GETTING STARTED
This manual describes the Electrodata DS1/DS3/SONET EZ-REMOTE® Test Platform. We assume
the operator has some familiarity with DS1, DS3, SONET and ATM circuit conventions and terminology.
To become fully acquainted with the features of the EZ-REMOTE®, we recommend that the
operator read the LIGHT-MATE® manual as well as the applicable portions of the operating manual for
the EZ-TESTER® ST. Since operation of the LIGHT-MATE® and EZ-TESTER® ST is relatively
straightforward, you will be able to perform many tests by turning to Operation in Chapter 2 of both
manuals and reading the step-by-step procedures.
If you have questions concerning the proper operation of the EZ-REMOTE® and cannot find the
information, contact the factory by any means shown in chapter 3 of this manual.

MAINTENANCE
3.1 EZ-REMOTE Warranty
The EZ-REMOTE is warranted to be free of defects in material and workmanship for a period
of three (3) years from date of shipment to the original purchaser. During the warranty period,
Electrodata, Inc. will, at its option, either repair or replace your EZ-REMOTE if it proves to be defective
due to material or workmanship.
Electrodata, Inc. will pay the inbound and out-bound freight charges to return your EZ-REMOTE
to the factory for warranty service, providing you obtain a RETURN MATERIAL AUTHORIZATION (RMA)
number and ship in accordance with instructions from Electrodata, Inc.
The EZ-REMOTE warranty does not apply to defects resulting from misuse or abuse; to dents
and scratches to the cover, case, or front panel; or to field repairs or modifications not performed by,
or approved in writing by Electrodata, Inc.
Electrodata, Inc. shall not be liable for damages greater than the cost or replacement value of
the EZ-REMOTE.
3.2 Routine Maintenance and Testing
The EZ-REMOTE is a highly reliable solid state device that requires no adjustment. The only
routine maintenance required is the periodic cleaning of the fan filter as described in paragraph 3.3.
In case of problems with the test set, the self-test programs described in paragraph 3.4 should
be run to verify that the LM is operational. If the LM is found to be non-operational, it should be
returned to the factory for repair. Return authorization and shipping instructions must be obtained from
the factory before returning the test set. A note indicating the suspected failure or symptoms and
return address should be included with the unit when shipped.
3.3 Cleaning the Cooling Fan Filter
During operation, the EZ-REMOTE circuitry generates sufficient heat to require a cooling fan.
The fan is mounted on the right side of the rear panel and exhausts air through a filtered circular vent.
Intake air is drawn through a circular vent with a sponge filter mounted on the left side of the rear
panel. The filters must be kept free of debris buildup or heat damage to the LM may occur.
Clean the filters as required using a standard vacuum cleaner and hose applied over the black
filter retaining disk. If working conditions are such, more frequent cleaning may be required. Do not
reverse the operation of the vacuum cleaner or the filter may be blown into the EZ-REMOTE circuitry
and protection from debris will be lost.
The filters can be replaced by snapping out the plastic grills in front of them with a flat blade

3.4 Self-Test Procedure
The EZ-REMOTE is designed to perform a short power-on self-test that runs each time the test
set is turned on. In addition to it’s own test, the self-test operation will perform tests on the unit to
confirm normal operation. The EZ-REMOTE is designed with a comprehensive FULL SELF-TEST that
can be run by selecting FULL SELF-TEST on the MAIN MENU screen.

Returning Your EZ-REMOTE to the Factory
When Electrodata, Inc. confirms that you need to return your EZ-REMOTE to the factory for

outside of the carton, and send it to the address shown above or as directed by factory personnel.
