• Ruh is a Turkish-Arabic word for soul. And it
will give the audience a chance to have a unique
listing experience which will take them into a
journey into the soul of the oriental world in a
contemporary approach.
• Ruh ist das türkisch/arabische Wort für „Seele“.
Dieses Projekt gibt dem Zuhörer die einzigartige
Gelegenheit, einer Reise in die Seele der arabischen Welt mit zeitgemäßem Zugang beizuwohnen.
• The band, founded in 2012 , is a project of
bringing the Sufi elements of the oriental world
into the jazz scene in Europe.
• Die Band wurde 2012 gegründet und verbindet
Elemente der Sufi-Musik mit Einflüssen der zeitgenössischen (Jazz-)Musik Europas.
• Ruh was started by Uygar Cagli – one of
Istanbul‘s fine musicians, composers and a graduate from the Jazz and Pop conservatories in Graz
and Linz, Orwa Saleh – a Syrian Oud player and
composer from Damascus studied at The Higher Institute of Music in Syria and the National
Conservatory of Lebanon and joined by Gerhard
Reiter – a well-known Austrian percussion player
and teacher at the Bruckner University in Linz .
• Ruh wurde von Uygar Cagli, einem Musiker
und Komponisten aus Istanbul (Abschlüsse an
den Jazz-Unis Graz und Linz) und Orwa Saleh,
einem syrischen Oud-Spieler und Komponisten
(Studien am Higher Institute of Music in Syrien
und dem Nationalkonservatorium im Libanon)
gegründet. Mit Gerhard Reiter, einem bekannten
österreichischen Percussionisten und Lehrer an
der Linzer Bruckneruni, formierte sich das Trio.
• The mixture of Arabic, Turkish and European
background of the musicians gives Ruh’s music
a multi-character identity, combining the soul of
the east with the jazz elements of the west.
• Die Mischung arabischer, türkischer und europäischer Elemente gibt der Musik eine vielschichtige Identität, in der die orientalische Seele mit
westlichen Jazzelementen verbunden wird.
• The idea of considering Ruh as concept more
than just a band has allowed the musician of Ruh
to introduce the composed original music of Ruh
in many different forms: as trio, quartet and even
to perform with an orchestra.
• Ruh ist mehr als Konzept, denn als Band-Projekt
zu verstehen, denn alle Kompositionen können
sowohl im Trio als auch als Quartett oder sogar
orchestral umgesetzt werden.
• Ruh music was played in many festivals and
stages in Austria such as the Kronefest 2013 (Linz ),
Percussion Festival 2013 (Freistadt), Superdrumming Festival 2013 (Gmunden).
• Ruh hat bereits viele Festivals und Konzerte in
Österreich gespielt, unter anderem das Kronefest
(Linz), Percussion Festival 2013 (Freistadt) oder
beim Superdrumming Festival 2013 (Gmunden).
