The Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA,
H.R. 1409, S. 560) does more than
take away secret ballot elections in unionization attempts: It empowers the
federal government to impose contracts on newly organized companies.
The government could set ways, benefits, work assignments, promotion procedures, and force changes to fundamental business operations, such as:
Wages & Bonuses, Employment Levels, Retirement & Health Care Plans,
Promotions Procedures, Work Assignments, Subcontracting and Closure,
Sale or Merger of a Business.

Twilight Golf Update
On May 18th, Chamber
Members teed it up at
Cambrian Ridge on
the Loblolly
Course. About 19
members were present to hit the links
and have lots of fun. This was a
lighter crowd than usual. It seemed
as though lots of folks were busy with
graduation or a prior engagement of
some sort. Give us some feed back if
this is something you would like to
continue.

Antioch East Baptist Church invites all children age 3 through grade 6 for our annual
Club VBS. They will participate in a journey filled with exciting bible stories, cool crafts,
theme-related recreation games and snack. VBS will be held from 8:30am until Noon on

Camellia Girl Scholarship
The Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce
awarded it’s first-ever $500.00 scholarship to
a Camellia Girl/Chamber Page this
year. The scholarship fund was set-up to
promote our program and award a deserving
senior.
Applicants were asked to submit community
service hours, participate in Chamber activities and write an essay entitled “What are
your Hopes for Greenville by the Year 2013.”
Casey Rogers, a senior at Fort Dale Academy was selected as the recipient. Casey is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve
Rogers. Casey will be attending the University of Alabama in the fall.
We hope the scholarship program will continue to grow! Thank you to all our Camellia
Girls/Chamber Pages for your valuable time.

2009 Achiever Award
As always, the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce was
proud to partner with the YMCA to sponsor the Achiever
Award Scholarship Program. The Program held on May 7th at
the First Baptist Church in Greenville, awarded two seniors a
$1,500.00 scholarship. We recognized senior male and female athletes from Butler County schools who exemplified
the attributes of Christian, community and academic leadership. Recipients of this year’s awards were Charles Windham
from McKenzie High School and Amber Andrews from
Greenville High School. The Chamber of Commerce would
like to congratulate these two outstanding students and commend those who were nominated for this prestigious award.

The Greenville Police Department is
hosting a Gun Safety and Awareness
Class on Thursday, June 4th from 9am
until 3pm at the Camellia Senior Center. Captain Randall Courtney will instruct participants on responsible gun
handling, firing and cleaning. After instruction the class will visit the firing
range. Call Mary Braden, 382-5670, to

firearm, ammunition and a sack lunch.
