Victor Herbert‘s wonderful score—set in the bustling theatre world of Turn-of-the-Century New York, The Only Girl centers on a young
woman composer struggling against a curmudgeonly male librettist, with hilarious and unexpected results. A new performance edition
of the original Henry Blossom book was adapted for LOONY by stage director Michael Phillips. Recorded in Spring 2015 following live
performances at New York’s Symphony Space by a superb cast conducted by Maestro Gerald Steichen, and the latest in Albany’s
operetta series produced by John Ostendorf, The Only Girl features Victor Herbert’s great classic romantic melody “When You’re Away.”
The inspiration of LOONY president Carol Davis and vice-president David Kelleher-Flight, this CD project follows LOONY’s acclaimed
release last winter of Herbert’s Orange Blossoms.
