GEORGES ROAD PRIMARY SCHOOL NO. 4666 ‘Knowledge, Service, Happiness’ Website: www.stgeorges.vic.edu.au Week 4 Term 1— Thursday, February 18th 2015 Student Leadership: Has a high focus for us at St Georges Rd and we encourage all of our students to take on responsibilities and aspire to leadership positions. On Monday, Dr Sharman Stone, Federal Member for Murray; came to school to present us with a new Australian Flag. Rae-Nee Roberts and Noah Celatano accepted the flag on behalf of our school. It now flies proudly at the front of our school. Today, over 30 Grade 6 students presented speeches as part of the election to leadership positions for 2016. A lot of preparation and practice went into the lead-up. We were very proud of the quality of the student’s speeches. We finalised our Junior School Council Representatives last week. The program is focused on developing coordination, fine and gross motor skills and developing an interest disciplines of gymnastics. Our students love this program as you can tell from these photos! School Council: This year we have three parent vacancies on our School Council. Being nominated onto school council involves attending monthly school council meetings to be part of the governance of the school. Nomination forms are available at the front office. Our meetings are held of the third Wednesday on the month between 5:15 and 7:00pm. Nominations are now open for parent candidates. At our Annual General Meeting (Wednesday March 16th ) we will be electing a new School Council President and forming our new council for 2016. The period of service is generally 2 years, however, candidates can renominate for another period of service. We encourage all members of our community to consider this opportunity. School Photos: Our annual school photos will be taken on Friday February 26th. at school early, looking sharp and shiny for the school photos. Donations of Easter Eggs would be greatly appreciated. Please leave at the Front Office. Head Lice They don't care if the hair is long or short, clean or dirty. Head lice are an unavoidable fact of life for all school-aged kids. The best and cheapest way to remove them is with inexpensive conditioner and a nit comb. You will need to re-treat your child several times before all the eggs will be gone. CHANGE OF DETAILS Change of Detail Forms were sent home last week. Please update your details in particular if you have new phone numbers. If your details remain the same, please write your childs name on the form and then write across the form ‘No Changes’. Thank you. SCHOOL PHOTOS As mentioned on the front page, our school photos will be taken on Friday 26th February. Please ensure your child/ren is/are dressed in full school uniform. Photo order envelopes were sent home last week. Please confirm your order and place the exact money in the envelope, as we do not always have the required change at the office. The photo order envelopes are due back at the Front office by Thursday 25th February. ABSENCE NOTES: If your child is going to be/were absent, please fill in an absence note available from the office and occasionally in the newsletter, or using TiqBiz on your phone providing the reason your child was not at school. Students are acknowledged for their attendance achievements each semester. The class with the highest attendance rate each week will get an extra session in the Multimedia program after Friday’s assembly—which is a big incentive for our students!
