Ken Abdo co-presented A Beginner’s Guide to Entertainment Law, a live webinar for the ABA, on January 14th. Vice President of the GRAMMY Foundation, Scott Goldman, and ELI Program Chair, Ken Abdo, are pictured at right at the 16th Annual Entertainment Law Initiative Luncheon & Scholarship Presentation on January 24th in Beverly Hills, California. Kay Nord Hunt co-presented “Family Law: Child Relocation: How to Create an Effective Record to Succeed at the Trial Court” on February 12, presented by the Hennepin County Bar Association (HCBA). Lommen Abdo sponsored the Hudson Rotary/Daybreak Rotary Winter Gala on Saturday, February 15th, featuring The Elvis Show, a tribute by Joe Sir and the Rockabilly Rebel Band. Dan Young will be a judge for the 2014 Wisconsin Governor’s Business Plan Contest which encourages entrepreneurs in the seed, startup and early growth stages of high-tech Wisconsin businesses. The judging process began February 5th and the final judging takes place live on June 3, 2014. Ken Abdo gave his opinion in a Star Tribune article, “Prince stirs another controversy with $22 million lawsuit.” Lommen Abdo was a sponsor at the 2014 Winter Carnival Beer Dabbler. Ten thousand tickets were sold for the beer tasting event, which was held in 6º temps on the evening of January 25th at the State Fair Grounds. Stacey DeKalb is shown at right at Lommen Abdo’s table. The Expo will be held on May 13th at the Earle Brown Heritage Center from 2:30 to 6:00 p.m. Joseph Wolf was featured in an article at AlcoholbyVolumeBlog concerning the reopening of the brewery by the great-granddaughters of Joseph Wolf, founder of the brewery, which closed its doors when Prohibition was enacted. Jill Pavlak and Deb Loch were interviewed in a Pioneer Press article, “Urban Growler owners ‘obsessed’ with craft beer” and also in an article which appeared in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, “Women make their mark on the brewing industry.” Minneapolis vocal quintet, Home Free, won NBC’s “The Sing-Off,” an a cappella competition. WCCO (Channel 4 News) recently aired a story about Lommen Abdo’s new start-up client, FamDoo, which is a company that automates the allowance system and takes it into the digital age. Along with the simplicity of handling allowances with a Smartphone and your thumb, it is a platform that helps teach kids responsibility, financial literacy and how to address social issues like bullying and healthy eating. Phil Cole will co-present “Dickhoff— What Now?” at the 2014 Medical Malpractice Conference on March 6th, presented by the Minnesota Association for Justice, the HCBA and the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association. The Executive Women’s Council of the Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce will present “Minding the Gap,” addressing why even women at the top still face a compensation gap when compared to men, at Graves 601 on March 19th. Presenters are Stacey DeKalb, Lommen Abdo, and Judy Zimmer, SALO LLC. Lommen Abdo is a sponsor of the Executive Women’s Council. Sue Tish McMorris celebrated her 10th anniversary with Lommen Abdo in December 2013. She is the firm’s family law paralegal. Previously, Sue worked as a family law assistant for Robin & Thompson in Wayzata. Sue is passionate about her work in family law and enjoys the phone and in-person contact she has with family law clients. Sue enjoys accompanying Marc Johannsen to court hearings and trials to see the end result of months of work and getting to know the clients and their particular issues. Sue and her husband, Brian, celebrated 32 years of marriage in 2013 and traveled to Italy for the first time last October. They took a Rick Steve’s My Way Tour and traveled with a group of 28 others to Venice, Lake Como, Cinque Terre, Florence, Assisi and finished off their 16 day tour in Rome. The photo at right shows Sue and Brian with the owner of a Pizza Ristorante down the street from the Vatican City. The owner treated them to dessert – Limoncello – an Italian lemon liqueur, and then asked to take a photo with them! Sue enjoys volunteering when she is not working and is active in Temple Israel Sisterhood, currently as Co-Vice President of Community Service. Sue is also passionate about the homeless and especially homeless youth in our community. Sue carries granola bars and bananas with her and feeds the homeless on the Nicollet Mall on her way to the office. Sue’s other activities include bicycling, hiking, walking with the dogs, playing mah jongg, baking/cooking, traveling and spoiling her adult children, Jared (age 27 and employed as a web developer at Martin Williams Advertising) and Shelby (age 23 and employed as a sales coordinator with Anchor Plastics). Both children and two dogs are still living at home! Brian travels frequently for work (as National Sales Manager of Panasonic’s Industrial Division) and they have a lot of frequent flyer miles to utilize! Their next planned vacation is in April to Scottsdale, Arizona, where they met 34 years ago. We’ve been featuring videos about Lommen Abdo attorneys and our practice areas.
