London.
Lee Valley VeloPark

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park
London
E20 3AB
United Kingdom
Please note: The Lee Valley VeloPark and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park have changed
significantly since the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012. Therefore please be prepared
for some locations, arrangements and processes to be different.
Travel and transport
We strongly recommend travelling by public transport to Lee Valley VeloPark. Please plan
your journey ahead of your visit to check for any planned closures or engineering works.
By train
Both Stratford (served by Central and Jubilee Underground lines, DLR, National Rail and
London Overground) and Stratford International (served by DLR and Southeastern high
speed services from St Pancras International) are just twenty minutes’ walk from Lee Valley
VeloPark. For the latest train travel information visit http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ and
https://tfl.gov.uk/
By Bus
Several bus routes connect to Stratford and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Routes 388, 308,
339, 97 and N205 all stop near Lee Valley VeloPark. For more information visit tfl.gov.uk
By Bike
There are cycle routes connecting Lee Valley VeloPark to local residential areas as well as
the cycle routes through Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The venue is close to Sustrans
National Cycle Network Route 1 and Cycle Superhighway CS2. A limited number of bike
racks are available at the venue although it is anticipated these will be in high demand during
the event. Bikes are parked at the owner’s risk and you will need to bring your own lock.
Parking
There is no media car parking at the Lee Valley VeloPark during this event so we strongly
advise travelling by public transport. The closest car parks are at Westfield shopping centre
and Stratford International station.
A limited number of spaces for blue badge holders are available outside the velodrome.
These must be pre-booked by emailing your name, vehicle registration, blue badge number
and company working for to trackworld [email protected] along with details of
which session parking is required for. Blue badge holders who do not pre-book a space may
find that none are available on the day.

Tier 1
Tier 1 written press journalists will have access to working spaces in the media tribunes on
the spectator concourse. The media tribunes are located in the spectator concourse and are
accessible by gangway 206. There are 70 working spaces available to written press and each
is equipped with power and cable internet. Wireless internet will also be available in this area
but please come prepared to use cable internet as this will be more reliable in a full venue.
Written press with tier 1 accreditation will also have access to the track centre infield including
the team areas and mixed zone. As an exception, please note that no interviews of the top
three riders will be allowed in the team areas between the end of racing and the award
ceremonies. The first interviews to be conducted with the top three riders will take place in the
mixed zone.
Tier 2
Written press with tier 2 accreditation will have access to the ground floor media centre which
is equipped with 64 working stations, cabled internet access and power points. Wireless
internet will be available in the ground floor media centre but please come prepared to use
cable internet as this will be more reliable in a full venue. A feed showing the racing will be
available to view in the media centre.
A limited number of tier 2 journalists will also have access (by request and
subject to availability) to the track centre infield and team areas on a temporary
basis with an additional bar code added to accreditation passes and an orange
bib. Bar codes and bibs will be distributed by the Wings Media Centre Manager
in the track centre (red bib) photographers’ area.
Please note that an extra deposit of £50 / €50 will be asked for this additional access.
During medal ceremonies, tier 2 journalists will have temporary access to the mixed zone,
located near the podium. We ask all journalists to prioritise using the mixed zone for rider
interviews. Anyone wishing to interview riders outside of the medal ceremonies/mixed zone
should contact the press officer for the relevant team. A list of contacts will be provided to all
registered media in a separate communication.
Please note: it is at the discretion of a cyclist and his/her support team as to when or if they
are available for media interviews. Riders may not be available for interviews if they are riding
in future events or are needed for doping control procedures.
Photographers
Red bib photographers
Photographers allocated a red bib will have access to the track apron and
track centre infield and team areas. They will also have access to a working
area in the track centre which will be equipped with working spaces, cabled
internet and power points.
Yellow bib photographers
Photographers allocated a yellow bib will have access to the spectator
concourse including designated photographers’ ‘spots’ and to the medal
ceremony area during podium presentations. Access to the track centre infield
and team areas will be granted (when possible) on a temporary basis.
Medal ceremonies
Photographers may take photographs from behind the roped off area in front of the podium
with priority given to red bib photographers. Please follow the instructions of the media staff
working in this area and bear in mind that the area in front of the roped off area is reserved for
the host broadcaster.
Guidance for photographers
A briefing for photographers will take place on Wednesday 2 March at 12:30pm in the ground
floor press room. Photography bibs will be distributed following this briefing and subsequently
throughout the competition. Subsequently, bibs will be distributed and returned from the
Wings Media Manager’s desk in the track centre ‘red bib photographers’ area’. Bibs require a
deposit of £50 or a professional press/photographer card.
Photographers must follow the instructions of race officials at all times. Race officials may
remove photographers from the track apron at their discretion.
Photographers shooting on the track apron must wear their red bib at all times.
Photographers on the track apron are responsible for themselves and any consequences of
their behaviour and must stay within 1.5 metres of the inner fence at all times.
Photographers may not place any equipment including tripods, bags and clothing on the
apron in case a rider needs to exit the track unexpectedly.
Please be aware of what is happening on the track at all times and never turn your back on
the cyclists who will always travel in an anti-clockwise direction on the track. Please also take
care not to impede race officials in their management of the event.
Please do not step in front of the infield cameras as the event is being broadcast live on
television.
During the Keirin events, please be aware that the derny will exit the track in the back straight
with two and a half laps to go.
General information
Spectator stands
Media will not be allowed to sit or stand in the spectator seating area. All areas will be
signposted and if you need assistance please ask a member of the press team.
Medal ceremonies
Medal ceremonies will take place as per the schedule in the programme, although these
timings are also subject to change.
Refreshments
Self-service tea and coffee are available in the ground floor press room throughout each
session. The Lee Valley VeloPark cafe (on the spectator concourse) will be open during the
event and serves a selection of hot and cold food and drinks. During competition a number
of food and drink outlets will also be available on the spectator concourse.
Filming
The rights for continuous filming of the event are restricted to the authorized parties. Filming
for broadcast (including online) may only take place by written permission of UCI. Please refer
to the broadcast contact details at the back of this document.
Press conferences
Press conferences will be organised if required at the discretion of the UCI Press Officer.
Media will be notified of any press conferences by email and details will be communicated in
the media centre and by media staff in the tribunes. Media are not permitted to set up laptops
or working equipment within the press conference room. Press conferences will take place in
the ground floor press room.
Security and equipment
We ask that you please keep your equipment in the media areas as tidy as possible so it does
not cause obstruction or hazard to other people working in the media centre.
Lockers will be available on a first come first serve basis on the internal and external
concourse close to the media centre press room. All lockers will be emptied and checked at
the end of each day, so no items must be left overnight. The use of the lockers is free of
charge.
No responsibility is taken by the organisers for any equipment or valuables belonging to
media. If you have any concerns regarding security or safety please refer them to a member
of the press team who will contact someone accordingly.
BROADCAST MEDIA
All access to the infield for broadcast media (TV and radio personnel) will be organised
according to the different tiers detailed below. In order to provide the broadcast crews with the
best service possible, bibs should be collected as soon as possible upon arrival from the UCI
broadcast contacts mentioned at the end of the document.
For organisational reasons, please note that a £50 / €50 deposit will be required for bibs.
General access and restrictions
Host Broadcaster
As dedicated production partner, the host broadcaster’s team will be allowed
to access all areas in order to ensure a first class television signal at
European Broadcasting Union’s standard. The host broadcaster’s team are
therefore the only audiovisual media allowed to access the apron during the
event.
Rights holders
Rights holders will have permanent access to their respective areas in the
mixed zone (RH’s corridor/dedicated position) and the team areas in the
infield. As an exception, please note that no interviews with the top three
riders will be allowed in the team areas between the end of racing and the
respective award ceremony. Therefore, the first interviews to be conducted
with the top three riders will take place in the mixed zone.
Non-rights holders
Without any additional access agreed with the concerned rights holders, nonrights holders have limited access to the NRH’s corridor in the mixed zone
during award ceremonies only.
Access to team areas will only be granted on a temporary basis (access
granted for session’s time slots by the UCI TV team) with an additional bar
code added to accreditation passes and an orange bib. Once a time slot has
been attributed, bar codes and bibs will be distributed by the Wings Media
Centre Manager in the track centre photographer’s area. Please note that an
extra deposit of £50/€50 will be asked for this additional access.
In addition to the below restrictions, no filming of the official racing nor the award ceremonies
is allowed.
TV Marquee
A broadcast marquee will be installed outside of the Lee Valley VeloPark, providing broadcast
media with 42 working spaces equipped with power and wireless. Located in the TV
Compound (please refer to map on page four), this tent will be provided with international
feeds through giant screens.
VENUE SAFETY INFORMATION
Venue Evacuation
In the event that an evacuation of the building is required, please follow the instructions of
the security and stewarding personnel. Please exit the building calmly and quickly and
gather near the team containers (car park 8) towards the park (media working in the tribunes
will be directed to the Timberlodge assembly point). It is very important you do not attempt to
remove equipment during an evacuation as this could obstruct and reduce the free flow of
people exiting the building.
Lost Property
Any lost property should be handed in to the nearest steward, media staff member or to the
Lee Valley VeloPark reception on the ground floor where they will keep a record of any
property handed in.
Lost Children
Any lost children found, should be identified to the nearest steward. The steward will follow
the event procedure and arrange for a PA announcement to be made.
A missing child should also be reported to the nearest steward who will alert the venue
control centre

About Lee Valley VeloPark
•
Lee Valley VeloPark features the velodrome, which was used at the London 2012
Olympic and Paralympic Games and a remodelled Olympic BMX track, alongside five
miles (8km) of challenging mountain bike trails and a one mile (1.6km) floodlit road circuit
– the only venue in the world to offer these four cycling activities in one place.
•
Lee Valley VeloPark is the fastest track in the world and holds more world records than
any other velodrome.
•
In the first year of opening over 400,000 people walked through the doors of the iconic
Lee Valley VeloPark. Around 200,000 of those visited the venue to soak up the
atmosphere. More than 120,000 came to watch world class events and over 100,000
people cycled on one of the four circuits.
•
Lee Valley VeloPark has had over 1.5 million visitors since opening in 2014.
•
Olympic Champion Sir Chris Hoy and Team GB were consulted during the design
process of the 6,000 capacity velodrome to ensure the best conditions for athletes were
created. It was Sir Chris’ idea to have essential facilities in the track centre, which are
affectionately referred to by venue staff as “Chris Hoy’s toilets”.
•
The outer cladding of the velodrome is made from 5,000m² of Western Red Cedar timber.
•
92m³ of Siberian pine was used to create the velodrome track and 300,000 nails were
used to fix the track surface together.
•
It took 98 weeks for the velodrome build to be completed and a specialist team of 26
carpenters eight weeks to install the track.
•
The steepest sections of the track are at 42 degrees, hence the name of the venue’s
café.
