Synopsis
Covers the majority of standards
applicable to door sets from
hinges to door selectors in
simple to understand chunks.
This course is designed for
delegates who have attended
the Foundations course and have
understood the implications
of the Constructions Product
Ddirective, regulatory reform
order and the implications of
specifications to the BS/EN
standards.
The course provides a
comprehensive understanding
of electric locks. It is strongly
recommended that delegates sit
the Foundations Course before
attending the Electric locking
course.
For perfect and efficient
installation.
All Abloy Door Operator
Installers must attend and pass
this course before their company
can purchase Door Automation
products from Abloy UK.
Understand the needs of a door
from its location within the
building and the use that the
door is subject to.
Recognise “Fire Doors”,
particularly now that the
Constructions Product
Regulations dictate the use of
Fire Tested hardware.
Understand the escape risks and
regulations applicable to public
buildings, [i.e. non-residential].
These standards and their use
are explained in detail, ensuring
that we only specify compliant
solutions.
The Regulatory Reform Order
has also changed the Specifiers
/Installers responsibility as
well as the End Users, making
self assessment of escape
requirements mandatory within
the work place.
Course notes will be provided,
in the form of “Best Practice
Guides”, covering the majority of
the standards covered.
MLA members can earn 3 CPD
points for attendance.
There is a short exam at the end
of each session, where a pass or
fail will be recorded.
The course will utilize the theory
and knowledge gained from the
Foundations course to develop
and defend Standards Compliant
Electric Locking Solutions for
Access Control Doors.
It will include differentiating
between the various basic
options for retro fit or new build
(Scandinavian, DIN, ANSI), and
the correct solution for different
door types and stiles ensuring
that these are both Fire and
Escape compliant.
The course will also discuss the
monitoring points available with
each individual lockcase, and reenforce the differences between
fail locked and fail unlocked, fail
safe and fail secure and Abloy’s
unique ability to provide escape
even when a lock is configured
fail locked, (on different sides of
the door).
The course provides an excellent
link from the foundations course
to the hands on electric locking
course
COURSE DURATION
FULL DAY
The course is hands on and
comprehensive, covering all of
the popular Abloy electric locks
and eff-eff electric releases.
The course splits into two
distinct disciplines covering:
Basic Electrics:
Understanding basic electrics,
transformers, Power Supply
units, relays, resistors, capacitors,
voltage regulators and simple
circuit.
Utilising the signals that the
electric lock can provide.
Connecting electric locks to
Access Control and door entry
systems.
Mechanical configuration:
Product overview: DIN,
Scandinavian, ANSI, ranges, of
electric locks.
Standard compliant solutions for
Fire Doors: emergency and panic
escape doors.
Lock re-handing: [left or right,
left or right hand reverse bolt].
The course is designed to ensure
that we create a perfect mortice
first time, every time; ensuring
that the lock is installed both
horizontally and vertically
correct at all times. In practice
we try to ensure a factory fit,
and mortice to doors that ARE
already hung.
Students will fit a lock with hand
tools, and also a lock with a
morticer jig, and other specialist
equipment purpose-built tools.
This allows installation with
confidence and helps reduce
installation time on door-bydoor bases.
Core drilling utilising specialist
jig attachments to the morticer,
virtually eliminating the risk of
drilling through the door face.
Our lecturers have over 40
years of lock fitting experience
between them.

This course was initially
designed to provide instruction
to Security Companies. However
experience has shown that
Locksmiths do attend and find
the course informative, learning
much from the day.
(Max. 6 places per course)

/ secure side.
