NO LIMITS
Past and Future
The Mooloolaba Outrigger Canoe Club Inc. was formed in 1990 with approximately 20 active members
who met for training on a vacant block of land on the Mooloolah River at Kawana with one borrowed
canoe.
From these humble beginnings, the club has grown to over 200 active members with teams
competing around the world in all divisions making the Mooloolaba Outrigger Canoe Club one of
Australia’s largest and strongest. Members come from Brisbane to Noosa and the club has a very
successful novice programme to attract new members.
In October 2013, Mooloolaba OCC was the first club in Australia to launch the NO LIMITS program for
adaptive paddlers, giving people with physical disabilities the opportunity to train and race outrigger
canoes at club, state, national and international levels. The national NO LIMITS program is also based
at Mooloolaba Outrigger Canoe Club and supported by researchers at the University of the Sunshine
Coast. In just four months of training, two NO LIMITS crews (12 people with physical disabilities)
qualified to represent Australia at the 2014 World Sprints in Rio.
“
The MOCC club is also immensely proud of the amount of junior members it has attracted who
represent 35% of the total club membership. This success has been driven by a 5 year plan of
recruiting and coaching under the direction of Australia’s most experienced paddlers and coaches.
“
The future of the NO LIMITS program and sport here in Mooloolaba is in the hands of the national
coordinator and coach Dr Gayle Mayes and an experienced steering committee. The paddlers have
enjoyed success at every race event and considerable media coverage.

The national NO LIMITS program is based at Mooloolaba Outrigger Canoe Club and offers sponsors
an opportunity to promote their business to thousands of outrigger paddlers at various regattas and
to the general public on Mooloolaba’s beaches, across Australia and around the world. The NO LIMITS
program also enjoys fantastic support from local media. See the appendices which show the media
coverage over the past few years.
INTERNATIONALLY: The NO LIMITS team will be competing at the World Sprints in Rio in 2014 and the
World Sprints in Kawana in 2016.
NATIONALLY: The NO LIMITS team competed for the first time at the National Sprints in January and
the National Marathons in August. They will be competing at OC6 and OC2 regattas throughout the
year until the World Sprints in 2016 and the National Sprints in 2017.
KAWANA,
SUNSHINE
COAST
The Mooloolaba Outrigger Canoe Club is thrilled to have been allocated the OC6 National Marathon
Titles through 2017. This gives our club a great opportunity to showcase outrigger canoe racing and
give many paddlers, family and friends from around Australia an opportunity to experience outrigger
canoeing in this fantastic location.
NO LIMITS paddlers and their canoes are on the waters of Mooloolaba and Kawana seven days a
week as crews run through training sessions. This is great exposure to both visitors and locals. Your
sponsorship will help support NO LIMITS activities from local club level to national and international
level , providing a unique opportunity with a growing niche in the sport.
