Set in 1722 during the Qing Dynasty, sweeping
drama Empresses in the Palace is an epic tale of
love, betrayal and scandal told from inside the
Imperial Harem – the story of one emperor and his
countless women. In a world filled with treachery
and corruption, who will truly win the Emperor’s
heart and reign supreme?
At the beginning of Emperor Yong Zheng’s rule, his
mother – the Empress Dowager – holds a competition
for eligible maidens to be concubines for her son.
Among those selected to join the Imperial Harem are
the stunningly beautiful Zhen Huan and her two close
friends, Shen Mei-Zhuan and An Ling-Rong.
The innocent Zhen Huan is excited at the prospect of
a new life full of love and prosperity with the Emperor
and, at their first meeting, the Emperor is immediately
enamored with her. But it quickly becomes apparent
that Zhen Huan’s path to true love will be far from
simple as her arrival sparks the anger of the highest
ranking Imperial concubine, Consort Hua, a powerful
figure in the Imperial Harem owing to her politically
prominent brother, General Nian Geng-Yao.
And Consort Hua is just one of many fighting for the
Emperor’s affections. Also displeased with his newfound love is the First Empress who up until now has
always been regarded as a fair and just ruler.
However, having been brushed aside with the recent
turn of events, she is forced to show her true colors
by conspiring to remove Zhen Huan from the
Imperial Harem – permanently.
Amidst a war of bitter rivalries and fatal conspiracies,
if she is to survive life in the Imperial Harem, the once
naïve Zhen Huan must summon all of her strength
and learn how to protect herself, even from those she
once counted as her closest friends. Will she prevail
