As of August 24th we have 48,074 service hours, which is almost halfway to our target of 100,000 service hours. The current dollar value of a service hour is $23.07. This value is defined as the estimated cost per hour it would have taken the agencies we serve to pay someone else to perform the work we provided by volunteering. This means the 48,074 service hours we have provided this year are worth $1,109,067 to the agencies we support statewide. What impact does that make? It means the money these agencies save can be used to support people who need help. Every time you volunteer, and the people in your chapter volunteer, we stand together to support people that need us. Please take time to submit your service hours in the CARES system. We will total the service hours at the end of October so we can celebrate your accomplishments during the Annual Meeting. On November 7th, we will come together to celebrate your accomplishments at the 54th Annual Meeting. Chapter Presidents, be on the lookout for the “Call to Annual Meeting,” which should be mailed out next week. Please make sure that you get all of your information returned to the state office as quickly as possible so that we can highlight your accomplishments in the presentations at the meeting. I’m really looking forward to spending time with each Citizens Chapter, and thanking you for all of the fantastic work you’ve done this year. “Love Can Build a Bridge” is a song written by Naomi Judd, Paul Overstreet and John Barlow Jarvis, and recorded by the country music duo The Judds. It was released in December 1990. A new version was later recorded by Cher, Chrissie Hynde, Neneh Cherry, and singer/guitarist Eric Clapton. This song contains lyrics that really speak to power of coming together for a common cause, which is what we do every day through our participation in Citizens. Thank you for continuing to positively impact the lives of the people we serve! Cheryl Davis “Love Can Build A Bridge” The Judds I’d gladly walk across the desert with no shoes upon my feet To share with you the last bite of bread I had to eat I would swim out to save you in your sea of broken dreams When all your hopes are sinking, let me show you what love means Love can build a bridge Between your heart and mine Love can build a bridge Don’t you think it’s time? Don’t you think it’s time? I would whisper love so loudly, every heart could understand That love and only love can join the tribes of man I would give my hearts’ desire so that you might see The first step is to realize that it all begins with you and me Love can build a bridge Between your heart and mine Love can build a bridge Don’t you think it’s time? Don’t you think it’s time? When we stand together, it’s our finest hour We can do anything, anything Keep believing in the power!
