Newsletter - The Touchdown Club
2003 - 2004 Newsletter Letter From The President Dear Members, Serving as your President of The Arlington Touchdown Club has been an honor and a privilege. Working with such dedicated people made my tenure a memorable one. I wish to thank the Executive Board for filling i for me when I was unable to attend the designated meetings and for keeping me up to date on all the happenings going on in the club. The club enjoyed another successful year serving the young people of the town. Membership has greatly improved (although it has a way to go). Th Ostergren Awards Banquet proved very successful thanks to Bill Carey an his committee, The McAvoy Night and the Fathers, Sons and Daughters Night was another win-win for the C lub. Patriots Day, Town Day and the Golf Tournament gave the Town of Arlington a chance to know who we are and what we do for the youth of the town. I wish to thank all the committee chairmen and their committees for their hard work and dedication. I hope the new President and the Officers and Executive Board Members have a prosperous, successful and enjoyable year. Thanks again for giving me the opportunity to serve you as your President Sincerely, Rich Richard F. Jankowski Dear Fellow Members, The Touchdown Club of Arlington has just completed sixty years of service to the young people of Arlington. I wonder if the founding fathers anticipated the club’s long life when they sat down and formed the club. Through the years the club has seen members from many different fields. We are proud to claim business owners, doctors, lawyers, bankers, teachers, accountants, policemen and firefighters. These are just average men with a dedication to help the young people of the town. Without these loyal members the club could not accomplish all it has done in the past. Having has grown and changed in many ways it has become the finest organization helping the youth of Arlington. The club supports and contributes to over fifteen youth organizations each year and originated the Fitness and Health Center at Arlington High School. With the strong membership and community support the club will see many more years of promoting the social and scholastic welfare of its young people. The club has again fulfilled the many goals set back in September and sincerely thanks the membership for making this possible. Be proud to be a member of the Arlington Touchdown Club and please keep up the good work in keeping club strong The Editor OFFICERS AND EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBERS 2003-2004 President…………………………………….Richard F. The rain held off so the golfers were able to play. The day began with coffee and donuts followed by a shotgun start. At ten o’clock sub sandwiches of turkey, ham and cheese, tuna salad, chicken salad, Italian, and seafood salad were passed out. Cold beverages and coffee were available all day. After a day on the course, the players returned to the Sons of Italy Hall for a dinner of barbecued steak and chicken, baked beans, potato salad, garden salad, macaroni salad, and corn on the cob. After dinner, prizes were awarded to the golf and raffle holder winners. Last years first place winner came in first again this year (Bob Kaminer’s team from the Medford Cooperative Bank, Arlington Center Branch). Prizes for the winning team were four golf clubs. Second and third place winners and raffle tickets holders had a choice of golf clubs, golf bags, golf umbrellas golf balls, golf shoes, running shoes, sweat shirts, hats, razors, cameras and a variety of Braun electric products. The outing was a regularly scheduled dinner meeting and many non-golfers were able to attend. The club wishes to thank Tom Yewcic and his committee for making this year’s classic another success. Our logo was displayed on each side of the cars front door panels. Riding in the car with Joe was Pat Oppedisano and Richard Cusolito. Richard (our official photographer) took pictures of the days festivities. The club thanks the patriots Day Committee John Leone, Leo Doherty, Pat Oppedisano, Richard Cusolito and Bill Carey and all who helped to make the day a success. We are looking forward to next years parade. The Patriots Day Road Race The Arlington Touchdown Club and the Cambridge Savings Bank sponsor the Patriots Day Road Race. The race begins at Arlington / Lexington line and ends at the Arlington Boys and Girls Club. The “Fun Race” as it is now called is a 2.7 mile race broken down into the following groups: 9 and under; 1011; 11-13; 14-16; 17-20; 21-30; 31-40 and over forty. The race is open to all residents, male and female and Arlington Boys and Girls Club members, Trophies were awarded to the first place winners and runners up in each age group courtesy of the Cambridge Savings Bank and The Touchdown Club. Bill Carey represented the club at the starting line and at the boys and girls club helping Dan Brosnan in giving out the awards to the winners. Our thanks to Dan Brosnan’s committee and Bill Carey for making the race another success. Arlington Town Day 2004 Participating in Arlington Town Day gives the club the opportunity to have town wide exposure and allows us to show the community how much support we give to the young people of the town. The day also provides the club with another way to make a few dollars to help the youth of the Arlington. This year was a financial success. Every one had a good time. Mother Nature cooperated beautifully weather wise adding to the day’s success. The club raffled off many excellent prizes including an advanced Nintendo Game Boy Cube, An advanced Micro Box, and other computer game sets I don’t even know what they are or supposed to do. Setting up a booth for town day takes a lot of work. The club wishes to thank the Town Day Committee for all their efforts insuring a successful day: John Leone/Leo Doherty, co-chairmen, Mike McCabe, Irwin Grossman, Richard Cusolito, Peter Villandry, Pat Oppedisano, Ralph Canniff, Jim Carney, Gene Lucarelli, Tom Reidy, and Mike Tarantino. I hope I haven’t missed anyone. Membership Attendance 2003-2004 2003-2004 showed a marked improvement in members’ attendance for the year. The number of guests also showed and increase. Keep up the good work. This years report showed an increase of Seven percent up to Sixty-Five percent over last years Fifty-Eight percent. Although this increase is very encouraging we still have a long way to go. It would be nice and it is very possible to see a percentage rate around Ninety percent. This is not an unreasonable way to think. All it would take to reach this goal is a little more consideration from the members. The Board realizes that we all have other more pressing commitments that take up our time and those must come first, but we can still meet the club’s obligation and attendance requirements. As you know Guest Attendance is very important to the club. Guests are always welcome at the dinner meetings and members are encouraged to invite them to attend each month. The Board wishes to express their thanks to all those members who fulfill their attendance requirements and to those members who do their best to do so. If you have any suggestions on how to increase the attendance at each meeting, please do not hesitate to let the board know. They welcome any input from the membership. Your attendance at the monthly dinner meetings is very important as it allows the club to broaden the means of supporting the youth of Arlington instead of having to worry about trimming the support we now offer. Thank you for all your support in helping the Arlington Touchdown Club to remain a strong asset to the community. ~~~The Executive Board New Members of The Arlington Touchdown Club - 2003-2004 George T.
