OUR POTTERY
With a flare for style and consciousness of
function, we have created a style of pottery that
is beautiful enough to display, yet durable enough
for everyday use. Since 1972 we’ve taken pride in
making each piece by hand at our Georgetown
studio. We love thinking that our customers aren’t
just buying pottery, but a small piece of us as well.
For most people, turning one’s passion into a career is
merely a dream—for a lucky few, it is a reality.
In June of 1971, when Jeff Peters decided to embark on a cross-countr y road trip to Maine with two
college friends and sixty dollars, he had no idea his life was about to change. Raised in California, Jeff
had never been to the east coast and immediately fell in love with Maine’s rocky coast, its people and
the small fishing village of Georgetown. After spending the summer in Georgetown he decided to
forgo the last year of his ceramics degree in New Mexico, and in 1972 began Georgetown Potter y in a
one-room log cabin on the way to Reid State Park. With hard work and lots of luck the business slowly
grew and Jeff was able to stop working his par t time jobs and focus solely on the potter y. Nearly 40
years later the Georgetown Potter y is still handcrafting fine porcelain on the coast of Maine. The log
cabin has been made into a showroom, but the mission remains unchanged—to create beautiful and
cleverly designed, functional potter y that’s made to be used and last generations.
“I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to make
my living doing something I love. I still have
the same passion for pottery now as I did
when I started. It’s hard not to be motivated
when working alongside such talented people.
Here at the studio we’re constantly trying to
create new pieces that are the perfect balance
between function and style—that’s what keeps
me excited.”
Our offerings include items for the kitchen, bath,
dining room, garden and home. Everything is
microwave, dishwasher, and oven safe, and as
always lead free. The brushwork patterns celebrate
the beauty of Maine, while our exquisite glazes are
vibrant and colorful with a decidedly Asian feel.

HAMADA & PERSIMMON
GLAZED
Our glazed patterns range from delicate
and subtle to vibrant and bold. All of the
glazes used we’re proud to have developed
here at the studio in Georgetown and are
the result of years of continual refinement
and experimentation. We apply a glaze or
combination of glazes to pieces once they’ve
been bisque fired, which aids the clay and
glazes in forming a beautiful and functional
surface. Flatter items such as plates, trays,
ikebanas and platters can then be decorated
with Zen, Wave, or Fish brushwork, which are
painted on using contrasting glazes.
It is during our 30-hour high temperature firing
process that the applied glazes liquefy, overlap
and combine– giving every piece its unique
appearance. It is why the brushwork can only
be applied to flat surfaces due to the glazes’
nature to run and slide down the piece during
the firing process.

Kiln & Glazes
Inside our kilns is where magic happens. It is
during the firing process that the clay, glazes,
and brushwork combine, melt, and turn into
Georgetown Pottery.
Our two custom high-fire kilns have been hand
built by Jeff using premium imported kiln bricks.
The 30-hour firings are monitored closely and
adjusted continually according to the weather,
humidity and atmospheric pressure. As the
atmosphere within the kiln changes and the
temperature climbs to 2400 oF the glazes begin
to react and the vibrant colors and unique
qualities of each piece develop.
Because of all the external factors affecting the
kiln, each firing is different. Even after 40 years,
opening each kiln is a surprise and a never
ending learning curve.

DINNERWARE
Our dinner ware has been designed with a classic style that is both durable and timeless. It is all
microwave, dishwasher and oven safe. We offer two styles of dinner and desser t plates–Regular and
Footed. The Regular Desser t and Dinner Plates feature a low profile and 8 & 10.5-inch diameters,
while the Footed Plates have a slightly higher profile, ringed foot, and 8.5 & 11-inch diameters.

The Tide Clock was one of our very first products. Jeff created it so he’d know when the tide
would be right to go for his lunch break and catch a few striped bass in the river. They run on
lunar time, 24 hours 50 minutes. The off center circle represents the height and direction of
the tide. Hand up is high tide, and hand down is low. Simply set to your local harbor or beach.
