Everything started with a dream
and a drawing in the sand. One
day, in 1968, Hobart (" Hobie ")
Alter, from Capristano Beach,
Southern California, famous for
his revolutionary surfboard
design and production,
created what was to
become the first mass
produced
beach
catamaran in the
world using asymmetrical hulls : the
Hobie Cat 14 had
arrived.
Very quickly, Hobie
and his friends started
out a small series production in California, and
virtually overnight the Hobie
" Way of Life " was born. In
1970, the big brother of the
14', the Hobie Cat 16
made its debut. Did
anyone imagine then
that Hobie Alter was
creating a catamaran

which was going to become in a
very short period the most important catararan class worldwide?
To date, more than 200 000 Hobie
Cats are sailed all over the world.
Since 1971, Hobie Cats have been
produced in Europe, in Southern
France. The Toulon based facility is
probably one of the most modern
small boat factories in the world.
State of the art production procedures incorporating strict quality
control, ensure that every product
is of the highest possible standards prior to dispatch. The OneDesign production is closely
controlled
by
the
IHCA
(International
Hobie
Class
Association) to maintain the very
strict Class Rules. Facts like ease of

The original Hobie cat, the Hobie Cat 14 is one foot longer than the Hobie 13, and includes the patented raised trampoline system for dryer sailing and performance proven asymmetrical hulls without daggerboards. In its Turbo version, the
Hobie Cat 14 is equipped with a furling jib and a trapeze. The 14 provides unmatched fun in the surf and is a great youth
trainer for the larger Hobie Cat 16. The Hobie Cat 14, being recognised by the ISAF as an International Class, has proved
