeal, uniformity of shape and color and appearance of the crust; Taste - Crust
and filling will be judged separately. In evaluating the crust, flavor, texture and
color will be considered. In evaluating the filling, flavor and consistency will be
evaluated; and Preparation - This will be determined from the written recipe which
will accompany each entry. Ease of preparing the recipe and how clearly the recipe
ingredients and instructions are written will be evaluated.
Scoring Guidelines: Supplied score sheets will be used. The categories will be
rated as follows: Overall Appearance - 30 points; Crust (flavor, texture, color) - 30
points; Filling (flavor, consistency) - 30 points; and Ease of Preparation/Clarity
of Recipe - 10 points.
Judges shall total the points for each entry. The contest coordinator will compile
the judges’ scores on a summary sheet. The positions will be determined by the
total number of points given by all the judges. In the event two or more contestants
have identical point totals, the judges shall determine the order of finish by mutual
agreement. All decisions shall be final. Judging will take place at approximately
1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1, in the Pavilion.
Winners receive ribbons and qualifications for the state championship pie contest
held in January.

The Springfield Fair Amateur Talent Show
The talent show takes place on the Moores
Family Stage, in front of the grandstand
at 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 2. Each act has a
maximum four minute time limit. This is a
family-oriented fair, and children are always
present, so acts must be appropriate to such
an audience. Contestants space is limited.
Singers using a backing tape as musical
accompaniment must have instrumental
tapes only - voice-over singing along with
songs is not allowed.
There are two classes of acts. The first
class of the day is the children’s division,
aged 14 and under. The second half of the
show features adults, aged 15 and over.
Prize money is the same for each of the two
classes and is as follows:
1st - $100
2nd - $75
3rd - $50
4th - $25
Non-cash Honorable Mentions may also be awarded at the discretion of the
judges. Because of limited space in each of the divisions, contestants are strongly
encouraged to pre-register with Talent Show Coordinator Amy Banks prior to
Aug. 29. Contestants may pre-register by calling 738-2096 or by explaining their
act in writing and mailing it to: Amy Banks, 2881 Lee Road, Lee, ME 04455.
Contestants may register during the day of the show as long as space on the
program is available. Register in pavilion between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Monday.
Bring your talent! Over 1,000 people will watch and applaud your efforts!
The “Wildwoods Band” will be performing before the Talent Show. They will
handle the sound and lights. However, it is important for contestants to know that
the band’s amps, instruments and personal equipment will not be available for use.
Demolition Derby
The Springfield Fair Demolition Derby will be held Monday, Sept. 2, at 4 p.m.
in front of the Grandstand. Registration for the derby is at 2:00 p.m. (north end
of pavilion). The Demolition Derby will be run in heats with winners advancing
to the big purse round. Total purse is $950. Complete rules and regulations and
other details are printed on the entry forms, which are available at many local
businesses. Or you may call Tim Worster at 738-5800 or 290-4240 to have your

Remember to Beautify Your
Junker for the Demo Derby!
When preparing your car for this year’s derby, you may want to pay
special attention to the paint job. The best paint job at the derby will win
fancy ribbons to commemorate the artwork! You have a chance to win
trophies and prize money if you are successful, mechanically, but you also
have a “second chance” to win something if your car has the most interesting, creative and fun paint job. Cars will be judged as they enter the first
heat to show them off before the mud, scratches, dings and dents take over.
Please keep all design work appropriate to a family fair.
Commercial Space Available
Ground space will be rented at a reasonable rate for the display of automobiles, farm implements, eating, retail & novelty sales or amusement
places, or for any other use that may be deemed of proper nature for this
exhibition. For commercial rental, call Kirk Ritchie at 738-2888.

Did you know that you could rent our pavilion? Yup. It can be used for
birthdays, reunions, weddings or even a dance. The cost is only $250 per
day and you get to use the tables and chairs at no additional charge. If you

PINATA CONTEST
We’ll be crackin’ open a few pinatas during the
fair on Sat. at 2:00, Sun. at 11:30 and Mon. at
10:30 we will have pinatas to bust open. This will
be held in the new arena near the bandstand in the
field. We will have pinatas full of “something,”
with two age groups participating. The age groups
will 3-8 years and 9-12 years.
Whichever child breaks open the pinata will
be able to take one handful of the contents — as
much as he//she can carry in one hand. Then the
remaining “stuff” will be shared equally by the other kids in that age group.
It’s possible that not every child will be able to take a turn at hitting it. The
youngest will go first. Each child gets two swings. HAVE FUN!
NEW MIDWAY SWINGS IN
FOR 2013
The Springfield Fair is thrilled to have hired a new carnival and midway provider for our 2013 fair. MILLER AMUSEMENTS, from NH, will be providing the carnival this year, including rides, games and food joints. They have
a wonderful reputation and have clean, safe and fun rides. Their equipment is
spectacular to look at and ride on. They are serious about only operating quality equipment. For years they have been working their “stuff” at the Windsor
Fair over Labor Day Weekend. This year…..Springfield!
If you would like to see photos of most of their rides, go to www.milleramusements.com. We have been trying to get them to consider coming to
Springfield since 1999. After 13 long years we have succeeded. I know that
you will be as thrilled as we are to have them with us. They are a family run
business and their people are professionals. Clean, courteous, polite and they
enjoy what they do. They will have some rides that we have never seen before
in Springfield!
After two tough years at the ole Fayuh (four days of rain in 2011 and then
a “no show” for our 2012 midway) we are ready to rock your worlds! Great
rides for the smaller fair folks and lots of big ones for the less faint of heart. In
addition to Miller Amusements, we will be bringing back the bungy jumping
and mechanical bull riding along with G-Force Laser tag in a arena 50% larger
than the one we had them in last year. Mutton Bustin’ is back and we will be
able to allow the bigger kids to try their hand at ridin’ the rough string.

There will be a penalty for cutting out.
2. WAFER CUTS

tempting to cut the wafers as thin as possible. If contestants cut out an additional cut will be made with 3/10” penalty.
