India's Tata Power Solar has announced the completion of five solar power projects for the Chennai Silks
group.
The five solar projects totalling 5.2MW join another Chennai Silk 2MW solar power plant commissioned
by Tata last year, bringing the total solar generation capacity to 7.2MW.
The projects are located in Kangeyam of the Tirupur district in the state of Tamil Nadu and were completed
in 12 weeks.
The projects were installed for different group companies of The Chennai Silks group, including 1MW
arrays for Naachas Wind Energy, Space Textiles, and KTM Jewellery, and installations of 1.1MW for both
SCM International Impex and Sathy Silks.
Tamil Nadu suffers from frequent blackouts currently, with many manufacturers relying on diesel
generators. The new solar arrays will aid clean energy access in the state.
“The use of solar power in our retail showrooms has helped us reduce our energy costs while also enabling
us to reduce our carbon emissions,” said N. K. Nandhagopal, managing director of the Chennai Silks group.
The projects also generated local jobs; Tata Power Solar intends to maintain local employment
opportunities for the operation and maintenance of the plants.

Tata Power Solar, India’s largest integrated solar player, has successfully executed five different solar
power projects for The Chennai Silks group, constituting a total of 5.2 MW solar power plant. Coupled
with the 2 MW solar plant commissioned last year by Tata Power Solar, the total installed solar power
capacity of the group comes to 7.2 MW.These five different solar projects, executed for different group
companies of The Chennai Silks group, are located in Kangeyam of Tirupur district in Tamil Nadu and
achieved power generation in 12 weeks. The five group companies include: Naachas Wind Energy PVt.
Ltd. (1 MW), Space Textiles PVt. Ltd. (1 MW), KTM Jewellery (P) Ltd. (1 MW), SCM. International Impex
(1.1 MW) and Sathy Silks PVt. Ltd. (1.1 MW).
Power shortage is a major issue in Tamil Nadu, with several manufacturing facilities in the region suffering
from power shortage and relying on expensive diesel generators. For The Chennai Silk's group, venturing
into solar power is a step towards making solar a mainstream source of power generation.“We installed
these solar plants for captive consumption of power, as well as to avail of the accelerated depreciation
benefits. The use of solar power in our retail showrooms has helped us reduce our energy costs while also
enabling us to reduce our carbon emissions by 890 grams/kWh. Tata Power Solar’s experience and
capability in swiftly executing solar power plants have been the primary reasons to choose them, time
and again.” says Mr. N. K. Nandhagopal, MD, The Chennai Silks group.
Tata Power Solar had engaged local contractors for 45 days of field work, creating a range of job
opportunities for the region. Tata Power Solar continues to extend job opportunities for the operations
and maintenance of these captive power plants.“This project exemplifies our ability to execute complex
and simultaneous solar projects, backed by our strong lineage of quality performance and resource
optimization. We take pride in our association with The Chennai Silks group to execute seven solar power
projects for them in a period of two years.” said Dr. Arul Shanmugasundram, EVP Projects and CTO, Tata
Power Solar. These ground-mounted solar power plants were commissioned in an area of 25 acres of land.
In addition, small tracker systems were installed at some of the plants. The plant is continually managed,
with a centralized monitoring system and an onsite operations team.

Power shortage is a major issue in Tamil Nadu, with several manufacturing facilities in the region suffering
from power shortage and relying on expensive diesel generators. For The Chennai Silk's group, venturing
into solar power is a step towards making solar a mainstream source of power generation.
"We installed these solar plants for captive consumption of power, as well as to avail of the accelerated
depreciation benefits. The use of solar power in our retail showrooms has helped us reduce our energy
costs while also enabling us to reduce our carbon emissions by 890 grams/kWh. Tata Power Solar's
experience and capability in swiftly executing solar power plants have been the primary reasons to choose
them, time and again." says Mr. N. K. Nandhagopal, MD, The Chennai Silks group.
Tata Power Solar had engaged local contractors for 45 days of field work, creating a range of job
opportunities for the region. Tata Power Solar continues to extend job opportunities for the operations
and maintenance of these captive power plants.
"This project exemplifies our ability to execute complex and simultaneous solar projects, backed by our
strong lineage of quality performance and resource optimization. We take pride in our association with
The Chennai Silks group to execute seven solar power projects for them in a period of two years." said Dr.
Arul Shanmugasundram, EVP Projects and CTO, Tata Power Solar.
These ground-mounted solar power plants were commissioned in an area of 25 acres of land. In addition,
small tracker systems were installed at some of the plants. The plant is continually managed, with a

Indian solar products maker Tata Power Solar (TPS) said Thursday it has put into operation 5.2 MW of
solar capacity in the state of Tamil Nadu for local textile specialist Chennai Silks Group.
Each of the five projects was ordered from a different group company within Chennai Silks. The newly
completed 5.2 MW represent the second phase of a 7.2-MW solar scheme, the first phase of which Tata
Power commissioned in July 2013.
The solar systems are located in Tirupur district’s municipality of Kangeyam. Tata Power Solar explained
that solar energy is a very attractive option in the region because Tamil Nadu state suffers from a large
energy deficit, forcing certain local manufacturing facilities to rely on expensive diesel generators.
"For The Chennai Silk's group, venturing into solar power is a step towards making solar a mainstream
source of power generation," Tata said.
Tata Power Solar will also be responsible for the operations and maintenance (O&M) of the solar farms.

TATA POWER INSTALLS 5.2 MW OF PV POWER FOR INDIAN TEXTILE GROUP
OCTOBER 6, 2014
PHOTON INFO
Indian solar manufacturer and EPC contractor Tata Power Solar (TPS) has completed the installation of
five new solar arrays totaling 5.2 MW for the Chennai Silks group, which owns a number of textile shops
across the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Coupled with the 2 MW PV power plant TPS built for the group last
year, the Chennai Silks group now owns 7.2 MW of PV power plants. The five new megawatt-size solar
systems, executed for different companies within the Chennai Silks group, are located in Kangeyam, in
the Tirupur district of Tamil Nadu. All of the PV plants built for the textile group are ground-mounted solar
parks, and some of the systems rely on solar trackers. Power shortages are a major issue in Tamil Nadu,
with several manufacturing facilities in the region having to rely on expensive diesel generators. The PV
installations will provide the Chennai Silks group with more reliable energy. »We installed these solar
